I have to say that if 343 did something right they did right with Spartan Ops. At first I was hesitate for this but after I had beaten the main campaign and started playing the missions I can get the feel of being my own character like back in Halo Reach. The missions are short, to the point, and fun. In addition to this, 343 has just released a trailer for Spartan Ops mission set 4 that looks even more promising. What are your thoughts of this and what would you rate this Duel campaign?
I feel they’re way too repetitive and not all that good, But hey thats just me if you like it thats cool
I certainly hope it’s not the future of campaigns.
It’s Firefight but with objectives and a very loose and largely uninteresting “story” to tie missions together. The missions are boring and too short. I play through an episode and then I’m done playing that episode, short of going braindead in Spartan Ops matchmaking so I can inch closer to unlocking a new Specialization that is only good for War Games.
Maybe if 343i had made a way for fans to design and customize their own Spartan Ops missions it would be cool. Like if you made a map (need a better Forge for the best results, but that’s an entirely different topic) and could set enemy spawns, traits, objectives, etc. At least it wouldn’t be so repetitive and dull.
I can see your point but if you have seen the trailers for the next set for Spartan Ops you might have a different idea about it. They are actually bringing some story into it to make it more meaningful.
No offense but at this stage Im not too keen on paying for my campaign 3 times.
- Paying the £40 entrance fee- Paying for the Seasonal content- Paying for xbox live
wait…Why do you have to pay for Spartan Ops 3 times? Maybe Im missing something…O.o
Thats a great idea for forging spartan ops missions Kalirak but it would get complicated and 343 probably wants to keep it for themselves to expand on their own side campaign.
Maybe this isn’t the place to pitch this, but it seems appropriate enough. I was chatting with some friends the other day and BSing about SpOps, and I was wondering how they are going to manage them after Episode 5. If anyone knows let me know, cuz I’m still curious on that front, maybe they’ll be DLC in the future or maybe they won’t happen at all, who knows. Anywho, I was spitballing this (imo) rad idea of them using the various seasons of Spartan Ops as a way to effectively bridge the gap between Halo 4 and 5. As a way to, in real time, concurrent with the Halo timeline, bring us to the release of Halo 5. I think that would be awesome, and maybe a little difficult, but it would be a groundbreaking kind of thing to be able to seamlessly connect a series of games together, without leaving anything in between to have fans wonder about, and better yet, it would keep players interested, and keep them playing the game far longer than they might have otherwise.
Just a spitball kind of thing.
I love the idea of it, but the gameplay is a little repetitive and the missions are very generic. I think it’ll get better as it goes on.
I was very unimpressed at the start. The campaign was so professionally made and, dare I say, perfect, that Spartan Ops just felt lackluster and messy by comparison. The story wasn’t dragging me in either.
Episode 3 changed things though. Halsey’s involved, which immediately got my attention, given her gravitas in the series. The missions involving Ragnarok (especially the Mantis vs. Fleet bit) were awesome. I even liked that we were hunting a specific guy with a name. Next episode looks good so far, so I’m getting into it. Might even bump up the difficulty.

Same here. It’s nice that you like it, but seriously, fire fight needs to make a return. Spartan Ops is nothing but an experience grind. There’s no way to change options or give it variety like one could with fire fight. It’s a poor replacement.
It should be the future of MM, pick the map game type first that you want to play on then go into match making and get matched up with other players who also want to play on that map and game type. This is one feature I love on spec ops. Not having to vote on maps that you may not like to play on, those who quit cause the map they wanted wasn’t picked.
The concept of releasing new episodes is very genuine, and gives a little more vigor to keep playing the game. But the fact that all the missions are practically on the same maps gets continuously old. Plus, it never feels like the missions you play are very strongly tied together to the CG clips that comes with the episodes.
It has to coupled with Fire Fight if attached to a Halo FPS. Grinding in a Mini campaign with characters and dialogue bordering on annoying is tedious. I just look forward to Monday and by Thursday I’m pretty bored or annoyed from the tedium or the players and their team killing and griefing.
I would say they should consider a separate game altogether that hinges on a Massive Map Environment like Skyrim or Red Dead Redemption, only set to the Halo Universe where we receive weekly missions/episodes that take place within the confines of this massive map. That way players can still wander it in between the Episodes exploring and getting into firefight situations with friends or with randoms with some sort of match making option available.

I would love an open world Halo game.
We could have factions to join like the UNSC, the rebels. Or as a Covie race we could play as the Covenant or Storm Covenant. :D!
Probably wouldn’t happen though.
I am talking about Spartans Ops as a whole but the part I am referring to that really brings in the campaign starts at episode 3 and expands largely at episode 4. Watch the trailers for episode 4 if you do not know what I am talking about. Its actually getting serious and bringing story into it which like Ghost was talking about could bridge the time between Halo 4 and 5. This would be be huge and a huge game changer if they do this correctly.
Firstly the missions were terrible, complete rips of the campaign/multiplayer maps.
2ndly the episode video’s were great too watch. So I’d ditch the reptitive missions, just make a seriously long feature series since I actually enjoyed watching the episodes but they were too short.
I can see what your saying ronnie but I dont think they should just remove it completely…
Spartan Ops really needs to get role players involved. I want to see missions where you have to escort Halsey without getting her killed(even if it was actually impossible for her to die). I want Palmer and Laskey on the ground. I want to see the Master Chief. I want to see frigates in the background firing at cruisers. To me it really feels like a slightly buffed Spartan Ops. I don’t have a problem with that. I still really enjoy it.
After playing the AMAZING Halo 4 campaign, I was excited for Spartan Ops. What I feel like I got was a repetitive “Kill all the enemies 50 times over” gameplay with the honestly horrible Palmer character shouting at you to speed it up and at Miller and the other guy to “drop toys for Crimson” and “Make it safe for the eggheads.” It was a major disappointment. I can only think of three things I like about it: The CGI videos are interesting and I think 343 should make movies because of how good FUD and these CGI bits are, the amount of credits you get give me an incentive to play them at all, and I actually really like the multiplayer and original map ideas. It seems to be getting better (At least the CGI’s are)
Of course I think I am being overly critical and I’ll just have to be patient.
