Spartan Ops - Onyx Question

In the novel “Ghost of Onyx,” the story took place during Halo 3’s events and timeline. Dr. Halsey and a group of Spartan 3’s were stranded in the Shield-World Onyx, with the forerunner world closing every route to their escape; with the novel giving the preposition that they were going to remain in the shield-world for a number of years, even unknown to the other UNSC ships and branches.

In Spartan Ops, Dr. Halsey seems to return out of the blue, and no background is given to talk about her past, and what she learned from a previous shield-world installation. Any reason why this isn’t mentioned in the lore of Spartan Ops?

Is 343i taking the same direction as Bungie, creating a whole new parallel universe with no background or tie-in, as Bungie did with Reach? Kind of disappointing, but I would like to hear something about this, since I have read some of the Halo novels.

Read Grasslands and Thursday War.

I, myself, have not read them yet but they should help you.

Halo: Glasslands explains how they got out and why Halsey is under arrest. In the grand scheme of Halo 4 it really isn’t all that important, but I’m with you that a reference would be nice. 343i said reading the books wouldn’t be required, but they pretty much are.

And 343i are trying to link the games and books better than Bungie, but have failed in my opinion so far.

O sweet. Never even imagined those existed. I’m going to look into those. Reading the wiki, now the story is being more complete. Complete enjoyment.
