Spartan Rank Cap

Does 343 have any plans to address the ridiculous Rank Cap in multiplayer???

really no reason at all to have done the exp system if your gonna cap at 130, have nothing to use exp towards or credits, no armor/emblems, skins, etc at all to work towards to use that exp at the end of the game, commendations and challenges.

My opinion this was a fail

Just think of everything you do now as working towards commendations. And when you’ve done those, well then, just play for fun I guess.

no point doing the challenges anymore either then.

it does feel somewhat short sighted.

Have you maxed out all of your commendations and actually gotten every skin/armour piece/emblem?

Just for others to know, it’s silly to work your commendations just for the XP if your goal is to hit SR130. Playing S.OPS will net you over 7KXP per match that lasts at least 10min. In 2 runs of S.OPS, that’s about 20min, you can earn more XP than if you maxed out your Gravity Hammer Kills commendation, which you can do only once but do so in about an hour of Grifball.

I really think they should introduce vanity/prestige/whatever you want to call them ranks past level 30. Just something so that that exp goes SOMEWHERE. It would be nice to have a global progression system past 130, rather than simply picking off commendations. Something that shows to others regardless whether or not you choose to wear the armor for it.

I sure hope so. 130 really feels like a brick wall.

Perhaps a more visible checklist of commendation masterys on the player card?
You can’t wear every emblem at once but our player cards can display our commendation milestones more overtly.

However displaying your XP meter showing how much you play but not how much overall investment you’ve put into the game, what use does that serve? If it’s about the journey, what value does extending the cap give?

Yes we can earn more skins for our weapons and armour pieces but what value does time-grinding show? How much game experience are you displaying by having the rewards for simply putting in the time?
If I can see that you’ve mastered every weapon, that shows much more dedication to the game than seeing the skin that shows you’ve played a lot.
If I can see you’ve mastered every gametype commendation, that shows much, much more dedication to the game than seeing a skin that shows me you’ve played a lot (to which you can play all Snipers and SWAT and I won’t care too much but I will be happy for you that you do enjoy those limited playlists).

So that is why I am asking, what’s the point of extending a journey if it’s just all repetitive in the first place?

Reaches ranks made it feel like you were building to something for a very long time. That, paired with a 1-50 or Arena system really did a great job at keeping me interested. I only ever made gold playing solo in arena, but it sure felt like a challenge and was it’s own reward. Why all of these things are missing is beyond me.

Without all that it just has no greater pull than stat padding or going in with friends and destroy a bunch of disillusioned players. I guess there’s just too much missing…

One last thing; The commendation system is incredibly bland and doesn’t appeal to me at all. I feel like Reach’s model was significantly more appealing visually and in practicality. I haven’t checked my commendations in months, because they just bore me. Just one less thing to hold interest.

I believe 343 has not talked about this yet.

Why can’t there be both? A ranking system based on personal achievements and one based on global experience are by no means mutually exclusive. Skill-based ranking systems are wonderful. I’d absolutely love to have one in the game. However, I’d also like a universal progression system that shows, essentially, how much Halo I have played.
It is a proven fact that people like progression, especially in videogames; we like things to work towards, even if the reward is nothing but prestige. It gives a sense of accomplishment. Further experience ranks would help loads in giving that sense of accomplishment. As it stands now, if I play a Dominion game and go crazy in the Wraith to help my team to victory, at the end of the game, I feel like “Well, that didn’t really mean anything”. I’ve mastered Dominion. I’ve mastered splatter kills. Sure, it’s fun getting tons of kills, but what’s so wrong with having a system where your play is always recognized and rewarded in some form, regardless of how you play?

Just my opinion, but I think they can keep us SR130s interested with challenge-content that is more rewarding than just XP. I mean, I am reluctant to help friends with challenges because I have no use for them (ex. Campaign Challenges for 40,000 total XP in a single run). Look at Facebook gaming, for example. Car Town and Mafia Wars are perfect examples. Each game has new content weekly that allows for the release of new content (Car Town: Cars; Mafia Wars: Loot). I’d say they could use the Waypoint challenges in this way. A Weekly Waypoint challenge that can give a special weapon skin or armor skin that is exclusive to that single Waypoint challenge. It also gives a small amount of XP so that way people don’t complain. It also gives the Weapon Design department something to do now that they specializations are finished being made, and many of us are waiting for new content. And personally I’m a big fan of weapon skins.

For Example (don’t hate; I’m not original):
NOBLE Challenge
Earn 250 headshots with a Precision Loadout Weapon
Reward: 2500 XP, DMR “NBL” Weapon Skin

no

Add a suit reboot maybe I don’t know.

I really like this idea (: they could use some skins that are designed by the Community (Look at Youtube there are Many videos about this) and put them in as a reward…

I like the idea of challenge rewards. It’s sad that when I was leveling I was psyched to see what the challenges were, how much they were worth, and what playlist to get them in. Now it’s just something useless that pops up on my screen.

I will be hitting the “brick wall” cap sometime in the next week. So I guess after that there is really NO reason for me to keep playing. I really don’t understand what the people at 343 were thinking when they came up with the ranking system as it is. I would maybe understand if the cap was at a level that was nearly unattainable, but not something that can be so easily achieved, so soon after the games release. Add to that the fact that when you do reach SR130 all you get for it is a stupid emblem and background!!! It’s like playing through PORTAL, only to find out the cake was a lie!!! It’s not an impossible fix: raise the cap with the next map pack, come up with some cool armor for the SR130 club, and/or maybe come up with some cool exclusive challenges, so that there is a reason to keep playing and earning XP. If not, I guess it will just free up time for me to start playing DESTINY. =)

my post wasn’t a matter of stopping playing because of hitting 130, it was that after 130 exp is absolutely useless, I still work towards commendations enjoy playing but it is completely useless, ranking could have been done with commendation unlocks, or kills, why post exp when you can rank to it in no time whatsoever.

Armor skins, wep skins, armor animations like the storm and birthday party from reach, or spending exp on buying concept art or something dunno but the whole exp system is absolutely useless

Whatever happened to playing for fun…

I still play for fun but I think its ridiculous to include exp when its absolutely useless
