Spartan Ops 5-4

Just wondering after playing through last week why the matchmaking has Hogs, but anything outside of that has Mantises available to use.

Not a single word about this?

Just noticed this. I personally think, this depends on the number of players, but I did not tested it yet.

I just can say, I played it Solo Legendary, there was a Mantis. I played it matchmaking with one oher friend (means two people in total), still Mantis. Three and four players is Warthogs, I think. At least I can confirm, in matchmaking 3 and 4 people let Warthogs appear.

I will test this soon, I’m curious about this too. I’ll let you know it then.

I have done this solo & co-op with 1 other person both on legendary & there was never a warthog just lots of Mantis’

If there’s one or two people, two Mantises spawn on Cauldron Base, and another two at the actual base.
If there’s three or four people, the Warthogs spawn, two gunners and two gauss.

Obviously, it’s easier with the Mantises.

I don’t know. Two well-positioned Gauss hogs and the other two people mopping up stragglers worked perfectly on legendary. One reactor was completely undamaged, and the other just damaged enough for its health bar not to be a completely unbroken circle anymore. Besides, two Gauss hogs can take out a Phantom quicker than two Mantises, often quickly enough to destroy it before troops are deployed.

If the number of players at the start of the game is less than three, you will find two Mantises in front of your spawn, as well as two others by the reactors. If you are three are four players, both a default Warthog and a Gauss Warthog will be in front of your spawn, and just like the Mantises, two other Warthogs will be near the reactors.

That kinda blows…

The Mantis is a far better equalizer for that mission no matter what the excuse is for not having one default vehicle for the mission. It doesnt help that the Warthogs are just massive liabilities all around at the time time, as they are mostly useless when you get to the generators.

It makes sense, though. If you have more than 2 people, then at least one of them has to walk all the way to the reactors, and if you have four people, then there would be no extra mantises. The warthogs work because there can be two gunners and two drivers.

You could easily complete the mission solo with a Mantis, but four Mantis’ would just be a cluster you-know-what on that map.

With a little planning that wouldnt be half as bad as you think. Two people watching the generators up close with 2 more watching from below or above to work the spawns.

Always wondered this myself.
