Couple of questions.
I like ODST’s, they’re an awesome unit in my eyes. But in 2557 where everyone and their grandma can be a Spartan IV, are ODSTs even a thing? Do they have a purpose?
Also, are Spartan IV’s supposed to be as powerful as Spartan II’s? I don’t like the idea of a unit that there is like a trillion of and is only trained as an adult being as powerful or stronger than a unit bred from youth to be a machine killer.
Spartan IV’s piss me off. I don’t like how cocky, unproffesional and self obsessed they are. I like Marines and ODSTs to do that. If i order some ham and it tastes like bacon and I complain, it doesn’t mean I hate bacon I just want my ham to taste like ham -Yoink!-. Theres a way Spartans are meant to be and a normal soldiers are supposed to be. I dont like how in Spartan Ops the Elites are completely 100% useless garbage and the Spartan IVs seem 20x more effective than Spartan IIs. It makes the UNSC way too powerful for its own good. The UNSC now just effortlessly slaughters every other life form in the galaxy that has ever even thought about wielding a weapon. They have no equal in enemies. Did Elites all develop sever brain damage between Halo 3 and 4?
Im ranting and Im mad now. Please answer my questions and feed me your input. And someone love me.
yes odst are still a thing its just that the spartan now have their own independent branch, and they are stationed on infinity thats why we see so many of them.
the spartan 4s are on par to a spartan 2 only in physical attributes when the s4 is using gen 2 armour and the s2 is using gen 1 armor, so if the spartan 2 would have been in a gen 2 mjolnir armour he/she would be much stronger then a s4.
you must realize that the cutscene in spartan ops is made so that the story can continue, and it wasn’t really accurate.
and yes humanity have suddenly become this unstoppable force just right after they almost went extinct and scarce on resources.
Yes, ODSTs still exist. Yes, in armor the Spartan-IVs are on par as strong as a Spartan-II, but that does not mean they are as skilled. As for how cocky and unprofessional they are, it seems like you are condemning them for being normal people, which is what they are. They aren’t indoctrinated government-sponsored death machines. They are not meant to be Spartan-IIs. As for their effectiveness against Elites, they are still skilled soldiers and with their armor and augmentations are more effective then they once were. But its like being upset that Luke managed to kill Stormtroopers in Star Wars Episode 4 despite them being high trained shock troops and him a farm boy who just barely went into space like an hour ago.
Not every ODST becomes a SIV, there is still a selection process. I do understand your point of view.
I too dislike the snobbiness of the Spartan IV’s… I prefer the calm, laid back, but I could kill you quickly if provoked kinda Spartan… cause that’s the kinda Spartan I am

Yes. The Latest series of Halo Escalation have ODSTs.
You also have to remember that about 300 of the Spartans on Infinity are Gamma Company from the Spartan IIIs and if you read Ghost of Oynx and played Reach. The Spartan IIIs had real personality quirks, like team Kanata and Kat and Emile
So here are the Spartans of the Spartan Branch at the moment. 300 cocky teenage kids who hadn’t seen much action before they were folded into the 4’s and all think they are Uber bad -Yoink-. And then a few hundred veterans who were already kick -Yoink- from their time in the UNSCDF like Majestic (Just look at most of thier service records and you can see why they were chosen to be spartans) and Alpha-Nine With Buck and Romeo, and now they are even more kick -Yoink- yet still have their personalities intact. Which Muso wanted when he made the 4’s.
I highly suggest you read Halo: New Blood and the Escalation comics. It puts a lot of back story into why the Spartan 4’s are the way they are. Especially new blood with the perspective of Buck and his initiation into the 4’s

Ok you seem to have some big misunderstandings about the number of S-IVs. There are less then 500 of them in total and between 200-300 of them are stationed on the infinity.
The big thing about becoming a Spartan is that its for life. There is no quitting or retiring from the Spartans, only ways out are death or treason. It’s the highly regimented military life and getting shot at for the rest of your days. That’s not exactly an appealing option to most people. With the ODST’s your tour will eventually be up and you can decide if you want to keep going or go back to the real world and have a normal life. That’s why the ODSTs will always be there and always vastly outnumber the Spartans.

**Aiken **would like a word with you.
Just having some fun, I know Aiken was a special circumstance. Also it could be argued that Jun got out as well, though he is still technically working with the Spartans just not in a combat role.
ODST’s and Spartan’s used to be at odds because ODST’s couldn’t become spartan’s. Now with the Spartan IV project, ODST is basically the proving grounds to become a Spartan. Not all can become a spartan, but are still better than the standard marine grunt. I will agree that I do not like that the new Spartan IV’s are not as disciplined, but then again they were not trained since they were 6.
