Spartan Ops is a joke....

the 5 missions we get each week are really embarrassing. It’s not the generic map local or button pressing. I’m actually somewhat ok with that and understand that when you have a billion things on your plate it makes sense to draw from places you’ve already created. But the lack of story, combined with characters who recite poorly written dialogue on top of the fact that YOU CANNOT LOSE make it extremely annoying to play.

The episodes in general feel like they’re really fillers for the cutscene we get each week. I think those in general are well done even if Majestic is a team I do not care about. What they should have done was taken a page from ODST and Reach and made your character a nameless rookie and focus on his/her interaction with the members of Crimson squad. The only problem I see with that is having to make it so each week to week cutscene renders your individual spartan IV into the CGI. That’s tricky, but I could have done without it. Instead of an emphasis on the visual, make the cutscene Reach quality where my Spartan IV can be reflected. Give me a steady cast of Spartan’s in my squad that are on the ground with me each mission. Balance it so it doesn’t matter if there’s another 3 players playing with me. You don’t even need to account for them or even acknowledge they exist… (they never do in the Co-Op campaign in any Halo series with the exception of 3…)

Overall it’s generic crap that’s shoved down our throats. I play it each week because I enjoy the small tidbits of where the story is going, however few and far between they are. But it’s a struggle every time because they can do much better. I’m not claiming Halo to be the greatest piece of science fiction ever written, but I do enjoy the story and read a couple of the books. Spartan Ops is an insult to every writer they’ve hired in the past to flush out their universe.

The missions are bland. There’s no sense of accomplishment and you literally cannot fail. Tossing Elites and grunts with Fuel Rods and Snipers everywhere does not create a challenge, only a minor frustration. It just feels like a lot of wasted potential…

I know this is just another complaint thread, but it’s a little terrifying to see how many people defend things like this and try to argue that 343 is beyond reproach for their mistakes.

Besides the XP farm can anyone honestly say they value Spartan Ops? Anyone over the age of 16 that has seen each weekly cliche that has been done 100x over and also better?

agreed, throwing a bunch of enemies at us in the same maps doesn’t offer me a reason to come back.

The amount of missions doesn’t seem to add value to the game it just seems to dilute the experience and make it more forgettable.

I really hope they add firefight through an update. maybe with some forging.
If not that, then give us new maps tailored to the experience such as a sniping covert mission, a warthog run like that in THE MAW or a better more varied pelican battle. pushing buttons happens so often it should be a sin to put it in halo 5

with regards to firefight it seems with each new episode they are trying to bring back that Firefight nostalgia into the missions. Chapter 5 of Episode 4 especially made me feel this way, with wave after wave of covenant forces being deployed by dropships.

But wave after wave of enemies isn’t what made firefight fun. It was the fact that eventually you will run out of lives and fail. Their is no risk in Spartan Ops. Fighting wave after wave of enemies is annoying if there’s no penalty for death.

I honestly feel like Firefight was the honors program and Spartan Ops has become the Special Ed program of Halo.
