I just finished the Halo 4 campaign. It was amazing. I loved every minute of it.
It’s the highest quality game I’ve played in a long while. The graphical fidelity is unparallelled. 343i sparred no expense and their talent really shows…
…on the disc.
I just booted up Spartan Ops and hit play on the first episode. It looks like total crap. Everything on the disc looks and sounds amazing, but for some reason the Terminal videos and the Spartan Ops Episode videos stream and look absolutely terrible. It was bad enough that the Forward Unto Dawn extended cut I purchased the Limited Edition for has the same problem, but that was an extra. It should have been a pack in DVD, but it wasn’t even a digital download. But Spartan Ops is a part of the actual game. It shouldn’t stream if it looks that bad.
I’m sure there are many reading this and don’t know what I’m talking about. Well, I don’t have as fast of an internet connection as those lucky speed demons.
Look how terrible that looks. How can MS, 343i and Waypoint allow the flagship franchise of the Xbox brand to display such terrible visual fidelity. 343i did such a great job rendering the CGI, but I can’t enjoy it as it was intended to be.
As far as I am aware there is nothing I can do about this other than complain. Does anyone know any contact information so that I can make a formal complaint?
All 343i has to do to fix this is allow for the videos to be downloaded in full HD to be played off the hard disc rather than streamed over the internet. It should at least be an option and there is no excuse I will accept for the omission.
Who else thinks the videos should be installed to the hard drive?
I’m a huge Halo fan and I think 343i did a fantastic job. But this can not stand. We fans with slow internet speeds deserve consideration.
Sorry your Internet causes a bandwidth throttle to the video quality mate.
You can see the SPOPS trailers on the MS press site as downloads. Maybe you could request the actual SPOPS videos get posted there in high resolution glory.
Otherwise I’d say you’ll have to get a mate to capture/provide an non-streaming download. Maybe some P2P or torrent sites are your best bet to get those HD downloads too.

It does suck and I can’t upgrade without moving.
Nobody should be forced to torrent the content that should be on the disc or at least DLC. I shouldn’t be forced to hunt the internet just to see HD Halo 4 cutscenes I paid for when I bought the game. I paid for the the limited edition by the way. Nice box, bad streaming videos.
Are they putting gun to your head and ordering you to torrent this stuff?
What you have is a personal problem between your connection and those you connect with. Watch youtube at 1080p . He problem may even be your Xbox or tv or both. I get hd even when my wireless acts up.
As for spartan ops looks pretty hd to me. Not as good as solo but better than reach. It’s not even close to crap when it’s better than most current gen games cutscenes.

If his internet is poor, watching YouTube will change nothing as it utilizes the same connection…
I feel for you bud, the Spartan Ops CGI is stellar, as you know from playing campaign, and I would support the option to download it to your harddrive through the marketplace or waypoint or something
Problem is that it buffers in real time and slowly ups the graphics quality as your buffering exceeds your playing speed. That’s nice if you have fast internet. If not. You are forced to see low quality video as that is the only way you can see the video and buffer it at the same time. Mine is low quality for about the first 30 seconds then kicks into high def, but not everyone is as fortunate.
Flawed idea.
It should load completely first, then play. I trust that people with slower connections would not mind the wait.

Yes. You understand the problem perfectly.
It’s is a monumentally flawed idea. Not only do you have to be online to watch a pre-rendered cutscene, but you can’t even preload it in HD.
I’d be happier if I could preload the video, but I’d be happiest if I could download each episode and play them off my hard drive.
> Don’t blame 343i/Microsoft for your own bad connection please.
All I’m asking for is for the option to download the videos to my Xbox 360 so they will play off the hard drive instead of over the internet.
Is that really so much to ask for?
It’s not my fault that my internet connection sucks, but I should still have access to the content I paid for. There is nothing I can do about my internet connection speed, but 343i could patch the game to add a download or preload option.
Oh wait, I already have the fastest internet connection available in my area.
I’m not the only one. There are millions of Halo fans around the world who are limited to very low quality streaming videos. All 343i would need to do is let users preload or download.
The bonus of downloaded video files would be offline viewing.
The first picture shows a 1080p video in high quality. The second picture shows what I get when I watch the video, low resolution and heavily compressed low quality.
If these screen shots look to have the same quality to you then I highly recommend that you see an ophthalmologist pronto.
Leave the dude alone people… I can’t believe you’re all here telling him to get a better internet. He is simply asking for downloads to these videos. Some places (and he already stated this) can’t even get decent internet. Some other my not have the financial resources for fast internet. If any of you are little kids with rich parents just leave now. We paid for the game and it is kinda crappy that 343 would give us these videos as a stream and not a download. I understand that streaming is fast but as you guys and gals can see… It sucks for people with bad internet.
YouTube would solve the problem. Look up the cutscene and just allow the video to load all the way so it never has to buffer. Problem solved.
> Doesn’t anyone know any way to send my complaint to 343i?
>
> I think they should know that there are people who can’t enjoy their hard work.
You basically just did. They check the forums regularly. There honestly isn’t anything they can do short of letting the video load fully first, then letting it play.
Other than that, nothing can be done because of your internet.
Sounds like a personal problem, mate. Youtube will solve your problem. I’ve had no issues with this, and I assume from the lack of heavy complaints, that others do not either.
