Spartan OPS Download?

Seriously? First you make the multi-player on a seperate disc that we have to download, which is over 1GB, and now Spartan OPS 6-10 is over 1GB. How much room do you plan on taking up on my hard drive? I DO like to play other games 343…

Its only 2gb. Thats nothing with todays games. I mean seriously if you dont have enough space for a few gigs of data these days, you are far behind the times.

i know right. what a joke. all games are doing this now. here buy our product for over $60 and lets use up as much HDD space as we can. oh and by the way. all dlc and extras are on disc #2, but you cant accesss (what you purchased) unless you buy it seperately. and when thats all said and done, guess what…no dedicated servers. which means…you guessed it… were going to use whoever has the best connection in the room. as a server. this is getting outta hand. whats the point of spending all this money if in the long run, you need US (the consumer) for the product to even function properly let alone actually work properly.

like battlefield 3. i love that game to death but i mean im already at 22.5GB of HDD space taken up because of (NEED TO HAVE) update and maps. and outta a 60gb hdd, well thats almost half of it already.

either these game companies need to start payin or sending out HDD with their products. on the inside of the game box, just include a 8-16gb drive. wouldnt cost anything to you guys (DEVS).

i mean after all you’re taking all our money and not really giving us anything back in return.

Have you seen how many gigs BF3 is?

If you are having trouble storing everything you should probably buy a new hard drive, they are not that expensive.

> Its only 2gb. Thats nothing with todays games. I mean seriously if you dont have enough space for a few gigs of data these days, you are far behind the times.

far behind times why? cause we dont cower to the fact that we have to buy a console every year? i still have both my original 360s (from over 6 years ago) 20gb and 60gb. and i have barely any room on either. ive used seprerate removable (PC) sata drives and reserved 32gbs on those. i mean how much more space are we going to need. i have all the newest games, its just i have to remove, move or delete info if i want to play these games. and i for one am not going to go out and buy bigger HDD or a new system when another one is one the way, yet again, (Xbox Durango w/500+GB HDD) in the fall.

bottom line. these guys need to make bugger discs to put these games on or send out lil flash HDDs to people. we already pay for the game, for live, for online passes, dlcs, extra, shortcut kits (you can unlock via game/ranking up)

so the least they can do is say. “hey sorry we made a game bigger then we expected, heres a 8gb jump drive to help, thank you for being such a great customer and keeping our business alive and making sure everyone here still has a job!”

Apart from extra content like maps, extra campaign missions and fixes. Yeah the devs are really giving us NOTHING in return right? Just delete things you don’t use or plug in a usb memory stick and backup some stuff…or you can you cloud storage (i don’t) but that should free up some memory.

It’s really not a big deal. You should be thankful for getting a bunch of content for your $60. A lot of other games have that same price tag but much less content.

You can’t make DVDs any bigger than 8gb’s, unless the next xbox supports blu-ray (which I think is 50GB on dual layer disc) this is going to be a continuing trend. But even then when extra content that isn’t on disc is released we are going to have the same trouble I think.

I think it would be better to have the game on a locked usb drive instead to load up the game so you don’t have to waste space on your primary hard drive.

Also how the hell do games like skyrim only take up 3GB and have a whole world to explore? surely other developers should be taking lessons from bethesda in terms of this. They must do the old web design trick where you re use certain elements to save space.

And couldn’t the patches and updates that are over 1GB be zipped up for download and unzipped when the download is complete? I mean it could speed up downloads for those with slow connections (like myself) and make downloads even faster for those with super hi speed connections.

Wow @ some of the responses. If you are to cheap or lazy to go to a store and buy a memory stick or HDD or even a larger capacity HDD thats your fault. Storage solutions are extremely cheap these days. You can get a larger capacity HDD for less than the cost the game. There is no excuse for not having one. If you can afford to “game”, you can afford storage.

I myself have a 120gb Elite I bought nearly 4 years ago, its still got PLENTY of spare space on it. If I ever need more space I will simply delete data I am not needing. All the arcade games and DLC’s I bought are tied to my account, they are not going anywhere. They are mines for the lifetime of my account. So I can safely and easily delete them and if I want download them again at a later date.

My crappy mobile has 3gb of storage, and its not even a smart phone. If you dont have storage these days its down to you. Almost all technology these days has storage solutions of one kind or another. Tablets, phones, consoles, TV’s, dvd players, TIVO, bluray players, digital camera’s etc etc.

And developers are not going to start bundling hardware with its titles as standard just to satisfy a minority. Sure some games have come with mem sticks for CE/LE variants, but those cost extra money and thats part of what you get for paying more. So if you expect storage with a game, you should expect to pay more for the game in the first place.

So TLDR; Its your fault you dont have space for it. Developers are using what is considered “standard” hardware for the console. If you dont have storage, go get some yourself.

Geez, some of these replies just make me want to bang my head against a wall. Maybe some people don’t have the disposable income to increase their storage? Maybe they don’t want to spend money on a new harddrive when the next generation of consoles is on the horizon? It isn’t about being cheap or lazy.

Halo 4 has taken up so much space on my 20GB hardrive and I’m at about 1.7GB now. With the new maps coming out next month I’m going to have to delete more things to make space. I could go buy a USB, but me and my friends have not had good experiences with them.

If you have enough disposable income to buy a games console and games for it, you can afford storage of some kind. Hell you can get an 8gb USB mem stick for £3. There is no excuse for not having storage.

So what if new systems are around the corner. They are not here NOW and wont be till year end. And even then will not be “affordable” solutions, so the money argument is nonsense for holding back now. And I hardly think buying a £3 mem stick is going to break the bank, or be useless for anything else in the future.

So yes it IS about being cheap or lazy.

Cant afford it> nonsense excuse as shown above
Newer tech "soon"™ > current storage still compatible with new tech

Making bigger discs has already been in the works once.

Fact is, if we wanna avoid having to install, we need Blu-Ray.

The new Xbox is ‘‘RUMORED’’ to have Blu-ray. Now i expect it to be true because it would be a step in the right direction improving the Xbox overall.

Just buy one of the 250GB harddrives on the market. It exists for both the original and slim model 360s.

I can’t even play them because I have a 4GB Xbox. So to play War Games I have to delete spartan ops.

Damn, never thought I’d see the day when people would be complaining about having too much free content…

> Damn, never thought I’d see the day when people would be complaining about having too much free content…

I really, really hate to admit it, but this guy is right.

You could buy cheap memory sticks or you could just delete seaons after you are done playing them.

There are 8gb memory cards you know, people could also use those if you need.

Seriously, you can not expect those of us who can afford to update our Hard Drives and use a little memory for new content to suffer because others can not or will not buy a cheap larger Hard Drive to store information. I have a 250GB hard drive and I am still at 185GB, after 4 years of using it, its time to advance your technology I would say if you are still using a 4 GB or 20 GB hard drive.

We were already told the content would need to be downloaded and streamed like DLC, it is obvious because it is not on the disc. Also we needed 2 disc’s for Halo 4 because both disc’s were completely maxed out and totaled up to 16 GB. Instead of making us switch discs back and forth they gave us the option to use just one disc full time, you should be thanking them.

Spartan Op’s is free content, and your here complaining about it taking up a small amount of memory on your hard drive… -Yoink- seriously.

Next Gen Consoles will use Blu Ray which can store loads of information and memory about 50 GB, so if you feel you just can not handle it, wait until they are released, your choice.

I did find the download to be stupid. The first five were already there so I found the need to download 6-10 stupid.

> I did find the download to be stupid. The first five were already there so I found the need to download 6-10 stupid.

1-5 are on disc. 6-10 requies additional dialogue, animations, level desgins etc that were not finished as part of the disc content. How else would you be able to get them?

> Spartan Op’s is free content, and your here complaining about it taking up a small amount of memory on your hard drive… Yoink! seriously.

  1. For some people it isn’t a “small” amount of space.

  2. I think Spartan Ops being a memory hog is a fair criticism.

No doubt this can be addressed with USBs and such, but the amount of self-righteousness I see directed at the OP because he dared bring up an issue that annoyed him is nauseating

first of all, 343 already told you how much free space you would need before the game came out. that was including the later things you would have to download, for spartan ops and stuff.
second, you should be happy you have to download more. if you didn’t than spartan ops 6-10 would just more reused and copy-pasted stuff that’s already in the game.
