Spartan Johnson?

What if Avery Johnson hadn’t been killed on the Ark? Would he be a Spartan-IV? He’s obviously more than qualified. Just as a theoretical question what variation of gen 2 mjolnir do you think he’d wear? Maybe he would even be Commander Avery Johnson, head of all Spartans aboard the UNSC infinity. The possibilities are endless

Johnson is already augmented as part of the original Orion Project, which makes him a Spartan-I. He was also in his late 60s, early 70s when he died on the Ark, so there is no telling if he could be augmented a second time in order to quality for MJOLNIR use.

I know he was part of the orion project, I also know it was mostly a failure and a lot of the augmentations failed or just didn’t have that great of an effect. And he was pretty old but remember a lot of that time was traveling in cryo sleep, so he was biologically much younger than 70. If he’s ever gotten any organs replaced due to injury (unknown) that would take even more years off because the new organ is obviously younger

Even though Johnson was apart of Orion I’m pretty sure he would be one of the first ones to sign up as a IV.

No. Way too old.

Remember all the time spent in cryo and also the slight augmentations from the orion project takimg years off his biological age and the fact that the spartan-IV augmentations make you physically way better than ever before and I say he’s not too old

Not quite. ORION was declared a failure because the augmentations were to expensive for the desired effects. Still massively promising though, and SPARTAN I operators were quite effective.

Ya, quite effective until their bodies started rejecting augmentation and dying horrible deaths. I think (I may be wrong) that Sgt Johnson was the only former orion member to even make it to the covenant war

That was due to inadequate genetic screening. The same would have happened to the IIs if Halsey didn’t learn from ORION.

As a genetic condition it only happened to some, others like Johnson had their lifespan increased. Almost half of the Spartan Is mentioned in the lore survived and had kids (I love bees) who were still youngish in 2552.

Considering that most S-IVs are taken from normal people and made into Spartans, Johnson most likely could have been further augmented.

Considering after thirty years of war (and a long service before then) he was still at the rank of Sergeant, I am going to say that no, he did not want to be a Spartan 4. Johnson strikes me as someone who just wants to be a Marine. Otherwise, if he wanted to be special forces, he may have wanted to join the ODST’s.

Actually, I am getting real sick and tired of the notion that EVERYONE wants to be a Spartan. I find it incredibly hard to believe there are no soldiers in the UNSC who want to remain soldiers.

Jun said the only person to ever turn down the chance to be a spartan was Buck, and he eventually changed his mind

He was a sergeant major

Well, he could have been stretching the truth to get Buck. I wouldn’t put it past him. But the point is that Johnson lived and breathed the Corps. He may have respected Spartans, but I doubt he would have wanted to leave the Marines for any reason.

What I mean is that he was still an NCO.

70% of the military are enlisted, and only a few who want to try to become officers. Both Chief, John, Buck, and most other are all Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (which is the highest an enlisted individual can rise), meaning that they are career military. Just as you say that no everyone wants to be a spartan, not everyone wants to be an officer either.

I understand that. That is what I am trying to say: since Johnson does not want to be an officer, he most likely does not want to be a Spartan either.

That’s not quite the way it works. Johnson was marine special operations, and a Spartan-I. He already is one.

Is this information found in contact harvest? I’m reading or about to start reading and am even more interested if so.

Yes, but he was a Spartan 1 who was still in the Marine Corps. In order to become a Spartan 4, he would have to leave the Marines and I just don’t see that happening with him. I know if I had a loyalty to the UNSC Marines, I wouldn’t want to be a Spartan 4.
