Spartan Ops: Expanded Universe missions

By now we’ve all got a pretty good idea on what Spartan Ops is, an extension of the Halo 4 story with new missions appearing every week. This sounds great to me, but I was thinking, it could be better. I don’t know how often 343 plans to support Spartan Ops, but when or if they do, perhaps they could dig into the Expanded Universe of Halo for new missions?

There is plenty to work with and they could fit in the story as “strategic simulations” or whatever.

Think about where 343 could draw from

The Fall of Reach
Battle of Jericho VII (The Fall of Reach)
Battle of Sigma Octanus IV (The Fall of Reach)
Battle of Reach (The Fall of Reach) [The REAL Battle of Reach]

First Strike
Raid on the Ascendant Justice (First Strike)
Raid of Reach (First Strike)
Battle at the Unyielding Hierophant (First Strike)

Ghosts of Onyx
Blue Teams Earth Missions (Ghosts of Onyx)
Battle of Onyx (Ghosts of Onyx)

That’s just a short list of what I can think of. If not for Spartan Ops in Halo 4, I really think 343 should try this out in Halo 5 or Halo 6.

A well made thread, yeah I think these would do perfectly for a special branch of Spartan Ops missions that let’s you play out some the epic battles of Halo descirbed in the H-books!

Why stop there?

Headhunters

Heart of the Micholodian (probs spelt wrong)

Halo Legends missions (the good ones)

But I would also like to see some fresh ideas too and some proper horror missions as I have recently got into horror games (thanks to SCP).

I hope we get to see Hasley or something, I’ve always felt the games, books and live action stuff are all in separate universe.

Bungie and 343 clashed over Reach. And then again over Legends (which was mostly -Yoink-). However now with only one company owning Halo, the universe should be stable once more.

Something you missed before the fall of reach, and its

Just yes! That section of TFoR was easily my favorite, and could be a very interesting spartan ops mission.

another excellent Idea OP.

I would love to see those and original missions thrown in to Spartan ops.

Why do we have to got back? We’ve been doing it since 2007!?! I want to advance past H3, I’ve read about Reach, I’ve battled on Reach, I’ve battled on Earth. I want to go somewhere new, fight something different, and use cool and exciting new vehicles and weapons.

Um…Halo 4?

I was hoping Spartan Ops would leave Requiem.

An SO: Historic Battles season?

I suppose it could work but with the synapse being that SO takes place about 4-6 months after Halo4, playing previous battles seems a little in the wrong direction of SO actually expanding the universe.

The best thing is, it can be explained how we are able to play them since we can do them in the simulation deck like we do for War Games.

I can’t see it working for 4 now, but as an addition to the future games, or even DLC it could work. If it was DLC, because of the nature of the missions being mainly Spartan II ops, they could just force a Spartan II character model with no customisation and allow 4 players to go through those.

Though I support the idea in general, Halo Legends missions wouldn’t work. In The Babysitter, there’s only one Spartan… basically fighting a bunch of Grunts and one Brute Chieftain. In Prototype, all four players would have to don the Prototype armor, which wouldn’t work well (to balance out, they’d have to be fighting so many Covenant that frame rate would be shot to hell. Odd One Out not an option for obvious reasons. Homecoming would be a short mission basically involving just Grunts and Drones… oh yeah, and a last stand against a massive amount of Covenant (see comment on frame rate, above).

The Package MIGHT work, but only if 343 reintroduced dual-wielding and added space battles, midair flips, and SLOW MOTION HALF OF THE TIME. Oh yeah, and it’d basically be a corridor mission, which works well in a movie but not so well in gameplay.

I’d like to see favorite missions from previous Halo games return, but altered - basically using the scenario but changing it greatly with the explanation of "VR simulation). For example, Tip of the Spear, now with more Scarabs. The Covenant (that level can remain unchanged, it was great). NMPD HQ, now with aerial battles and platforming akin to the middle section of Exodus. Gravemind, shortened (but keep the battle in the Mausoleum).

Off-topic: Wouldn’t a Halo Legends 2 be great?

Why do we need to back on these things? It’s been done once, let’s expand the universe, not shrink down and recap.

Yes, exactly. This game is Halo 4. Why do we then need to back into events that are NOT in Halo 4…?
