Spartan Ops needs a lot improvement!!!

Hello everyone, You all probably have played Spartans Ops. The mini campaign simulation focusing on Spartan 4’s. Let me say, I have beat chapter 1 on solo legendary and I am in progress for chapter 2.

After playing, I can conclude there are many issues and I will explain them in detail and offer solutions I believe to make a more fun and enjoyable experience for all.

Let me say however Spartan Ops has excellent cutscenes that truly shine. The idea of campaign mini missions is a good one and should be expanded upon.

Now then, here is what I feel is wrong:

  • The campaign
The 4 minute introduction is refreshing but the missions themselves seem to have little connection to one another nor the grand scheme of the story. They have weak connections and just seem random at times.

  • Gameplay
The gameplay over all is very repetitive and gets boring after several missions. It consists of mostly button pushing and the same objectives over and over. it gets old really fast as the same formula is used so much.

  • My team?
I play solo and it is awkward when Palmer is talking to my team which does not exist. It is even weirder hearing other spartans who are not there.

  • Challenge?
There is no challenge, I can die 1,000 times and still win. There is no incentive to try and survive and it makes it too easy.

  • Power weapons
Way too many, makes the already fast missions super fast.

Suggestions:

  • make it fun:
Make the gameplay unique, have new experiences like a mission with a Pelican, don’t recycle the same maps over and over again.

  • A.I spartan:
Let us actually be part of a team and form a connection with the spartans.

  • Mission fail mode
After a certain number of deaths, you lose, gives it a challenge.

Overall, I would say Spartan Ops has failed to replicate Firefight and provide an enjoyable experience. It is easy, quick, and has no incentive to win. Plus it is beatable in 10 minutes. In the end, Firefight should of just returned.

The reason I say this is because firefight is about surviving waves and waves of enemies. an actual challenge that is determined based on player skill, not a small map and surplus of weapons with infinite lives.

But, if Spartan Ops can offer something new and fun, I definitively would love to see it again.

^ this.

Plus it’s a little boring.

But I love the rvb Easter eggs.

Also, am I missing cutscenes? I feel like Im Missing something.

There are 4 minute mini-cutscenes at the episode. I would of been better having 5 smaller 1 minute episodes connection each mission.

I feel the missions all follow the same formula and do nothing new or exciting.

Overall, I miss Firefight because it was a challenge to survive and was as long as you made it.

I agree with the cut scenes and the chapters not meshing well going from one to the next. On that note, why call a single play a chapter and a set of chapters an episode? I would think it would be reverse.

The whole opening with fire team majestic was good, but when you are playing your actually part of fire team crimson. Ok, who is crimson, what is their back story? There is no real connection between what I/my team is doing and with what majestic does in the cut scenes.

More variety I will agree with also. Would like to see a vehicle mission or an escape mission where something is blowing up and you have to get off it fast, maybe an UNSC derelict ship whos engines are about to blow.

I kinda am partial to the whole MM aspect of dying and respawning without needing checkpoints. These leads to less frustration when a random death happens. Also I tend to kill myself to get more ammo for my guns.

I’m saddened to say I have to agree with your assessments of Spartan Ops where I really shouldn’t have to. There is only one things though that I have an issue with.

  1. With Lag present the whole die too many times can be extremely frustrating. 343 wants people of all ages and ability to play Spartan Ops and come away with a positive view of it. The Ai is extremely proficient in hitting the player and on Legendary it’s a nightmare with spawning Promethean and weapons disappearing, along with a host of other technical issues that seem present and that will quickly force players to return to MP and forego Spartan Ops as a gimmick meant for a few runs on heroic or normal with friends or simply a solo play through when bored.

I just find the same formula is used literally in every mission.

  • secure this site for the “eggheads”
  • kill enemies
  • press shiny buttons
  • LZ is too hot
  • kill enemies

I find it is not challenging and very confusing as to what “story” is being told. Is seems never ending in repletion.

But I have little control of what enemies I fight, how tough they are, etc. Unless Spartan Ops does something amazing or unique, I will not be buying anything.
