"Spartan" Miller

Does anyone else feel like miller doesn’t qualify as a “Spartan”?

I’ll decide that when he gets out onto the field

> I’ll decide that when he gets out onto the field

So, never? :expressionless:

I don’t think any of these “new spartans” qualify to be called the same thing as the Master Chief. They weren’t trained from when they were only children. They weren’t “bred and born for war” like the Master Chief.

343 went soft on it too by not having Halsey straight up say they aren’t really spartans like the Master Chief. But I don’t get why 343 insists on having Halsey around so much. I mean she’s kind of a pre- Halo CE character in my opinion. The chances of her living through Reach AND Earth being annihilated by the Covenant are slim to none. I think its cheesy she supposedly lived through it all somehow magically, when barely any spartans even made it, maybe only the Master Chief himself.

Its kind of like this Halo overall. Its called Halo, but its really not so much, just like those spartans are called spartans, but really aren’t so much.

Woot! A person who agrees. Yeah man, its freaking embarrassing to have all of these other “Spartans”. It piss me off how they are able to be called the same thing as Chief.

I don’t think even the Spartan IV’s would put themselves in the same category as MC.

The books from the original trilogy actually tell that story quite vividly. It’s not “magic”. She’s smart and always had those beast Spartans at her side when she was in a dangerous position. Read “the fall of reach”, “the flood”, “first strike” and “ghosts of onyx” it will fill in that bit of story for you and they’re awesome.

Have you read the books? They explain pretty much everything.

The only reason they exist is for “War Games” and “bridging the gap between campaign and multiplayer.” 343 is obsessed with integrating multiplayer into Halo fiction for some reason, which I think is stupid, so they’re hooked on the whole war games training simulation idea.

So in multiplayer we’re supposedly new spartans training. The only reason we’re new is to integrate the armor more than anything into the fiction. So we have to play as a “new” generation of spartans. But since the training simulation is on the Infinity and they couldn’t kidnap hundreds or thousands of kids, of course these “new” “spartans” couldn’t have been kidnapped.

And that is why we have that really, REALLY stupid story.

Meh, the books are kind of a side story in my opinion. I haven’t read them, but Halo’s story as far as I’m concerned is what’s in the games. And going by the story in the games, Halsey could live from Reach to 4… I’m just saying its the same as her winning the lottery and/or being hit by lightning. Its kind of cheesy honestly.

You obviously haven’t read the newest books, several of the original spartans made it to now. To think that Halsey has lived through all of this, is not improbable, but plausible. She was never on the front line. I don’t understand what you mean about halo either, its a deep and unique universe, that you clearly don’t truly appreciate.

Well then you’re going to have to read the books. They’re canon. Which is what 343 is SO obsessed with. Halsey wasn’t on the front lines. She’s a scientist.

The books aren’t side stories. They’re just as much a part of Halo canon as the games. Your opinion on the matter is of no consequence; they’re still canon.

As for Halsey not dying: it isn’t really that hard to believe. She’s not military personnel. She isn’t deployed into battle. Several military personnel survive the war, so why wouldn’t she?

Among others, Avery Johnson, Chips Dubbo, and Pete Stacker lasted throughout the entire war. Lord Hood, as well - and he was certainly a huge target.

They’re spartans nonetheless, it’s really a lot of honorable fans and Halsey who expect that the ones who had to go through the whole dirty process and are badasses who are real spartans. That basically saying a marine isn’t a soldier because he didn’t go through as much training as his fellow comrade ans has achieved as much. Besides, I bet if Master Chief understood what living a normal life was like, he would want that more than his current life. It’s actual human psychology to avoid greater pain.

I would argue the ENTIRE UNSC has to pull it’s collective head out of it’s you know what.

Del Rio, Palmer, Miller, Marines, the entire Majestic team… I don’t know what the 4 years the Chief was out of commission did to the military but the discipline and the heroes have gone out the airlock. Their arrogance is a bit off putting, for not really having taken part in the Covie/Human war ( the SIV’s at least ). Or for allowing a Forerunner to Compose and entire city on Earth.

Maybe that is sort of the point, we lost all the good leaders in the war and now new ones have to arise?

I like to call him a Desk Jockey Spartan. I do agree though, Spartan used to mean something, now it’s just on par with what the ODSTs were.

All the new spartans seem undisciplined, for any military rank, and the way they communicate with each other sounds like an after school special. “EGGHEADS!” Who says that? Or the way they are constantly cracking jokes in situations that are completely serious. Its like a group of adolescents that just discovered their reproductive organs.

Seems some folks missed the whole emphasis on humanity and what it means to be human during the campaign.

I don’t feel any of them are Spartans. Spartan V’s arnt psychologically augmentated…

> I don’t feel any of them are Spartans. Spartan V’s arnt psychologically augmentated…

Spartan IVs are pathetic. They die way to easily in campaign, and just seem like the marines that followed you around in H3/Reach

they are too weak to be spartans.
