> H2 Jackal snipers are overrated. They were often in one place, very linear. Easy headshots, there wasn’t much pressure when dealing with them.
>
> The Jackal snipers in Halo 4 can be seen spread out or in a position where you’re screwed or doomed to respawn in. And you have a bunch of Elites with concussion rifles or fuel rod guns assisting them.
Clearly you haven’t played Halo 2 Legendary in quite a while. Go load up the level Outskirts and have fun in the alleys…
Yeah, they spawn as the same location every time (just like Spartan Ops), but the main things are their accuracy and reactions.
If you mess up in the slightest, you’re dead.
If you miss, you’re dead.
If you wait longer than half a second, you’re dead.
If you poke out, you’re dead.
If you’re distracted, you’re dead.
If you didn’t know, you’re dead.
With Halo 4’s, they miss the first shot nearly every time. And when they hit you, it gets rid of your shields. It takes two shots to kill you, and they’re easy to kill. They’re reaction time is much slower.
And yes, the Halo 4 Jackal Snipers have assist, but Halo 2 Jackal Snipers never needed assists, but when they did have it…
Legendary SpOps is easier than heroic in any of the games. Thanks to the infinite respawns and no loss of progress upon death it’s more in line with the normal difficulty.

It’s only been a month since I last played Halo 2 on Legendary.
all 50 episodes Legendary for RIADER Helmet and XP
> > This is a different topic, but the weapon de-spawning -especially in Spartan Ops and Campaign at higher difficulties… It makes me really sad that 343 would rather have a bit better lighting or graphic fidelity(though the 360 is very much showing its age now -especially with Halo 4) than probably more enjoyable(and variation in) gameplay with a longer weapon and enemy de-spawner timer. I don’t find it AS much a problem in multiplayer because that is more fast paced and such, but it still hurs me… Every other Halo has had quite long(from what I remember) weapon and body de-spawner, but 4’s hurts me every time I try to go back to my dead body in legendary SpOps and 20 secs after I died last, everything’s already gone.
>
> <mark>The reason weapons despawn so quickly is because of Ordnance.</mark> With so many power weapons being on the map, 343i decided to have weapons quickly despawn so it wouldn’t be a power weapon Yoink-fest. This, of course, can go negative at times, in some gametypes, Spartan Ops definitely being one of them.

> OT: Spartan Ops Legendary Solo isn’t hard overall. Just use the DMR, Plasma Pistol, Autosentry, and Ammo. And take your time.

> Oh, and be thankful the Legendary Snipers don’t act like Halo 2’s. Be very thankful.
Just quoting to tell you your wrong. weapons, bodies, and exploded vehicles despawn so fast to prevent frame rate lag. The graphics of halo 4 push the limits of the console already as is. Heck looking into the sky on exile causes some frame rate lag. There was official word on this awhile ago. It has nothing to do with power weapon spam. If that was the issue dominion would not exist.
> all 50 episodes Legendary for RIADER Helmet and XP
Actually it’s just the first 5 episodes (25 chapters).
DMR
Plasma Pistol
Frags
Regen Field
AA efficiency
Ammo
Problem solved.

Thanks. I am corrected.
Spartan Ops is fun co-op, but it’s a grind solo.
They messed up.
I think it would have done a lot better as a co-op campaign with the checkpoints and respawns system we’ve always hand, along with skulls available for use, and scaling to the number of players. (If scaling is impossible with this game’s engine and code, then roughly 2x the enemies in Campaign)
I have enjoyed the SO missions solo legendary.
My only issue is that , on occassion the respawning makes it impossible to progress.
You are thrown back into the middle of carnage & you just end up constantly dying &
re-spawning in the same place in a rinse/repeat cycle you cannot break.
Other than that & the fact that the Wraiths on SO campaigns are just deadly accurate
with the main fire & even a slight breeze from the fire seems to result in instant death, it is all good.
I snipe the hell out of the missions though wherever possible. DMR & Lightrifle with an auto turret for some added firepower & distraction where needed.
Works pretty well. Maximising the availablity of weapons like FRC & Rocket Launchers when avaialable is also key. Make them count because invariably you can’t find them again when you die!
I don’t think it would be that hard in Spartan Ops, Legendary solo in the campaign was easy.
The only problem I see in Spartan Ops would basically be the enemies not really scaling themselves to how many players are actually playing and the weapons the enemy have, like Fuel Rod Elites and Grunts.
Also on the point of infinite lives, its pretty much like the Campaign. It’d be more challengine if players could enable skulls like Iron.
Also, who uses a plasma pistol for enemies now? Give me a Precision Rifle and an Automatic one and watch me do work. Plasma Pistol are really good at just dealing with vehicles, IMO your just better off having another gun, not a small arm.
Spartan Ops Solo Legendary can be unreasonable. Phantoms and their respective gunners are the most aggravating on Legendary.

Reach Wraiths were worse.
Same here, except I use the plasma pistol when facing Elites. Light Rifle works well on Elites but they rush you and it’s slower than the DMR.
I never bother with power weapons except when dealing with Hunters (even then, the sword does the job better).
> I don’t think it would be that hard in Spartan Ops, Legendary solo in the campaign was easy.
You’re comparing two different, distinct game modes.
> Also, who uses a plasma pistol for enemies now? Give me a Precision Rifle and an Automatic one and watch me do work. Plasma Pistol are really good at just dealing with vehicles, IMO your just better off having another gun, not a small arm.
Firepower might come in handy in MP But in Spartan Ops, it’s really situational. Jetpack is practically worthless without AA Efficiency, Regeneration Field works best with Shielding, etc.
I use jetpack to bounce to the highest place I can get, but the rest of the load-out (DMR, Plasma Pistol, and Ammo) are the same as everyone else.
If I have a “crowd-control” weapon (Rockets, FRG) I will spam that into the crowd, or target the Hunters, then I will find a bit of cover and start popping Snipers, Grunts/Crawlers, etc. I find a bunch of needlers as deadly to me as some of the power weapons, so I clear all of the small stuff out first.
Then I go after the Elites/Knights one-by-one with noob combo. If they will not separate, then I will go with Plasma Pistol, plus grenades. Definitely get one, and might get two. Just know that you are going to die a LOT regardless.
Some of the later missions use tanks/Mantis and/or Marines on Warthogs, so if you haven’t played those yet, you might want try those. I found going back and forth on Sniper Alley annoying, but the later maps were pretty good.
Oh, last thought - I only play 2-3 chapters on a given day, and once I hit the weekly challenge, I stop. There are limits to how much frustration I can take. I have the last two chapters of Episode 10 to complete, and I will have done every chapter Co-op and Solo.
> Spartan Ops is a joke… you can respawn infinitely, kill one enemy everytime you die and you will still eventually get through it, please just stop…
^yup same goes for people whining Borderlands 1/2 were too hard solo lol. Go play a game like Battletoads for the NES then talk about a challenging game, I remember when games actually were hard.
I played the first 3 and a half episodes solo on Legendary then just gave up.
I get what your saying. It took me like an hour to do landgrab solo. BTW, I think I fallow you on twitter
I get what the OP is saying. It seems every grunt and elite graduates from Covenant Academy and are given their standard issued fuel rods. If you’re at mid-range against two or more enemies with fuel rods, if they want you dead, then you’re dead. Sometimes it feels like their shots fly faster than my hitscan bullets <end exaggeration>.
When I play Halo, I don’t want to feel constantly hunkered down. I’m a Super Soldier for cryin’ out loud. I want to mess stuff up. Spawn locations are terrible as someone said. It’s just an endless cycle of dying and respwaning for an intense and frustrating 10 minutes.
When people say Spartan Ops is hard, they are not talking about how hard it is to complete. We are all aware of the infinite lives and respwan. Why people keep responding with that answer, I’ll never know.
> So I recently decided to play through all of Spartan Ops (Ep 1-10) on Legendary. I would like to play them in co-op seeing as currently there is no personal stat for completing them on solo or co-op, and it would me it more fun and less grinding. But Alas, no one on my friends list plays Halo 4 anymore(don’t get me wrong -I love it!), and it’s hard enough trying to play co-op online because my net connection is so bad (1.5Mb/s Down and .27Mb/s Up) that it’s quite slow and laggy. And I don’t really have anyone here locally -LAN or split screen to help and play along with this.
>
> So anyways, back to my main concern at hand. I have not gotten far on Solo Legendary on SpOps, but many of the encounters have either too quick(frustratingly so) one shot Beam Rifle Kig-Yar snipers, sneaky Binary Rifle Crawlers, rush happy Knights, and blasted trigger happy Sangheili and Unggoy with unlimited ammo in their Fuel Rod Cannon’s!!
>
> It was fun and good at first but it quickly turned sour within the first two Episodes… The unlimited respawns are nice obviously, but it’s still quite hard when the snipers sopt me so quickly and the fuel rod happy aliens charge and blast me all to Halo again…!
> And I know 343 said that SpOps is mainly supposed to be a co-op thing, but that’s not as easy for me… They also said though that if I wanted to play through solo, it would accommodate that two; well it’s not bad on Normal or even Heroic solo, but Legendary solo with OP aliens like those -it got me angry pretty quickly -and there is not much in Halo 4 that makes me angry.
>
> It just makes me sad that it’s going to be more grinding than fun difficulty challenge…
>
> 343i, if you would even consider some sort of tiny nerf to those aliens on solo legendary, it would make me a bit happy! I’m sure it could be fit into the TU!
>
> --But yes, I understand how and why those changes would probably be bad overall…
>
> So how’s Spartan Ops for everyone else? Solo? Co-op? Are the encounters reasonable?
I’m on eastern time and am on xbox between 8pm to midnight my time. Meaning I can volenteer to help (would be glad to help out). if you are on same time as i am just send a game request. always happy to do some sparten ops, (helps perfect skill with different weapons and tactics for when I do multiplayer). gamertag is same as here.
343 set it from heroic to legendary since the levels felt too quick and easy. Personally, I think 343 did a good job on it. No perfect, but good with great potential.
