Spartan Ops Season 2 Ideas and Opinions

Recently, there has been a lot of talk concerning the next Season of Spartan Ops.

Statistically, Halo Reach has had a lot more players in the long run as opposed to Halo 4. Obviously, Reach has something H4 doesn’t have. I went over to Spartan Ops and discovered there were less than a thousand players online as far as public games go. Some people have said to be successful 343i will have to drop Spartan Ops and replace it. In my opinion, that is totally unnecessary.

I believe 343i will have to step up their game when Halo 5 (Halo Xbox One, whatever) comes around. Personally, I would prefer if 343 added a Firefight mode under the Spartan Ops category. It would make sense and all for the Infinity to deploy Spartans to defend an area against a Covenant/Promethean onslaught. They should also add rewards so when you beat the Season on Legendary, you earn armor like what they did with the Campaign.

Well, that’s enough from me, post your opinions below on what they should do for the next game’s season.

Until next time,
Slayer

343 needs to:

  1. Have more unique environments prepared.

  2. Have more interesting objectives prepared (pressing buttons all the time != immersive).

  3. Hire new writers.

  4. Find new ways to increase difficulty without pitting the player(s) against swarms of power weapon-wielding enemies that eat shots.

All of this, and an ability to mute to the voice of Commander Palmer. That would make Spartan Ops less of a chore.

It needs to be more of a challenge. There’s nothing rewarding about Spartan Ops as it is in Halo 4. No lives to make mistakes count, no real point system so you can compete with your friends, and the only thing the game does with each difficulty increase is up the amount overpowered enemies it throws at you.

It needs better writing and more diverse areas per level, yes, but even with those things if it’s not a real challenge then it’s really not worth replaying.

I think the main problem with Spartan Ops is that when you want it to be really good, you have to create nearly campaign-worthy varied missions/episodes. So you would simply have to do a second campaign.
A lot of work for a side game mode.

However, Spartan Ops has potential but besides its fantastic cinematics, it needs varied missions/episodes with a lot of replay-value and some kind of challenge, like mentioned before.

Now just some ideas/wishes for potential future missions:

  1. A stealth mission where you have to infiltrate an enemy base to get important infos or something like that. You would have to stay unnoticed and take out enemies silently to get succesfully to your target. In simple words you would have to play tactically and not just jump and gun everything down.

  2. Finding, protecting and rescueing a group of civilians. The group would always spawn randomly, so you would always have to search them when you play that mission. Also you would have to find them in a certain amount of time and you would have to make sure that a certain amount of them stays alive to complete the mission successfully.

  3. Maybe an entire episode about boarding and destroying an covenant carrier. Starting off with a space battle in the first mission to get to the carrier. Then fighting your way through the carrier to get to his reactor, plant and defend a bomb and finally leave the carrier before it blows up under your feet.

My last point is that I think Spartan Ops should demand more team play. I mean you play as a Spartan Fireteam and not as a pack of lone wolfs.

That would be quite cool, I’ve always wanted dynamic missions like that, and the closest thing we got to those was the first chapter of “Scattered” (The one where you have to escape with just a Carbine and a PP)

Am I aloud to shoot the civilians? Because I want to shoot them.

I see what you mean there. I can’t remember the name of the episode, but Spartan Fireteam Shadow had to infiltrate a CRS-Class Cruiser and destroy it. It was pretty impressive.

343 need to structure each season (story-wise) not produce a number of episodes and think, “Wow, how did we get here?!, oh well, let’s fly requiem into the sun and get rid of one of Halsey’s arms, that should do…”
