Kind of an off question but do Spartans get paid? They should right? I mean, by today’s standards Chief’s pay grade would be an E-9. It used to be thought that Spartans were lifetime soldiers but then Maria retired and started a family so, I’m assuming she got paid for her 30 years of service, right? I don’t seem to recall any Spartan mentioning being paid, though I don’t see why they would.
Even if they did, they’re still those children that were abducted, unless they retired from the Spartan program I don’t see them relying on a pay I’d just assume the UNSC/ONI would provide them with the needs they desire.
I imagine that the Spartan IIs and IIIs aren’t paid as their entire lives are dedicated to fighting. Although it wouldn’t surprise me if Maria-062 was given a massive amount of compensation and something akin to a pension.
The Spartan IVs must be paid, this is their job rather than their lives.
Spartan-II’s are lifetime soliders, all expenses are covered. They don’t recieve pay, nor would they have any use for it; I mean, has Chief ever even been into a bar? As for Maria, did she mean retiring from work, or from the military? Because between the excellent education she received while training and her literally superhuman physique, she could easily land a job in the Outer Colonies, even without official qualifications.
They must be getting paid, all right. But I don’t think I can count that high.
They technically hold a rank in the Navy so I would assume finance processes them just like any other member of the military, but the money probably goes into a Swiss bank account, with ONI as the benefactor…

They would be paid, they might not spend it on much, but with rank comes pay grade. Osman was mustered out of the Spartan II’s and was retained by the Navy. They’d’ve been entitled to base pay plus any special duty, hazardous duty, and hostile fire pay. I don’t think the II’s and III’s are overly concerned with their pay.
That being said, what about the Spartan IV’s? They are all recruited from the different branches and obviously held pay grades before becoming Spartans. The Spartan Branch also doesn’t have any formalized rank structure. Everyone is Spartan (Name). They obviously do have a command hierarchy with Spartan Palmer commanding all Spartans aboard the UNSC Infinity. Do all Spartans now receive the same base pay regardless of their previous rank?
