Spartan ops recycled levels... (SMH)

Ok first off I just want to say I love the game and have been playing the crap outta of it. But when I went to play the new spartan ops, it was really disappointing to play on recycled levels. Granted the new encounters were fun, I just PRAY the rest of the season is not simply recycled/ re skinned campaign and original spartan ops levels in reverse.

With 40 more missions planned I pray at least 50% of those are original content. Otherwise spartan ops will just be seen as a big let down and a really really BIG MISSED OPPORTUNITY . Btw I also thought the cg episodes themselves would be longer then 4 min, thats really weak imo but at least the quality is top notch.

Yeah its a shame they were recycled, even a change to the time of day on these maps would have made the biggest difference.

Yeah…

I thought we had to download spartan ops
(Episode 2)

They may have been in a rush to do these, when you are making a game its not like you have all the free time in the world to do so. Honestly, I don’t mind as long as the future episodes are a little bit more different.

I agree a day/ night or weather change would of helped abit.

I had a horrible feeling that this was going to happen…

They’re not “recycled” Forerunner architecture is very uniform and repeats itself!

Yeah, I know someone is going to come in here and use CE as an example that you can make entire game out of the same five rooms.

hopefully things get more original as the season progresses. Spartan Ops is a great concept, but not if that consists of you playin the same damn levels over in different directions lol

> I had a horrible feeling that this was going to happen…

so did I… Hopefully the first 2-3 weeks max are only recycling to drive home the fact that, yess ,you are back on requiem.

Yeah, what was it the second mission that just has you backtracking down the structure? I was pretty disappointed to see that it was just a reverse version of the campaign.

This isn’t Mario Kart, reversing the maps does not make them new.

It’s a little annoying, but seeing as these Episodes are free, I don’t see it as that much of a problem. Later down the road, if the PAID episodes are recycled levels, then it will be unacceptable.

Spartan OPs in my mind is an utter flop. I get 343 was trying to do something new but the mode just stinks.

-Why do you get double the XP for playing a 5 min chapter of Spartan OPs with unlimited lives then playing War Games?
-Why is there no in game scoring/medals?
-Why was Fire Fight replaced by this? The 2 modes have nothing to do with each other?

The levels so far look like the could all do fire fight no problem. Maybe fire fight will return in the form of a title update

bump

Am, I the only one whos payed attention to the Story or knows actually what Spartan Ops is intended to be?

I am going to play devil’s advocate here, but I prefer it that way right now.

These levels are coming out weekly, right? I would rather them recycle content to get them out quickly so that they can focus their time on something more important like the matchmaking options, custom variants, countless glitches, forge, or anything else that would actually keep the game going long after Spartan Ops ends.

Nope. It’s clear that 343 is working within the very tight constraints of bandwidth and other limitations of the 360. The fact that Spartan Ops is being attempted is ambitious, if a little crazy.

Episode 2 was fun but i couldn’t shake the feeling I’ve played in those environments already. Sans the first level, which we didn’t play in the first episode. Though there were some tweaks to these revisted levels but what stood out to me the most is how much enemies 343 threw at us this week. Holy -Yoink- lol.

Things should get better after Episode 2, same thing happened with FuD mind you :P. Started off slow, a bit rough but picked up speed and developed into something special.

Look at the brightside people; These episodes come WITH Matchmaking updates! So if Spops is no longer your thing, go play MP. /story

I pointed this out in another thread but let me just say it again. The episodic model works a lot like a TV show. Now, in a TV show, you’re asked to tell people a story that’s really on par with a movie every three or four weeks, and to break that story into nicely formatted little chunks so that the viewer can understand it. Now, a lot of you may have come to Spartan Ops intending for it to be a fix for your button pressing, covenant-shooting addiction; that’s not the point. The point is to tell a story in an episodic format. So, you use some of the same environments plain and simple. How many sections of “How I Met Your Mother” take place in the same bar, how many of the funniest moments in “Two and a Half Men” are in the same living room you’ve seen for the past how many episodes, past how many seasons? If you were expecting new environments every time, you really asked for too much.

Well since Infinity sent some scientists down to Requiem, I’m sure that’s a possible reason for us backtracking. I think they sent Marines to establish a foohold there or something for the third mission. Then with the scientists disappearing in the 5th mission, more then likely has something to do with the artifact that’s on Infinity.

The levels are set before the chief get there… Notice how there are ammo and dead bodies on some levels? And that peice of forunner tech that the lab rats were talking about? It’s called cannon. It’s telling a story from another person. I.E your Spartan IV
