Spartan Shield (Similar to Jackal Shield)

I was thinking about how the bubble shield is gone (too bad; enjoyed it in Halo 3- wasn’t used enough in Reach), and that cursed Armor Lock is gone (hence, the reason bubble shield/ “medic” wasn’t used much, if at all). I was curious if an Armor Ability could take their place that was similar to the Jackal’s shield, a ‘borrowed tech’, of sorts. It could be placed on the Spartan’s left forearm, once activated it would fan out to give an extra, tough, although temporary, protection to the front of the person using it. (This might behave a little similar to MW2’s ‘riot shield’).

It’s lifespan could be timed (and recharged), it could take damage, and it could limit the mobility and/or field of fire of the user (and even limit the user’s weapon to that of a pistol, perhaps (when the shield is in use)). It could glow the color of the user’s armor (personal for ffa, or team color) and grow more dim when weakened. An additional trade-off, (beyond those aforementioned) is that you are not only a glowing target in the distance, it could be that when you/it is taking fire the energy splatter across it could hinder your view even more.

Picture two Spartans kneeling with energy shields activated, defending their sniper who is using them as an almost transparent wall for cover while dealing long distance death. That glowing target might not last for long up on that hill, not if a well placed rpg round finds them. Or, you and your teammate are defending a flag or hill, or even a choke point or entrance to a base. They’ve traded speed, mobility, and maybe their weapon of choice for their defense.

Well, thank you for your time and attention, and maybe even your consideration.

This has long been a fan request, moreso for campaign but if implemented correctly to multiplayer or spartan ops would be a welcomed addition.

Personally i think the spartan shield would have to be depleted from 1 grenade and force you to a fixed position in multiplayer where campaign or ops you could move with it.

The fixed position helps stop the issue the riot shield highlighted but allows the shield to create cover where there is none.

Also weapon fire would have to rapidly deplete the shield too.

The Spartan Shield is a holdable energy barrier that will block incoming projectiles. The Spartan Shield requires two hands to hold so no weapons or grenades can be used when deployed. The user has reduced movement and turn speed when the Spartan Shield is deployed. Meleeing with the Spartan Shield will knock the target back a short distance but cause no damage. The Spartan Shield has a moderate duration with moderate health. Crouching with the Spartan Shield will completely shield you from the front but then you cannot move, only turn 90 degrees left, right or up.

I agree. I’d like the shield’s depletion to be similar to (or greater than) Reach’s ‘medic’ bubble shield. I’d like some movement, though, even if it’s only when crouched). And, if you’re going to use a weapon, you had better have put your sidearm in hand before activating it, or you’d be stuck wielding the shield bracing your left arm with that right hand.

Thanks for your comments.

So, a Deployable Cover AA? That would require massive amounts of nerfing from its iteration as equipment in H3, and I would personally hate to encounter it in a 4v4 slayer match (maybe it’s more fit for BTB), but it could produce some interesting results

i would personally prefer some type of overshield AA than that but great idea

if they were to put a sheild in the game think about how it would be used.

This has been long asked for since halo 2. However i agree, this would be an amazing addition to the game.

No more bubble shield… no more armor lock (thanks 343!)… I’ve been ‘encountering’ armor lock for years now (even in 4v4 slayer). If they’re going to have something to fill the bubble shield/ armor lock void, I’d rather encounter something like what I’ve described. Even though the grenades would ‘bounce’ of the shield before detonation (as it would against a jackal), a well placed (frag, sticky, or one of those yet-to-be-seen (forerunner?) nade would sputter 'em out enough to take out the guy behind it with that second nade and some bursts of fire. Heck, you could throw your nade behind them to bounce off a wall and kill 'em in some circumstances. Sounds much better than watching a guy glowing with his fist on the floor, able to withstand a frigate crash-landing on him for the next grueling seven seconds.
I don’t expect everyone to like the idea, though. Just came up with an attractive ‘filler’ (imo), beyond the generic shield boost we’ve gotten used to since halo ce.

I’d like to be able to shoot with something. The jackals were able to be irritating while holding their shields.
