so this probably already exists or has been brought up but I can’t find it when I search so here goes why does the UNSC train Spartans for desk jobs? Now I know most of the internet don’t count them as ODST’s let alone spartans but please don’t start that up but does anyone find it weird that the UNSC would pay the weight of a battle group for Spartans to be handlers? Has High Com lost its mind? Also the only reason I bring this up is because I’ve been replaying Spartan ops and remembering why I loved it
With the success of the spartan IIs (the best) and Spartan IIIs (da next best). The UNSC saw fit to Continue the spartan project. After all the technique for creating super soldier from it’s time of inception. S4s have become easier to reproduce, but mainly cheaper, so more for a space $.
Why are the Marines that do desk jobs in the spartan IVs?
it been shown that the IV’s recruit from all branches in the UNSC military. only requirement is that they have basic training. theyre also considered their own branch, so you would expect them to have the own support staff akin to the special activities group
Spartan Ray was from a Signals corp ( comms and technical support etc)
edit: in essence UNSC lowered the bar of admission to the program increasing their supply of volunteers vs genetically and psychologically compatible 6 y/o, or in the case of III’s war orphans with a natural hate for the enemy.
reading material of interest; initiation, escalation and exert from infinity spartan hand book.
there is no debate at which is better just the ethics of how they were created.
Well see though signals is actually a skill I was considering the job and it is much more work than you make it out to be, it is a skill handling is not and I’m not saying the 4s are expensive their armour is and I just find it way too expensive to pay for a Spartan who doesn’t do anything, MJOLNIR and all also the navy doesn’t train SEALS to then have them handle other SEALS do they now? I mean along those lines I would understand training non Spartans to handle Spartans that makes sense they can negotiate with super soldiers with training and it’ll be cheaper. Lastly I don’t mean which is better skill experience wise I mean personal opinion why do you hate them best II’s beat them hands down.

Well the Infinity doesn’t deploy all its spartans externally at any one time. Some would also probably be assigned positions inside the ship in case it is boarded while other teams are away. assuming miller is good at his job of managing I see no reason that he shouldn’t be kept back to manage teams in the field while also providing added security for infinity.
Look at it like this- Say you were in command of a battalion of Army Rangers at a vital military base, you wouldnt deploy all of them at once to do limited ops in the area would you? No you would keep roughly half at the base to be a reaction force to combat any unexpected hostiles, and you would most likely keep the ones with a mind for commanding and communication there as well, right?
Same thing would apply to the Spartan IV’s. For example Kat in Halo: Reach was the tactical specialist for Noble team and while she was deployed to combat the majority of the time she hung back to direct the other members of Noble team.

No disservices to the the signals, I just boiled it down because they do so much. they are the ears and mouth of the army. just pointing out Spartans 4s recruit from all branch not just front line rifles, special force etc
The term handler, I assume its used because they dont have a typical Military rank structure. I used SAD as an example because this is a paramilitary organization that don’t use military ranks, same as Spartans branch that also recruit personnel from the military. the Spartans branch has a militarized organizational structure (kind of), training, subculture, and functions that are similar to those of a professional military, they are not what i would call included as part of a state’s forces that being theUSNC Army, Navy and Air force. That said Navy SEAL’s though trained by SEAL’s operate under their countries military command structure and would more likely report to NAVSOC or SOCOM… I think. miller may have some background in command seeing as his past experience is communication we can assume he spent his time in a command room relaying orders.
Miller wearing armor on the ships deck, Palmer also? Its a point of contention among fans, but from a military point of view the infinity is in a combat zone, I would expect all personnel in their respective fields to be combat ready. It could also be something as trivial as uniformity.
Its unclear to what extent spartan branch augments their personnel and gives armor to. its clear those in command role palmer, miller wear armor and those who are field operatives but all seem combat capable regardless of their military background. some of what SMG Shadowfax said could also be the case, though i partially disagree with comparing Kat with miller. Kat held rank of Lt.commander and would have received training in advanced tactics and command. This is what gave her the authrity to give orders noble 6 (a lieutenant), she specialized in intelligence, tactics was a byproduct of her training which she excelled do to expertise in Intel. more so she was a front soldier first and for most.
To your personal opinion Question on why i hate the spartan 4s: Personally i dont hate the spartan 4s. Any dislike is a product of there portrayal as i just wish 343 would flesh them out. i have a greater issue with the characterization of it’s commander, but that’s a whole other thread.
