It feels like its lacking something. Don’t get me wrong, the whole concept of it is great, but it feels like its missing something. Anybody agree or oppose?
I like SpOps as well, but using the same areas is not really adding flavor. Maybe add more areas for the SpOps story?
I feel as though the in-game narrative has little to no relation to the direction the cinematics take the story-line.
That’s my only gripe with Spartan Ops.
too many enemies in one area is my gripe
i played through “shootout in valhalla” on easy
well with 6 elites of varying supremacy surrounded by 20 jackels and grunts (the things i want to assassinate mind you for that commendation)
with their super duper dodging skills i find it hard to focus on and take one down from any distance and was force to simply run in, nade and hope to get luck then rinse and repeat
if this encounter was spread over a larger area it would have been much better however they were all pretty much sitting in the stream between the central and western cliff
I have only two problems with Spartan Ops. One is that while the action is intense, the storyline isn’t really. All the stuff dealing with the Artifact takes place in the cutscene episode while we fight stuff and push buttons in the gameplay, which isn’t badly done, mind you. The second is that the respawns are a pain, though only when the missions are done solo, especially on defense objectives. I want to spawn inside the base with the scorpions and rocket launchers, not outside in the scopes of a Wraith and five snipers.
-varied encounters. There ought to be Covies and Prometheans working together. Right now, it’s just power weapon wielding/high ranking enemies being spammed at us
-more areas being utilized. The enemies are often heavily concentrated in one location, adding to the punishment they dish out
-patrolling or sneaking (remember those Grunts who tip toed with their hands sticking out?) behavior. Enemies are onto you 90% of the time
-less rushing. This is one of the main reasons why I die in SO. They only should rush if a really high ranking enemy has been taken care of
-AI use more than 1 gun. Seriously, what happened to the Elites that were in Reach? IIRC, they spawned with 2 guns (but never used the secondary)
-allied Elites. Enough said
-temporary truce with Storm on some missions (i.e. to stop rampant Forerunner constructs, fight Covie Loyalists)
-a look at the current relationship between Prometheans and Storm. I’d like it if it was deteriorating a bit. It really sucks that only 1 level in the campaign shows them fighting each other
Its missing a fair XP distribution system.
Otherwise, everything is really good for me. I’m impressed and haven’t explored Spops a lot.
We as spartans need to be a little bit tougher, one slap from an elite shouldnt be the end of us.
Scoring
Pop up medals
Jeff the announcer
I want to see medals pop up, I want to hear jeff tell me that medal, and I want to see my score, so I know I killed that hunter or Banshee. If you look in the carnage report after your biggest kill has a score. Why? It seems that they left it out, why?

I agree. I miss the medals popping up on what you got or w/e, its like basically firefight, but with a “Storyline” with it. It needs a kick!
It does feel very stale most of the time, but the cinematics are -Yoinking!- amazing!
I wish the dialogue was better and I wish missions were longer and more varied.

Recycled areas get annoying. The Multiplayer maps getting used to justify a reason for being in multiplayer, however, that is kind of a one-trick pony, IMO.
I want to see NEW maps, maybe not this week, but next. I am sick of playing the same levels.
Majestic squad should stay on the Infinity. They only get in the way.
Show a cin with our Spartans.
The missions themselves are boring.
I don’t really blame them though. It’s difficult to mass-produce a whole series of missions with a variety of very interesting level design, and then release it weekly for free. Developing a very good mission takes a lot of time and effort, and with the cyclical structure and the sheer number of missions in Spartan Ops, I doubt they would have been able to do that without pushing the release off for at least another year or so.
For some reason, the simple edition of a unique objective besides “Clear this area of enemies” made it 100X better for me (specifically, killing Parg Vol)
It’s weird, since he’s only there because you’re told he is in the first couple missions, and he’s just a regular Elite when you do fight him, but it gave a bigger sense of purpose.
More unique levels like The Cauldron would be nice. That’s one beautiful environment right there.

I thought the integration of actual Multiplayer maps was amazing. I hope it continues.
-Teammates keep taking my kills with grenade spam
-nothing is falling for the hologram
-die too fast
-Teammates keep blowing up my Mantis’
I think a “Split up and look for clues” mission should arise! Each member has to unlock a piece of this Forerunner door, but each objective is guarded by…stuff.
Games without 4 people can have some NPC help.

I personally feel it lacks a bit of story and it doesn’t help considering all three episodes so far are reruns of previous area maps and multiplayer maps.
The backtracking in Spartan Ops prevents me from praising 343i because Halo has been plagued by this going back and forth notion. I mean, you can have that 10 seconds of fun and have repetition throughout new expansive areas never explored. But 10 seconds of fun repeating through the same watered down locations drains the strength of Spartan Ops.
We need new locations and new fights to keep Halo fans coming back for more.
Anyone else agree?

That might actually be a great idea.
I love spartan ops. But i too have a few gripes or recommendations that would improve it.

Lack of score has really crippled the re-playability. Without scoring there is no real reason to go back and beat a friends high score.

Infinity lives, this really takes a sense of accomplishment away from the overall experience. In halo 3 odst and reach, firefight gave you’re group a limited amount of lives. This made you extra careful on legendary, and made for more intense game play. Having custom firefight set ups and only so many lives were some of my best memories of Reach, with a social non competitive group of friends. I miss this now.

The story that goes along with it, is not what i had expected. I had assumed that it would be a story in engine as with Reach. Where you and you’re friends Spartans are rendered in the cutscene the same was noble 6 was in Reach. This would have been more engaging seeing your own kitted out spartan 4 talking to Sarah Palmer, Lasky etc, rather than pre made CGI cutscenes focusing on another squad of Spartans working parallel with you’re squad… That just doesn’t make sense to me. It worked in reach, it should have been used here.
Thoughts?
