What is your take that Spartan Ops may be removed for Halo 5? Personally, I don’t care, I felt like it was fight enemies and push a button, and repeat. I enjoyed them, but apparently it didn’t do much to keep players returning. At first when they came out every Monday I was interested in them, but after the 4th or 5th episode I was kind of bored of them. What I really think should happen it to take the budget, time, and design of Spartan Ops and bring back firefight. I always felt like it was missing.
I prefer Spartan ops as it provides context Firefight was more repetitive
Why not both? Leave firefight as it is or maybe add boss fights and fortifications ala Horde 2.0 from Gears 3.
Spartan Ops is fine for the second campaign option but the development time needs to increase from weekly to monthly at the least. That should reduce the need to recycle maps.
In my humble opinion, Spartan Ops and Firefight should both be removed to preserve precious resources and development time for improving the other, more important aspects of the game, such as Campaign, Matchmaking, Custom Games, Forge, Theatre, etc. which after Halo 4 and Reach, desperately need it. They could create and release Spops and Firefight as expansions/DLC later, as long as they didn’t interfere with the development of the primary game itself.
If it’s going to be more of the arcade game mode from Halo Reach, than I won’t ever want to see it return. If it’s going to be more like ODST and not just about rockets, jet packs and infinite ammo than I’d like to see it return.
I love Spartan Ops because I think it has great potential. Halo 4’s iteration did not even scratch the surface of it, and I think giving up after one try would be a shame, especially considering how awesome the cutscenes are.
I voted for just Spartan Ops because I think the chance of seeing both is slim. Integrating some Firefight-esque missions into SpOps would be easy, though, and that way everyone wins.
That said, there is overwhelming evidence that SpOps is dropped from Halo 5 due to its poor reception and its low play count. That is sad, but I totally understand. The effort of making 50 missions and trying to keep it fresh with everything you’ve got only for it not to be worth it… One thing is for sure- cutting SpOps will allow Halo 5 a lot of breathing room, and it might be for the best. So, if it is indeed cut, I’d like to see ODSTish Firefight return or an entirely new mode.
I prefer ODST Firefight to Spartan Ops personally. But if it is going to drain too much resources from Campaign and Multiplayer then they should probably be axed altogether. Or at least come out on another disc with an extended campaign like Halo 3 ODST did later on.
I think with the amount of time and resources 343i have at their disposal this time round they should be able to produce a quality Campaign, Multiplayer and Firefight (or Spartan Ops) for Halo 5 though.
I voted for both as really firefight and spartan ops are unique and should return. Suggesting that one is better than the other is like suggesting campaign players are better than matchmakers, there is no comparison. Yes spartan ops may have been recycled at times, but people don’t get that 343 Industries were using the same map pieces because it related to the location being revisited. The spartan ops was solely set on one location, Shield World Requiem, and so 343 symbolized places that are revisited. Anyway spartan ops have just brushed the surface of what it could become and so, a lot of potential looms around it. Perhaps maybe three missions per episode and episodes released fortnightly or monthly. It all really depends on the location of where season 2 is set? And whether the Infinity can travel to various planets/installations throughout that season to mix it up a little.

They are similar but Halo 3 ODST Firefight, Halo Reach Firefight and Halo 4 Spartan Ops are different in various ways. They each have their own feel to them and Spartan Ops lacks a lot of the commendations from Reach and multi-kill medals from both Halo 3 and Reach. Spartan Ops also focused on Spartans and had cut scenes and a lot of story whereas ODST was focused on another group of UNSC forces. Obviously Halo 4 doesn’t include the Brutes as an enemy either.
> I voted for both as really firefight and spartan ops are unique and should return
This is the truth. It was the lag and unlimited lives that did spops for me but the potential is obvious.
I do love firefight tho. How people can say it’s easy is beyond me (offline i’m talking about). Legendary is rock hard. I would like more map interactivity in the future. Imagine overlook as the buildings are being progressively destroyed by the phantom bombs and that -yoinking- wraith from the other side of the river.
Well, obviously I would go straight to saying both - but I’m going to have to choose one… And that would be Spartan Ops.
While Spartan Ops may have came off as a bad end in Halo 4; like others have said, we’ve only scratched the surface. What gives Spartan Ops a thousand more advantages over Firefight is that Spartan Ops adds to the story, can come in diverse and immense forms, and can be sustained with new content long after release.
I am a chronic Campaign Player and the repetitiveness of Spartan Ops never affected me and IMO is a stupid reason to say it sucked.
Firefight is super repetitive and so is Matchmaking. The only thing that isn’t repetitive every time you play is Custom Games and that is only amplified by Forge. Without that it will be repetitive too.
Spartan Ops was a great experience for me and the Lore. It showed how the UNSC works instead of just he perspective of Master Chief. Not that i have a problem with Big Ole Sad’n Green but ever since Halo 2 Split Campaign I don’t really feel the same about having only one story being told. Another reason why i loved ODST and in the series i am making. I have many peoples perspectives and how they view others outside of their own people.
Halo 5 will need to do this as well. Either in Spartan Ops or Campaign with adding in a Covenant story. Even playing as a Jackal Pirate would be great. If 343i really wants to change things maybe they should try actually innovation.
Spartan Ops was great.
First off I’m a HUGE campaigner. Me and my brother played Halo 2’s campaign so many times that I’ve lost track, and don’t even get me started on Reach’s firefight mode. That too was played to death.
When they announced Spartan Ops in Halo 4 I just about died. Until I found out that you need to be online to play it and my brother didn’t have gold. Someone will say why don’t we just use one gold (i.e. my) account and just play it that way, but the thing is it seemed a bit unfair that I was getting all the points and achievements while my brother got nothing in the end and no rank increase.
Don’t get me wrong Halo 4’s Spartan Ops was and is a solid idea. But my personal problem with it is the lack of offline availability. If they could have made Spartan Ops available silver members would have made the game ten times better.
I hope both SpOps and Firefight appear in Halo 5. That way we can have two separate sets of commies.
How about both? Release one new firefight map each week with the Spops episodes.
