Theater mode: We can’t use it for S.Ops - why? How does that make sense, Design-wise there is NO good reason to do this. Just fix this please.
Lack of penalty: Why does it completely not matter that we die? For a immersive and ‘cannon mulitplayer mission experience’ S.Ops, the fact that we can die over and over w/ no life limit or check-point restart just sours the game. Firefight felt more urgent and thus immersive than S.Ops.
A. I’m just saying, either make it like campaign where you have to have safe/living team mates to respawn.
B. Or limited lives like FF, I don’t care if the lives are pooled or not w/ team mates - and maybe you can even add lives based off the same system as getting ordinance drops.
(3.) This is more of a general complaint not something I expect to be fixed at any point. But I figured S.Ops would be like a cross between FF and “Reach’s” Campaign where it stars me/my team. But no - these prerendered custcenes that star another Spartan team that I personally couldn’t care less about. I get the challenges involved when your vision is obviously this streamlined set-in place story that involve characters and such you don’t have modeled in-game (Halsey for example) - but I feel that collectively is a bad design choice more than anything. What I’m saying is S.Ops (Majestic Team aside) is cool for it’s cutscenes, THATS IT… I’d rather play campaign if not just reg multiplayer (or FF if it were there).
What do you guys think? I don’t expect anyone to agree w/ me but if you do I’d appreciate it.
I play solo so I like the fact of infinite lives, but i do think that if the skulls came into play, namely iron, it would give that. Otherwise the weapons dissapearing really and the spawn points can use work because of my deaths come from spawning in front 6 rocket carring grunts. As for MP/COOP i dont play those.
I love spartan ops. But i too have a few gripes or recommendations that would improve it.
Lack of score has really crippled the re-playability. Without scoring there is no real reason to go back and beat a friends high score.
Infinity lives, this really takes a sense of accomplishment away from the overall experience. In halo 3 odst and reach, firefight gave you’re group a limited amount of lives. This made you extra careful on legendary, and made for more intense game play. Having custom firefight set ups and only so many lives were some of my best memories of Reach, with a social non competitive group of friends. I miss this now.
The story that goes along with it, is not what i had expected. I had assumed that it would be a story in engine as with Reach. Where you and you’re friends Spartans are rendered in the cutscene the same way noble 6 was in Reach. This would have been more engaging seeing your own kitted out spartan 4 talking to Sarah Palmer, Lasky etc, rather than pre made CGI cutscenes focusing on another squad of Spartans working parallel with you’re squad… That just doesn’t make sense to me. It worked in reach, it should have been used here.

Yes yes- this is all what I mean.
1-2. I didn’t even think about scoring but I agree, again a random downgrade from FF. The idea of S.Ops is better than just FF, but the way it’s set-up in many ways is just… ugh.
Again that’s EXACTLY what I figured. You literally took the words all out of my mouth on this one.
Reach had a massive amount of custom options for firefight. You could change how the AI behaved, what you would fight, did you want to defend generators etc…
I feel when you do Spartan Ops local/solo, there should be an option to customize these properties in Halo 4. That way you can determine the amount of lives, skull settings, wave traits etc. Granted the way Spartan Ops is set up, this might not be possible. But it would further extend the life and fun of Spartan Ops overall.
I also would like the introduction of lives in spartan ops, just like odst’s firefight. It is boring when death has absolutely no penalty, all I do is constantly run into the fray and respawn 4 seconds later.
