“Crimson, you need to flip this switch. Activate this science machine. Defend the base! Activate those turrets. You got bad guys coming in.”
I know some will disagree, but I am disappointed in Spartan Ops variety. Not that the actual gameplay and story are bad (I actually like that), but the variety of missions are just…god awful.
For Spartan Ops, we generally get these three scenarios…
1.) Defend a spot against waves of Covenant/Prometheans
2.) Rescue mission.
3.) Fight through waves of enemies to grab something.
And, when you’re doing the same thing for 25 games, it just. gets. old.
Why don’t we have more variety? Why can’t we have a mission where we are fighting through a Covenant Cruiser to destroy it? A mission where we are sniping off Covenant guys without being spotted? A mission where we are defending a Pelican carrying scientists as they fly over Requiem? Scarab fights?
Not only would those kind of games pay homage to past Halo games (Cruiser would be Truth and Reconciliation, Sniping would be something like T&R or Nightfall, Air Mission as New Alexandria mixed with Halo 3’s “The Covenant”, Scarab from Halo 2 and 3), but it would give gamers something different than the “Flip the Switch, Shoot these Guys, defend against 17 waves of bad guys.”

Hopefully its new ones.
And i don’t really mind about spartan ops, as long as they change it a bit.

I read that. From the way it’s worded and sounds, it basically is saying…
“SOPs Season 1 returns in January with new Episodes and Chapters (Aka. You get the new missions, but it could be the same missions as we got the first half in terms of how they play), Locations and Maps (Adding from Crimson Map Pack and such).”
I like Spartan Ops, I think it’s OK, but you’re right, some variety would be good for SO, flying around or sniping enemies,or… dunno, using camo to not being seeing on an infiltrating mission… Something different would be great.
my only complaint about spartan ops is the same maps over and over. just hey crimson go here, next week we return, and its basicly a new environment in the story, when its same map we have been fighting through all the time, i dont mind flicking switches, its just fighting in the same environments
343 said map recycling wouldnt take place in halo 4, spartan ops is based from it
other than that i love spartan ops

It’s a lot extremely boring. I don’t see a problem with the same maps but with the repetitive goals. Like the Op said, do the same thing over and over is boring as hell.
I look at it like this. You have the entire palette of campaign to chose from use all of that space, not just a few environments from it. Build maps from the ground up for some of the missions. There are some great areas from the campaign that could be used, the end of dawn for example, the bridges from midnight. Many areas could be used.

Yup. I’m fine with maps being repeated (as long as it isn’t three of the same in a single week), but doing the same missions over and over again is just horrendous.
Spartan Ops really needs improvements in terms of bridging the story with the mission AND bringing in brand new environments. Let me imagine a scenario that, in my opinion, helps bridge the story and missions. Say the Covenant have managed to discover a Forerunner artifact and have it holed up in a fortress they found. A direct assault would be suicidal, but the first four missions could involve hitting them indirectly and weakening their forces to the point their fortress is more easily infiltrated.
Chapter 1 could involve destroying a Covenant COMM relay to interrupt their communications.
Chapter 2 could involve eliminating a Covenant supply depot to ensure they have a small amount of arms and vehicles.
Chapter 3 could involve assassinating a high ranking Covenant officer to destabilize the leadership on the field.
Chapter 4 could involve sneaking onto a Covenant cruiser and taking it over to more easily sneak to the fortress.
Chapter 5 deals with infiltrating the fortress starting from the cruiser to the depths of the fortress. The Spartans would then retrieve the artifact, fight their way out and returning back home to the Infinity.

This. I had my hopes extremely high with Spartan Ops. Perhaps, 343 should create 10x times sized maps. This would make possible the existence of dozens of random missions you could get any time you joined a game.

I’ll bet you anything that it’s just the new maps, and that you will have to get the map pack to play Ops.
Spartan Ops either needs significantly better story, and more of it, and presented in a better way during missions. Or it needs significantly less story, and just be wave after wave of enemies until “chapter complete”.
Or give me the option to shut the volume off to the cough “support” staff, so I don’t have to hear their excuses for why their intel is always late, they never see an ambush coming, and get pissy I’m not doing better without any backup or resupply.
There’s no way even Master Chief could have saved humanity with the UNSC this incompetent. It’s possible all the good military minds, and leaders either died, retired, or are facing war crimes charges. So now the UNSC is scraping from the bottom of the barrel for leadership.
In reality I think it’s just not enough resources in 343 being used to maximize the potential of Spartan Ops. Not enough money, not enough planning, not enough writing and scripting, and not enough people.
