Spartan Color Customization?!

So I got into the flight (YAY!!!) and I go to play some training to get familiar with the guns, keyboard & mouse controls, etc. and I love the feel of movement and the gun play. So after messing around in training for maybe 30 minutes I decide to poke around all the other features in the flight. Find the unlocks menus (weapons, vehicles, etc.) and found it cool. Get to the spartan customization and find the prosthesis editing and was like “Holy crap this is pretty legit!” Then I get to the color customization and find that it SUCKS… it’s like 343 decided that Halo CE color palettes were good enough and said “F*** it, lets not make customization anywhere near the level of Halo 5, lets knee cap it all the way back to CE. Sound good?” To which everyone in the d*** meeting replied “Yeah that’s a great idea! Everyone’s gonna love only have set color schemes to choose from so that they can run into other players with the exact same spartan every other match!”

I know I’m bein pretty EFFING salty here, but I mean come on guys, this is ridiculous and I can only pray that it get a MASSIVE over haul on the color customization BEFORE release. I don’t care if you have to delay the game by another 6 months to get that BASIC function put into the game, JUST DO IT!

End of rant… thank you.

I agree I dislike the armor coatings, but the system is because they want to sell more MTX by going f2p. Additional coatings that you unlock and can purchase are more creative if you take 3 seconds to look around, they didn’t revert to CE. Which I’d prefer since then it wouldn’t cost money for colours.

Halo Infinite is using the Armour Coating system, you unlock coatings through challenges & the battle pass.

This information has been out there for almost a year now. I’m kind of surprised you weren’t aware of this information.

Coatings will be proving a lot of colour schemes and textures to Spartans instead of just being a flat colour.

This isnt going to have a overhaul or change. This is how player customisation works in Halo Infinite.
You’ll be better off leaving constructive feedback rather than angry rants.

I get that they’re using the coating system, I get that you can (and likely will) pay for better looking coatings, I don’t mind that they’re doing the coating system. What pisses me off about the whole thing is that there is NO customization outside of that. Yes, you can change armor pieces and play around with the look that way, but the fact that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to create an even semi-custom color scheme is ridiculous. This hasn’t been a thing since Halo 3.

Unfortunately the armor colorizations have been specifically designed for a f2p styled game meaning if you want your spartan to look exactly how you want then you’ll have to grind battlepasses and hope some artist has made the exact color combo you want or you’re going to have to go look for stupid codes on mountain dews or whatever other tacky things 343 could get a deal with to drain your wallet. Oh you want blue armor? That’ll be $110 cheers, here’s your code for blue with the collectors edition pre order, oh you want green? Go buy mountain dew… purple, cadbury chocolate etc. but hey 343 specifically said they wanted infinite to not feel like a grind and players to be able to play how they like and for people to be able to make their spartans feel like their own… thats why if we want to level up we have to play multiplayer how challenges dictate. Tough luck if you’re a skilled player because you won’t be getting any extra xp for being MVP and winning your multiplayer matches, you’ll have to go complete x amount of games or back smack x amount of players. Was real enjoyable seeing I had earned 0 xp for a match I’d just won with the most kills in the lobby.

Yeah… I get that they’re trying to cope with the F2P stuff… but they’re really making this less like Halo and more like Elysium… not a BAD game, just not Halo.

because microtransactions, yet a vocal minority will argue how this is for the better, as if we couldnt have another option for texture alongside a color picker, i know it sucks but its not going anywhere unfortunately

It’s utter garbage… only reason it’s “f2p” is so microsoft can double dip and milk the players for as much cash as possible. They had to have it on gamepass so they could rave on about how great their service is but then will slide a bunch of slimey f2p styled tactics into the multiplayer without a second thought or care on how it negatively impacts the game itself.

I agree… like I mean… I have to pay for colours? Like bruh just make it like halo reach with the two tone ability to change to any combination.

Theyre going the destiny 2 route for custom colors

The coatings are not a bad idea since we barely even saw people’s colors outside of very specific game modes. If you have to pay for colors for it to be free then I’m all for it.

Yeah… I’ve been busy for the longest time with work and college, so I didn’t get to read much into the color customization stuff. It sucks, bottom line. Unless 343 allows you to submit custom coatings for review so they can either be added as a store option and free for you, or just given to you, I will forever hate the coating system.

Armour Coatings & pre set colours kind of contradict eachother. You can’t really have both work in harmony without one being more valued than the other.

Lets say coatings we’re not colour based and just textures & patterns.
You can use your own colours in is example.

What’s the motivating factor for anyone to try and progress towards or buy a different pattern/texture for the colours they already have equipped? It would arguably be a worse system.

Tying colours, textures & patterns is probably the only good way for armour coatings to work in my opinion.
Considering this is the first overhaul of player customisation in terms of colouring and personalisation I think 343 have done a decent job at it so far.

you’re really late to the party, buddy

this has been confirmed ages ago, lol

Welcome to like May/June 2021. Yeah, the armor coatings system is just a way of creating a problem that didn’t exist and selling the solution to the player. Between gamespass and a F2P Fortnite model multiplayer I was already skeptical on buying the game but armor coatings was the final nail in that coffin.

I’d assume that the motivation would be to unlock different types of patterns your colors are applied to the armor, along with different materials and have the colors be affected by that as well?

The exact same system, but with color customization would be arguably the worse one?

I guess you are not into any knews about Halo Infinite then… Thay said like over an year ago that this will be this way, no color selection, only Coatings. And we will have a lot of options and a lot of coatings, what you are seeing in the flight is obviously just a few of what he will have in the full game.

This was discussed a lot in the past year, you would know that if you followed the announcements and the blogs and the news for Halo Infinite.

I really don’t like the armor coating system, probably the worst thing about customization in Infinite. Instead of being able to select my Spartan’s own color scheme (like every other game since H2) I have to choose from a bland set that forces a color scheme on me. I wish they would just use the old formula, Primary, Secondary, and maybe even Tertiary colors. Don’t fix something that isn’t broken.
