First of all, I’d like to say that I love this idea, even if we don’t really have all the details right now.
So, we know those 5-missions per week are on the disc when we buy it.
And it’s been confirmed that each new part of this story will simply be unlocked every week, and not with those spartan points or anything else.
So, that means one important thing : modders will be able to access it, and will probably leak it, right? Isn’t it sad? Obviously, I don’t know every detail, but I’m already “scared” about that. You might just tell me to avoid the leaks, but it’s kind of hard these days.
And if it’s time-restricted, can’t we just change the date on our console ? Probably.
Unless we have to be connected to internet, and those missions would get unlocked with a patch every week, but then it brings another problem : people who don’t have their console connected to internet. I don’t know how many people does that concern, but they wouldn’t be able to access those missions, right?
I’d just like to know what people think about these issues, even if we don’t know the specifics.
> What if mission packs were downloaded from marketplace?
The article did seem to imply that, but it seems more likely that it stuff on the disc.
OP: If the missions are on disc, then yes, hackers will be able to find and unlock it and leak the full story. -Yoink- happens, not much you can do other than ignore them and enjoy the experience.
> First of all, I doubt a Hacker can do that let alone a modder. Also I’m pretty sure it’s kind of like DLC/Updates.
Hackers were able to unlock the entire armory for Halo Reach and download Halo Reach and ODST off the marketplace early. Hackers we also able to hack the Reach beta to get early looks at various armor pieces and Elite models. Hackers were able to hack the Mass Effect 3 Demo and found several main entries from the Codex.
Who cares what other people do. It’s not going to effect your experience with “Spartan Ops” (dear lord, change the name), just don’t click on any spoilers.
> What if mission packs were downloaded from marketplace?
But they ARE on the dics, it’s official. Unless GameInformer really made a mistake, but I seriously doubt that. An alternative would be to unlock them (I do say “unlock”, not download) through the marketplace, but like I said, it would bring another problem, this time for the people who don’t have internet through their box.
Like Hotrod192, it wouldn’t be fun to have to avoid some places on internet because of that. I know, it may not be a big deal, but still…
I think you’ll need to be connected to the internet (it would make sense). However the problem with this is that internet is readily available everywhere, another problem would be the download sizes…
Most likely, precautions will be taken to ensure missions and story remain hidden until their respective releases and not many hackers can access information on the disc that easily let alone modders.

Actually, I might have used the wrong word, yes.
“Hackers” might be more accurate.
But if it’s only locked on the disc, some people will indeed get it, though.
If hackers want to hack, then let them do so, it wont affect me, and it wont affect you, so to be honest I don’t care what they do with their copy of the game.
Besides, it happened with the Reach beta, and it happened with Reach, so it will probably happen with Halo 4 too.

I don’t think you get what I mean.
Reach beta : it isn’t about story spoilers.
Reach : the leaks happened a few weeks before. It was easy to avoid them.
But these spartans Ops missions, and this story, are supposed to be unlocked throughout months. Avoiding Halo forums for months, after the launch, only to avoid spoilers, is pretty ridiculous.
My concern is that it goes from a free DLC to a paid one, if it is a DLC. Oh and griefers and AFKs I’m sure will manage to ruin any fun to be had if your playing with randoms rather than friends. All that said I’m still interested in seeing how it plays out.
