Spartan Ops Season 2 Brainstorm

So, there’s a general consensus that Spartan Ops (while adding much to be excited for lore-wise) wasn’t a big hit overall. Missions would play out on the same map one after the other until players were sick of Valhalla and the endless turkey shoot. Personally, I enjoyed the idea and the overarching story behind Spartan Ops, but it did get tedious.

So, even though Season 2 is cancelled, here’s some episodes that could revive and revamp Spartan Ops:

PREQUEL- Inception: The players step into the roles of the freshly enhanced SPARTAN IIs and infiltrate the Insurrectionist base in Eridanus and capture Colonel Robert Watts. Gameplay is similar to ODST. This mission would help develop possible future conflict with Insurrectionists in future Halo games.

EPISODE 1- Blue Team: The players step into the shoes of Master Chief and Blue Team when they don MJOLNR for the first time. Missions would be centered around a few of the Spartans’ early engagements against the Covenant. Since the SPARTANS have no shielding, it is possible to pick up and “dual-wield” Jackal energy shields.

  • Chi Ceti IV: Space exfiltration and boarding of Covenant ship. Somewhat open world to find the engine room.- Sigma Octanus IV: Infiltrate the city. Fight way into Cote d’Azur Museum, destroy the Covenant scanner/transmitter, arm nuke and escape.- Raid on the Third Fleet of Glorious Consequence: Infiltrate the Covenant fleet and rescue Dr. Halsey.- Reach: Follow Fred and the Spartans to the surface to engage the Covenant there. Players act as Fred’s squad as they destroy the landing zone and retreat to CASTLE base. You defend and destroy CASTLE base with Halsey’s help, then retreat deeper into the base where you find Forerunner artifacts.EPISODE 2- Operation: FIRST STRIKE: Immediately following the destruction of Alpha Halo, the player, as MC, searches the debris field for survivors, finding Linda and Johnson’s group. This episode details the MC’s return to Earth between CE and H2.
  • Dust and Echoes: Find the cryopods and Johnson’s pelican, then fly the Longsword into the Covenant ship, dog-fighting through Seraphs.- Ascendant Justice: Take command of the Covenant ship.- Rescue: MC and friends return to Reach and rescue the surviving Spartans, Admiral Whitcomb and Dr. Halsey.- First Strike: Infiltrate and destroy the Unyielding Hierophant. Then go to Earth in time for Halo 2 to begin.EPISODE 3- ONYX: Step into the role of the Spartan IIIs
  • Alpha Company: Engage Covenant forces guarding K7-49, destroy the factories, then die.- Beta Company: Step into the SPI boots of Tom and Lucy for Operation: TORPEDO.- Saber Team: Partway through a training session, your squad comes under attack by Onyx Sentinels. In an open-world style, you must fight your way back to safety.- Bloodied Spirit: On Earth, Fred and Blue Team seize command of a Covenant ship and go to Onyx.- Reclaimers: Run from and fight advancing Covenant and sentinels, then hop inside the shield world. (a post episode cutscene should detail how everyone on Onyx got out, and how Halsey was punished for war crimes)

If you read all of that, congratulations, what do you think of it?

I seriously Love all this.
Spartan Op is such a missed opportunity Thought it is a lot of work to make a fully functioning “campaign” for free(like spartan op was).
Watching the Spartan ops Video I wish i was able to play the missions shown.
Not to say all missions in S/O were bad many were great.

But playing mission through out the EU would be great

I also think Ordinance Would work great in Spartan Ops, Get so many kill Call in upgraded weapon or save in and get more kills for better weapons,
Also Maybe be able to call in Drones, Bombers, Gun ships, Odst/ Spartan Back up, Etc etc

As long as They keep im immersive and actually give Spartan Ops some content. The frist spartan ops was great but i really think if the make and out standing Episodic content it could be amazing

Maybe play through content from the new Comics

Exactly. Halo Reach and 4 added a lot of good ideas to gameplay, but undesirably made those changes to competitive multiplayer matches. I think if they put those ideas in a separate (relevant, enjoyable) game type, people wouldn’t complain.

And if Spartan Ops isn’t enough, I think they could add some DLC ODST Ops or Sangheili Ops to expand upon the increasingly awesome Halo universe and give us a full space alien adventure.

I feel like there is so much untapped potential in the EU that would make for some cool mission maybe not a full game but something

Your ideas make me wet. Sigma octanus 4 especially.

Also How about A new Respawn option, Add Bleeding out with a toggle to Instant respawn, Add a bonus for Reviving your team mate, and add a penalty to Instant death(point loss) When you do respawn Have it be ODST style In a drop pod like in the beginning of halo ODST kind of like Section 8

> Love your ideas however i think spartan ops should be re-named to not rip COD, change it to rounds of covenant, with skulls-OH WAIT THAT ALREADY EXISTS AND WAS RIPPED FROM HALO FOR NO REASON???-firefight

you obviously didn’t even read anything in this thread, SMH

I think the point is that We can Have both Spartan Ops and Fire fight, I dont think it would be a huge stretch to thing that both could not happen.

Mmm the point of Spartan Ops was to show what was YOUR Spartan doing while not training at war-games. Maybe all of this could be a spin-off after the release of Halo 5.

But the whole episodic content would be a neat way to join everything together Sure it would need is own self contained team to update and create content and if the content was good enough it would warrant payed episodes Via Walking dead id could safely be more content on a more regular bases then Spin off games.

That why i was originally so ecited for Spartan Ops in the first place they said they had ideas to keep content coming till halo 5, but it just wasn’t popular and this was due to the smaller team and under developed content, but if the took a second chance on it it could be amazing.

It doesn’t just have to be exclusive to past Spartan engagements, it most certainly could (and should) include your spartan. The point is that they release an episode every other month or so that is well made and important and unique in its own way, that make players want to get the next episode and play the missions, not just youtube the cutscenes to be up-to-date on all things Halo.

That’s what keeps me going back to campaign, each level is a unique experience with a mostly unique terrain (I’m ok with some reuse of maps, like CE’s Assault on the Control Room/Two Betrayals, or H3’s The Storm/Floodgate) but even the reuse was not obvious because of how different each mission ended up being.

Plus it would bring out the history and necessity of having the spartans, how hopeless humanity’s cause was, add give us the experience of being spartan IIIs, and bringing the lore of Halo to the casual gamer who doesn’t read the books. They could throw in some S. Johnson Ops on Harvest for extra spice.

What do you exactly mean by EU? Not the European Union I hope.

Lol expanded universe

This reminds me, what if SpOps was separated into Crimson and Blue Team? I mean, narrative-wise Blue Team would be better off without following the Chief, and plus “Crimson (Red)” and “Blue”.

That cool. If they made that I think Onyx should be first and Blue team last. (just saying)
