Spartan Tolerance

This is a random question, but are Spartans more resistant to the effects of alcohol than a normal human?

Maybe? But have they ever tryed alcohol? To bulid a resistance they would need to drink every now and again so they could get used to it.

Imagine Chief after a few drinks!

considering their muscular strength and metabolism, i’d say they’d need to pull a Captain America and drink an entire keg of alcohol in order to feel even a bit tipsy.

either way, where and when would Spartans get the time and allowance to do this while on-duty?

The Spartan-IVs get downtime. But it was really just a question I was curious about.

We know for a fact they drink alcohol. Doing a personal project of mine I was playing through SpOps again, and after Episode 3[?] Palmer says she’ll buy a round of drinks for Crimson back on Infinity.

How much it effects them, I don’t know.

Speaking of which, the Forerunners drank alcohol, and it was even prized. But with their armor keeping them constantly healthy, I can’t imagine how strong that San 'Shyuum wine was that the Confirmer gave to the Didact.

Imagine a drunk Spartan. That would be hilarious and scary.

Exactly! This is actually for a fan-fic that I’m writing. I’m at a scene where the Spartan-IVs are at the bar for some down time. I wasn’t sure if Spartans have an enhanced tolerance of alcohol.

Not a Spartan 4 because I’m pretty sure the augmentation they get isn’t as severe because of their age.

Also don’t think the augmentations have a lot to do with the livers ability to process poisons or how the stomach absorbs alcohol but maybe.

I imagine a Spartan II would have a hard time getting drunk because they’re gigantic.

Naomi drinks beer in Kilo-5, I’m pretty sure I recall her having quite a few randomly throughout the trilogy in the downtime (slipspace jumps and stuff.)

Besides that when she’s with Vaz at the bar on Venezia, they have a convesation which goes roughly

Vaz: “Are you OK”
Naomi: “I’m not drunk, if that’s what you mean.”

So yeah, they can drink, given the time and the right situation, and I’d imagine that because she specifically says that she isn’t drunk, that she has been drunk before, or at least can get drunk given more alcohol.

It’s not like Spartans (even IIs) have NO downtime, it’s that they just don’t like to be idle, they’re much more comfortable being active. Either way, they are forced to have downtime by the laws of nature. They usually try to occupy that time productively so I can’t see them going out drinking during their down time, but I’m sure most of them that survived into their 40s have drank at least a few times.

EDIT: Then again, Naomi was also adapting to a situation completely different than most Spartans, being the only fully functioning Spartan on the crew (can’t really count Osman) and she’s also doing complex spec ops that includes infiltrating a insurrectionist cell. I really can’t imagine John, Kelly, Linda and Fred going to the bar, or drinking during a slipspace jump.

Kelly would be… scary.

Remember in Spartan Ops after you kill Parg Vol when Palmer says over the comms (paraphrasing here) “when you return to the Infinity, first round is on me”?

The Spartan IIs & IIIs? I doubt they ever drank. At least not during the Human / Covenant War … those who survived probably tried a taste. I’m sure their tolerance is probably what you’d expect with people of their height & weight, although with some people, regardless of size and metabolism, it can have extremely adverse effects on brain chemistry, especially regarding the hypothalamus and proper function of neurotransmitters … imagine Max Payne as a Spartan.

You should totally have a completely alcoholic fireteam of Spartans in your Fan-Fic … Fireteam Firewater … imagine the jams they’d get into! Arrested for driving a Warthog wearing only a helmet.

Haha, now there’s an idea.

I would be the first to volunteer to join Fireteam Firewater…

Spartan II’s have extreme tolerance of alcohol and other narcotics except a few. Even Spartan 1.1s, the children of Spartan I’s, had extreme tolerance.

Spartan III’s augmentations were based off the II’s, and the IV’s off both, so its logical to assume that Spartan IV’s are also extremely tolerant of alcohol.

I would say it’s safe to assume that their tolerance would be high enough to where so much alcohol is ingested that it shuts down their liver and kidneys.
