Just like Firefight saved ODST, Spartan Ops saved Halo 4.
Halo 4’s Story was rushed in my opinion, because 343 knew they could not finish someone else’s work. Every artist/story teller knows this fact.
I just played Episodes 1-3, I had not played any episode since today and played them back to back on Normal for optimal experience. No co-op just solo even though i’m sure the fun factor comes with groups.
My review is that Spartan Ops is a keeper, it’s no FireFight Killer but it offers something new. The maps could use some individuality like some forge additions that at least make them feel different. The story episodes are EPIC but the in-game scenes not so much. This 3rd Episode showed some NPC’s but like in Campaign they prove to be nothing more than meat shields. I was given no incentive to even protect them even though I was supposed to rescue them, they also run at Hunters so protecting them is not going to happen. Large scale battles were the focus of this week and they were fun, but nothing to write home about. Some felt to dragged on like one wave to long but its not a deal breaker. All in all Spartan Ops is cool, I await the 4th episode to see if it can keep my attention. The replay value is pretty low as well, unless they add some challenges in them that have a significant reward (non-exp rewards)
I disagree with Halo 4’s story being rushed. I found it better than 3’s and Reach’s, and far more engaging. Though yeah, Spartan Ops is amazing and I love it so much. I hope they do the same thing for Halo 5/6 because it expands so much more on the story–mainly the cinematics of course but the gameplay adds a fun factor to it.
Honestly, I think this beats Reach’s firefight and is on par with ODST’s.

I’m curious on what parts of the story you found engaging in this story?
Also how are you comparing Firefight to a weekly mission based side story?
No Theater option for Spartan Ops(or Campaign for that matter), a Challenge nerf today, and other reasons makes me not like Spartan Ops as much I would have. If Spartan Ops has 2 dailies, 2 weekly, and 1 monthly challenge like War Games, and had Theater mode available for Spartan Ops, I would think it was awesome.
