Spartan Ops Ending Loopholes SPOILERS

So Spartan Ops comes to an end. Sobs. Was pretty epic (especially chapter 3) but there are some loopholes in the plot I found, some more glaring than others.

1.If deactivating the two artifacts will free Infinity from Requiem, then why didn’t the Infinity send more reinforcements to assist Crimson and Majestic? Maybe Lasky was trying to minimise the loss of his crew but… since it’s a “make or break” mission then why risk it? But that’s a pretty small loophole IMO.

2.Why would Jul destroy Requiem??? I never seem to get this part. Firstly, how did he convince all of his Elites and soldiers that the imminent destruction of Requiem is justified? Although Jul isn’t a zealot of the Covenant religion unlike his army, but how did he manage to persuade all of them to follow his stand? And did he take all the Knights with him? Because Requiem provides Jul with an immense military force of Promethean bots. And destroying a Forerunner planet just to get rid of a supposedly overrated UNSC ship… isit worth it?

  1. So suppose his destruction plan for Requiem is justified. But why would he want to destroy Infinity? 1 good reason he should not, is that he knows that the other half of the Janus Key is STILL IN THE HANDS OF HUMANS IN THE INFINITY. Why would he let Infinity get destroyed when he knows the other half of the key is still inside? Why didn’t he order a snatch and grab again? And it’s not like he didn’t know about the other half; he was reminding halsey that she passed the other half to Thorne. And the main purpose of his stay in Requiem is to unlock Forerunner tech, starships, etc, which the Key is the culmination of. So…why?

Just my opinion though. Figured out that canon is pretty darn important, sometimes more important than a certain overpowered marksman rifle or an overpowered Forerunner particle dilator. IMO, the storytelling of Halo is the most important.

I don’t think he knew the other half was aboard the Infinity until after he fled the planet, and then Halsey told him.

> I don’t think he knew the other half was aboard the Infinity until after he fled the planet, and then Halsey told him.

But I thought he saw her throw the other half of the Janus key to Thorne?

To be honest, Spartan Ops doesn’t seem to be put together very well. If I recall, it was Chapter 5 of Episode 8 when Majestic was just reaching Spartan Thorne and Glassman’s location, but by the time Crimson was attacking the forerunner stucture during “Glassman” Dr. Glassman was fine, and hacking terminals (presumably with a broken forearm).

So with that in mind, I just assume the writers aren’t getting their -Yoink- together.

True…maybe he thought It could operate with one half?

or… right after Jul took the one half…Halsey was like hiding the other…maybe with all the commotion going on at the time Jul didn’t know what Halsey was doing when she threw it? lol, Idunno tbh :stuck_out_tongue:

And yeah…some of the writing is a little weird; Still fun tho…

In the books Jul isn’t exactly the most zealous. He probably understands that requiem isn’t the most important artifact that the forerunner left behind. He was only there to get the didact to give him the upper hand.

Your right about the key though he should have though twice about letting infinity burn with requiem. But then again he isn’t the smartest sanghili.

I want to see the arbiter and half jaw teamed with the unsc tracking them down. Hopefully the find the spirit of fire while looking for that planet with all the forerunner ships.

Oh and Halsey is officially evil. You can’t have a robot arm and a doctorate without being evil. She is going to be like Darth Vader soon, more machine than women now.

  1. Probably minimizing the loss of crew. Or Palmer said more people, especially people other than Spartans, would just get in their way and slow them down. So it might be to speed the mission up and prevent other casualties.

  2. Jul was done with Requiem. They got what they wanted, the Key. So, to prevent the humans from taking anymore Forerunner treasures from their God’s world. Infinity being stuck was a bonus.
And as for his command, he was the Didact’s Hand. He arrived through a Forerunner Portal on the Storm Covenant’s word about 4 years ago, with a belt that had the coordinates to the Didact’s home. For all they knew, the religious fanatics the Storm Covenant is, Jul M’dama was chosen by the Didact.
And we don’t know much about the Prometheans. If they need a nearby power source or some kind of teleportation grid. The only reason they got on Infinity is because the Artifact was there, probably acting as a teleportation network for the Prometheans. The Prometheans wouldn’t be able to do much on a Covenant ship, besides Jul needing room for his actual followers.

  3. Actually, he didn’t know. When Halsey came out holding the two parts of the key, he caught her by her left hand and took that key. He didn’t see the other in the other hand, and there was too much commotion when she threw it. He only realized it was incomplete when Halsey told him after they escaped.
And the Key was supposed to unlock all resources in the galaxy. Requiem would be pretty small compared to everything else. If there was a fleet or super weapon on Requiem, he would have found it by now. He didn’t need Requiem anymore.

yeah, yeah!That’s what I thought ^.^

Well it certainly didn’t speed things up. If Infinity could devote more resources, Crimson could have retrieved the power source from the Lich much more efficiently. Infinity could have sent its Charon class sub vessels as heavy artillery, so Dalton’s Pelican wouldn’t face anti-air fire and can transport Crimson straight to Apex, instead of going through Warrens. And the rendezvous with Forest Team is non-initiated and not planned, so imagine if Forest isn’t there to assist Crimson. Still think Lasky shouldn’t risk it.

Jul couldn’t be done with Requiem. He still lacks the other half, and he knows it. Either that or it took him quite awhile to figure out what Halsey passed to Thorne. Halsey shouted “Thorne” so loudly that even Avery Johnson could hear her up there. And even if Jul assumed he had the entire Janus Key, why didn’t he find it weird when he couldn’t access any maps or anything? Surely he would have tried to get data out of the key, but with no avail since it’s only half of it. I agree on destroying Requiem from letting it get used by Humans, but his job wasn’t clean. And clearly he commandered and led the assault on Infinity, even the Promethean forces, so the Prometheans are sentient enough to be used as soldiers, not occasional cannon fodder or reinforcements.

The very fact that his goal of recovering the key to unlock the “treasures” isn’t achieved, questions why he destroyed Requiem. Perhaps he isn’t very wise, as some of you had mentioned.

Or to provide a valid point to topple my own argument, maybe the Didact told him beforehand to destroy Requiem before he departed for Earth. Maybe that’s why there’s a floating Didact symbol in the Exodus episode when he activated the console in The Cauldron.

Keep it going guys, this is most interesting.

I have just two questions:

Why has Halsey lost her arm and we is she suddenly evil?

OH I DONT KNOW, maybe because the UNSC Shot her, treated like -Yoink-, and placed the entire blame on her for the spartan program…

> I have just two questions:
>
> Why has Halsey lost her arm and we is she suddenly evil?

because the UNSC tried to Assassinate her, and the covenant, that she betrayed, shown her more loyalty

Traditional woman, the UNSC shot her because they’re -Yoinks!-, she betrayed them because she was confused.

ONI*

For the lack of reinforcements, on the 4th chapter you take some ammo and a mantis from downed Pelicans, maybe they were the reinforcements?

As to Halsey being evil, ONI pushed her around for a long time and the UNSC tried to assassinate her. She can finally get revenge on ONI (Parangosky is believed to be dead) so she’ll go for Osman which is just as good a target. I reckon it will come to a Darth Vader style ending for her though, maybe seeing the Chief will make her stop?

Looking forward to the future of this story.

> because the UNSC tried to Assassinate her, and the covenant, that she betrayed, shown her more loyalty

Not more loyalty, but a better deal. As much as I would like to write Halsey off as Evil, I feel like this is simply a ploy for self-survival. Jul wants revenge, Halsey wants “Revenge” they become allies, until she can scamper off with the other key and do her science thing. Though I’m not sure how much luck she’ll have as a fugitive with a bounty on her head.
