You know how some games have the habit of, as you approach the final boss, throwing every possible enemy at you in an effort to slow you down and stretch the game out as long as possible?
Spartan Ops is like that. In every chapter. Five times a week.
I only did the first five chapters on Legendary, because I wanted the achievement. I find the worst thing is when you die and the game respawns you RIGHT in the middle of a huge group of enemies. If you’re especially unlucky it will do this several times in a row. Horrible.
> It gets annoying when you’re being spawn killed by a number of energy sword and fuel rod cannon Elites.

> It’s a good challenge IMO, but sometimes it gets to the point where I need to rely on the respawning to succeed.
I’m currently playing the 3rd chapter of the 4th episode on solo Legendary right now. I have just respawned for the 36th time (no joke). Upon spawning I get blasted in the face by fuel rod elites. Should they fail to send me to my grave, a wild pack of sword-carrying Elites are actively hunting me down anyway.
I am playing with the volume muted as I could no longer care about the story nor the voices of Palmer (“eggheads eggheads eggheads”) and whoever that other guy is. I already know the formula of these chapters: kill a bucketload of random enemies, press a button, kill two more bucketloads of enemies to press two more buttons, kill any remaining enemies, get evacuated.
I’m not even trying anymore. I’m just running into a big group of enemies while tossing grenades and shooting wildly. I just can’t bring myself to care enough to try, this whole thing feels like such a lazy feature.
So I’m now on the 4th chapter of the 4th episode. Chasing down this nice fellow Jul 'Mdama. A marker is placed on him to show his exact location. I give chase (blasting my way through the first group of Covenant). I reach the marker, only two find a big locked door. The guy on the radio says he’ll unlock it. Low and behold, two drop pods arrive to unleash another batch of specially-cooked hell. As soon as I look to be making some progress with this group of Covenant, another drop pod arrives. Covenant reinforcements, lovely.
It feels like they have tried to come up with any excuse to throw another wave of enemies at you.
(p.s just got spawned twice in a row in the face of a sword-wielding elite. SLASH! dead.)
I tried the second episode of chapter 5 yesterday and at a certain point I had to find a way to get past 3 Knights with Binary Rifles with a scenic view of my spawn. After much grieving I managed to leave my spawn and kill one of them, dying in the process. From my respawn camera I was able to see that a watcher had come down from the sky and resserected the Knight I just died to take out, completely nullifying my hardwork. All of the scientist died btw.

Yeah, a similar thing happened to me on the 2nd chapter of the 4th episode. I was trying to thin out a very very large group of Knights, Watchers and Crawlers. Two Knights in particular were causing me trouble. One had a scattershot, the other a light rifle or a suppressor. Whenever I killed one, a Watcher would resurrect it. If I managed to kill the Watcher and the Knight, the other Knight would give birth to a brand new Watcher, allowing it to ressurect his buddy. This process of birth and rebirth continued for a while, until I eventually managed to defeat the whole group.
Man, they really need to up their game when it comes to Spartan Ops. Even something as simple as incorporating your own customized Spartan into some cutscenes at the beginning of each chapter (a la Halo:Reach) would make it more interesting.
By definition, yes. It also means there’s absolutely no pressure to stay alive. Ran out of ammo? That’s ok, just let yourself die and you’ll respawn with a fully replenished arsenal.
This is the most frustrating thing and is why I refuse to play this junk anyways. Every level you can just see them coming up with obvious ways of hurling 20 enemies at you at once.
Every -Yoink!- chapter. Hell I think one of the latest ones has 3 Promethean knight/battle-wagons that spawn and once killed proceed to spawns again 3 more times. Each time you kill them another 3 appear and again and again. Ridiculous.

Tell me about it. I’m now on the 5th chapter of the 4th episode. It’s on the map Complex. Not sure what I’m actually doing here. Something about a scientist (of course, what else?). Phantoms just keep coming in over and over and over and over and over again. Any time it looks like the group is thinning out, I hear the guy say “Watch out Commander, Phantoms inbound”.
Also, they call the enemies “bad guys”.
Bad guys. Bad. Guys.
How old are we?
Also, I forgot to mention every enemy has the accuracy of a professional sniper. It doesn’t matter what type of enemy it is - grunt, elite, jackal - nor what weapon is being used - fuel rod, storm rifle - they will hit you from any distance with pinpoint accuracy.
Chapter 3, Episode 5: I am currently getting spawn-killed by a swarm of Fuel Rod Elites. They have surrounded my spawn point. I literally cannot escape.
I wonder what’s wrong with making the enemies more intelligent when increasing difficulty.
I mean, it does get more difficult when the enemy gets better weapons, better accuracy, more health, shoot faster and projectiles travel faster, but it’s frustrating grinding down shields all the time only to see the enemy hop in behind a rock and get the shields back.
I want to see the enemy use strategy and tactics to take you out with normal stats.
Not juggernaughts blocking your bullets with their heads and then killing you.
I only played the first map solo Legendary, in the second one I died three times, pressed the on/off button on the xbox and played Minecraft on my laptop instead.
Kudos to you who force yourself through SpOps legendary solo.
Seriously guys i don’t know about you but i never die on spartan ops solo but on co-op because of the annoying players i try to keep it to under 10 deaths and i succeed.
The key is not to rush and to take enemies from afar.
