It was assumed that with this Loadout system, you wouldn’t be able to buy a Rocket or a Shotgun.
Yet we have the damn Boltshot.
343- The Boltshot is incredibly powerful for a Sidearm. Statistics and common sense should explain the abuse of this weapon. You cannot walk around a corner due to me and my Boltshot, a powerful weapon available from spawn.
Just saying - Great game and all, but this is a problem that I believe should be addressed.
I don’t consider it overpowered because of the fact that…
A) You’ve got to charge it up.
B) It doesn’t always kill the other person.
I’ve had times where the person is right in front of me and it only takes down their shields.
Personally, I think it’s fine since everybody can start out with it.
Plasma pistol is still the better sidearm… It’s not a one hit kill, but it can be a two shot kill. The overcharge can home in at pretty long ranges… many times farther than the boltshot’s charged shot. In standard mode, it’s still probably the best pistol. Plus it can disable vehicles. So… why even use a boltshot unless you intend to hide in a corner with camo?
It requires close range and if you missed you are open to get killed for a few seconds do to the cool down between charged shots.
On the other hand there is currently a glitch in the game that lets you fire the charge shot, then immediately reset the cool down AND fully reload it in one motion that literally lasts half a second.
The Boltshot is far too situational to be OP in its current state.
However, rephrase that to ‘Cloak and Boltshot in smaller gametypes’ and I can start to agree.
See, the actually one hit wonder range of the Boltshot is only roughly twice the maximum melee distance. Think about it, if you’ve used it you can actually probably see what I’m getting at.
It CAN headshot, but the headshot doesn’t award a medal when charged. The ability to headshot only very, very rarely allows you to one hit kill from beyond the range I mentioned before. This is because the spread of the individual shots in the little shotgun blast spread pretty wildly, so even with a headshot you wont hit them hard enough to kill past the roughly double melee length range.
The entire clip of the Boltshot can be fired into a player without breaking their shields. This weapon is like the Plasma pistol. Its individual shots are ridiculously weak.
Due to the super close range limitation of the weapon along with having to both charge it up AND deal with a wind down pause after a charged shot the weapon really can’t be said to be OP. Most sight lanes in Halo 4 are huge. The DMR can attack accurately from a huge distance, even firing from the hip.
Close Range weapons are only useful in small engagement gametypes. Outside of gametypes like Regicide/Oddball/KOTH it is less useful as maps are wider and areas to pitch a tent are either less common or easily avoided. You’ll rarely have to deal with it in larger game modes unless a player does what I do, uses it purely for surprise purposes. I have a DMR/PP loadout and a DMR/Boltshot loadout because sometimes switching for the more kill oriented secondary can allow me to swap weapons and snag a cleaner close range kill. The DMR is fine close up, but if I can kill without trading many shots I’d like to.
The one map the Boltshot is literally BS on is Haven. But that makes sense. Of course the best close range loadout weapon dominates on a tiny map.
You have to be pointblank AND time it perfectly, just because you get killed by it a few times by a person who’s good with it doesn’t mean its overpowered.
That’s like saying that the Carbine is too powerful because it’s practically a sniper rifle.
I love the game, I’m okay with the Boltshot but only when using Promethean vision to get the timing right and even at that, half the time I’m not close enough to kill.
Point is, I highly disagree on this because half the time, the bolt shot misses or its target only looses their shields. Kills with a boltshot show skill.
> Boltshot Op… why not say the thruster pack is op?

The boltshot is insanely powerful and I consider it overpowered compared to the alternatives you can pick from.
It’s too easy to camp with and get easy kills, it’s also very easy to glitch with so you have an instant reload. I’m not sure how a lot of you guys are missing with it, on maps like Adrift it’s all you need.
Yes, let’s talk about this one in 343 more other threads. While we’re at it, why are we even posting in threads. Let’s just make our own thread for every post.
