Spartan-IVs, ODSTs, and returning characters in Halo 4

From what I know about the Spartan-IV program, it will be using volunteers from the UNSCDF Marines. The ODST are an elite division of Marines most likely to be candidates for the program - ODSTs are sent on missions alongside Spartans and often on similar black-ops type missions.
I have little evidence for this except how cool it would be, but hear me out. Who would be better to lead a group of S-IVs than a known excellent leader and an ODST with one of the longest service records in the UNSC? I am talking about Gunnery Sergeant Buck.
How great would it be for John to be rescued by S-IVs or something (performing an unassisted drop, with Mjolnir Mk VII armor), and have their squad or platoon leader take off his helmet - and be Buck? John wouldn’t know him, so it would allow a reintroduction for players that haven’t played H3:ODST.

There were about 3 more ships so who knows

It’s an awesome idea, but probably not with Buck. I just don’t think they would do something like that. But as of now we have no idea what 343 plans to do,besides armor change and where it’ll take place,so anything can be put under speculation

Personally I’m not convinced that we need another set of Spartans when we’ve seen only two Spartan-IIs in the games and a handful of IIIs. But whatever, I suppose the difference between a Spartan-II or III and a Spartan-IV is simple, the IIs and IIIs have been raised as soldiers and know the limits of their augmentations through experience and time whereas the Spartan-IVs may be combat hardened soldiers but inexperienced with such advanced biological and technological changes. In short the Spartan-IVs won’t be as professional or reliable as a Spartan-II or III, but will have the technological edge with their presumably much more advanced Mjolnir.

I really hope that this distinction is shown, as it is obvious.

Had to think about it when you said there are 2 Spartans IIs in the games, lol (It’s Jorge by the way ppl)

I believe that Red Team from Halo Wars was also a Spartan 2 unit, but i’m just being a troll

Aha of course the Halo Wars S-IIs, I must admit I often forget that game even exists. What awful rubbish.

interesting theory, but as stated in a previous thread, normal humans are incapable of wearing any type of MJOLNIR armor. see: http://halo.xbox.com/Forums/yaf_postst43851_SPARTAN-IV-program-sounds-interesting.aspx

The implication is that normal humans would be given augmentations, which would be a natural progression from the Spartan-III augmentations thus allowing them to wear Mjolnir strength armor. Alternatively the technology for the latest Mjolnir might simply not tear its normal Human occupants to pieces. The closest we’ve seen this in Halo lore is the Mjolnir-esque suit in Prototype, that allowed a normal soldier to wear it.

Going with the topic of the ODSTs, instead of Buck, I think having the Rookie being the main Helljumper would be epic. Imagine having John and the Rookie fighting together against massive waves of enemies. Not only would it be a great duo because they are both strong, silent, and faceless soldiers, but also because their roles as the main protaganists of their games would mean that their fighting skills would be the most powerful. That would also allow for the Rookie’s story to progress, perhaps even allowing him to have his own AI to complement John and Cortana. I hope they do more with the Rookie, since I don’t think one game is enough. It would also allow for better two-player campaigns, or even two separate but connected campaigns, kind of like Halo: ODST’s switching story-lines.

This is all only if Halo 4 is within a few years of Halo 3.

Thoughts?

Sgt. Stacker as a main character please.

I imagine that S-IVs would be primarily made up of ODSTs. The remaining S-IIIs will become S-IVs.

That is still the #1 console rts game for a reason thank you. Please go to the Halo Wars forums and say that. Please don’t be an fps fanboy.

Bring back Buck, and by extension the awesomeness that is Nathan Fillion.

This too. That man is a badass, and the Chief’s right hand sergeant, in my opinion.

Make some story about how he didnt die and bring Johnson back…

I would rather see him reunite with Fred, Kelly, and Linda. Honestly that would be the ultimate 4 player co-op team to play as in Halo 4. But having more spartan IVs alongside to help would be even more awesome. 343 I hope your reading this and please make it happen.

HA XD

Purely speculation here, but if the main antagonist is The Timeless One, or a Precursor, maybe the point is to have as many Spartans as humanly possible. I could see Master Chief needing all the help he can get.

If anything, I hope 343i won’t include S4’s in H4.

Really, the idea of having yet another series of Spartans is a bit lame. I can understand why ONI would want them, but from a perspective outside of the games, it’s a lazy thing to do.
“Oh hey, let’s have another set of Spartans, or else we don’t have any of them left”. Halo isn’t about Spartans, nor should it rely on a constant stream of new Spartans which are ultimately and inevitably less awesome than S2’s and also not nearly as “good” as S2’s.
What would have been better, was if 343i would focus on having the remaining S2’s return as well as the remaining S3’s. Hell, they might have done better if they were to finally shed some light on the S2-Class 2 program, or would have green litted that thing finally instead of a lame S4 program.

So moving onto the game: why would we want S4’s? Chief will undoubtly be a better soldier so they’re (the S4’s) are still reduced to canon fodder that will raise eyebrows as to why they’re even there when we all know Chief owns the hell out of them?
Just leave it at ODST’s for that matter.
And if there must be Spartans being brought back, don’t do it in H4 yet. Wait for H5 and then bring back the remainder of Blue Team and some S3’s. Hell, maybe even have Jun pop up sometime during a big “All Spartans Unite” moment.

But please. Please. Don’t include S4’s.

Hate to break it to you, but if it is the Infinity headed towards the planet, then undoubtedly we’ll see S-IVs, I hope it’s not until H5 or so, but who knows? With most S-IIIs being dead or becoming S-IVs, we won’t see them. Wonder if we’ll ever see Red Team again…

Nooo way I have no doubt that the UNSC Infinity will be carrying Spartans on it but Im hoping to see John reunite Fred, Kelly, and Linda in Halo 4 because that would be soooo awesome.
