One of my concerns about Spartan Ops is that it’s hard for me to believe 343 is going to invest the resources needed to produce interesting maps and missions on a weekly basis unless, God forbid, they use some kind of forge system to generate a lot of marginally different maps. Does anyone have any idea what we can really expect from this? Apparently COD has a concept similar to this. What’s it like in COD?
How will Spartan Ops missions be different than co-op online campaign missions in terms of replayability? I thought co-op online campaign would be very cool before Reach came out, but then I realized after playing it it was just a run-and-gun free-for-all with no teamwork or coordination at all. Why would Spartan Ops be different in this respect? In case you can’t tell, I have serious concerns about Spartan Ops as a replacement for Firefight. I never play co-op online campaign, but I play a lot of Firefight. If Spartan Ops turns out to be an episodic version of co-op online campaign I’m going to be very disappointed in Halo 4.
Taking into consideration that 343 has a very diverse team, that can work on many different projects at once. Also that they are in the late production phase of the game (given that many of the components are finished, but just need some polish). I think that Spartan Ops will have all the room and resources it needs in this production cycle.
As for the Call of Duty “SpecOps”. They are either levels taken straight from the campaign and match making maps, or a couple that are created just for “SpecOps”.
Pretty much all you do on these maps are survive waves of enemies, or complete a goal.
That goal ranges from stealth missions, data theft, or sweep and clear missions. A few others too.
All in all I found that all of the missions were rather forgettable, but still decently fun to play with my friends. I hope more could be said about SpartanOps when it comes out.
Considering it runs over seasons, i’d say it is gonna be a kick-*** campaign.
for the Last Damn time Spartan Ops is completly different to CODs Spec ops.
How about that damn co-op lag in Reach? Better not be in Halo 4 or 343’s gonna get some serious hate.

Relax man, at least they are doing something. Its free and they have a branched off team to mainly focus on it. It’ll be great.

Ever heard of certain affinity? They most likely have a large enough team to have two or more projects. Most times projects like this would have a few teams working at the same time, each team will work on a project, and then when it’s done, they’ll pick up another. You can have projects started and ended on staggering times. The guys who are working on Star Trek online, and it’s “Featured Episodes” which, are a similar feature/idea that Spartan Ops is.
> they use some kind of forge system to generate a lot of marginally different maps
They most likely use the most updated version of the Map Editing Kid for the Halo Engine, similar to Halo Custom Edition’s and Halo 2 Vista’s. And I’ve watched campaign like mission start as an idea, and then a week later have it a working beta build. And that was done by one or two dude(s) doing this in their spare time. Imagine what a small team of seasoned game designers can do. You under estimate the abilities of 343i and their Halo friends.

COD has spec Ops, which is a concept under the same basic idea, but the main difference is. COD’s version isn’t DLC like, campaign like missions, they’re challenge missions, like kill so many of these enemies, drive down this hill, and jump this canyon and make it to this point in so much time.
I’m sure they won’t half -Yoink- it.
Last time i checked firefight is boring and Spartan ops is an addition to the story that will give you incentive to replay by introducing more missions as time goes on. I haven’t played Spartan ops but I doubt it could be more boring than firefight.
