I’m not sure how many people will agree with me, but I always felt the customisation in Halo Reach was by far the best! Why is this…
Halo Reach customisation:
Helmet
Left Shoulder
Right Shoulder
Chest
Wrist
Utility
Visor Colour
Knee Guards
Armour Effect
Armour Colour
Halo 5 Customisation:
Helmet
Body Armour
Visor
Armour Colour
Don’t get me wrong, I like the choice of armours and visor colours available in Halo 5, but I really miss the option to mix and match armour pieces like you could in Halo Reach (Recon helmet - Scout Shoulders - Security chest - Mark V legs etc).
One thing I do not like is the white and black design plastered all over some of the armour pieces. In the next Halo, I think they should create an armour set and then give you the option to add markings or camo to your spartan if you want.
Does anyone here prefer the customisation in Halo 5 or do you think it would be great to see something similar to what you could do in Halo Reach?
Oh and 1 more thing…look up “Bungie vs The World” on Google images…that Earth visor on the EVA helmet would be pretty cool to have as an animated visor option in the next Halo!!
Get ready to be excited because they’ve said Infinite will have customization inspired by Reach whhooooo! While Halo 5 has my favorite set by far, Reach’s options and menus are second to none for me too.

I’m very excited too!

Halo: Reach has the best armor customization options by far. I’m excited that this style of customization is coming back. I would also love to see armor effects again.
You know, we had worse. MCC only gave us sets and not full armor customization. So saying H5 has the fewest customization options is plain false.
In any case, Reach style customization will return. I’m super glad for this as I may finally recreate my Spartan from Reach which I think it’s the most realistic out of the series. I can literally picture him in every real life shot and it would blend in right perfectly. Mountain ranges? Perfect. Cloudy environments? Perfect. Beaches? Even that is perfect. I just need to hope that the armor doesn’t feel like shiny plastic and looks like actual metal… which looks like it will =D.
It’s already confirmed that the customization is going to be similar/inspired by Reach which is great news. I just hope they try to expand upon what Reach built.
I would have personally loved to see a mix between Reach and 4. I loved how in 4 you could customize your forearms and leg armor sets not just a wrist and knee pads like Reach. The leg utility was one of my favorites, I love Ammo pouches on armor and being able to put a tactical soft case on my leg was amazing. I miss the ammo pouches on the Spartan armors. Maybe we could make ammo pouches it’s own chest customization thing! Heck the butt pouch from the Cammando armor set was one reason why I always used it.
A customization system that goes as follows
Helmet
-Visor
-Helmet mod (Like Reach)
Chest Piece
Shoulder
Forearms
-Wrist Mod
Legs
-Knee Guards
-Utility
Armor Effect
Armor Skin
Armor Colors
Etc.
Heck I’d love to see Emblems show up on the armor again like Halo 2 where it was on the shoulders and the back. I hate how Emblems stopped showing up. And Id also love to see an option for Weapon Customization like weapon skins and stuff. Maybe get an emblem on there, eh?
I think that armor customization should go far enough that you can distinguish individual pieces from one another. So it would be much like Reach; you get to pick a helmet, chestplate, legs, individual shoulders, visor, and of course armor color. But small things that are hard to notice, such as wrist and utility, aren’t worth the time and effort to implement, IMO.
In addition, each armor piece should be distinct and well designed. Halo Reach accomplished this perfectly. Halo 4 and 5, on the other hand, did not. Not only did both games have a lot of unappealing and poorly designed armors, but they were also filled with variants of the exact same armors with slightly different patterns. Every armor piece in the game ought to have a reason for existing. What’s the point of having 236 helmets and 227 chestplates if only a handful of those will ever be used? Reach had about 21 different helmets. That gave us a lot to choose from without it being too much. You could look at any player and know the name of their helmet.
Halo 5’s customisation didn’t even look like a spartan, it was just random. We had unlock them in a RNG system which was bad. It doesn’t look like a spartan if the visor is too small or no visor at all. Forehead and chin needs to be the right size, not too big or too small.
UI:
In halo 5, the customisation UI is just messy, variants aren’t in the same place, in reach it was easier to find the variants by just pressing the Helena which extra parts and we get to see the preview of the customisation before we buy it. In halo 5, it was too slow the zoom out.
UI for customisation needs to be tidy.
Halo 5’s customization looked cartoonish as reach looked more real but for infinite, it needs to look real with awesome graphics like H2A.
I don’t think that Halo 5’s customisation is the worst, I just think that it is rather poor compared to Reach’s customisation which allowed players to be a bit more creative.
Sure, in Halo 5 there are hundreds of armour and helmet types to choose from, but the majority I personally think look awful and most of those armours/helmets are just the same set with a different pattern applied to it.
Hearing that Halo 6’s customisation will be similar to that of Reach’s though, is great news…very excited about that!
Looking at the 2 Samurai style armours, Raider and Shinobi, I’ve always wondered how people would react if they reintroduced Hayabusa back into the game, complete with the sword.

True.
Hayabusa was really a one-time thing. It’s Bungie’s returning favor after Nicole-458 was introduced in Dead or Alive 4. It was considered for Halo 4, but I think it got scrapped for licensing issues. We could always consider Raider to be a spiritual successor to it.
