Spartan Children

I wonder what would happen if Spartans had children. Would they become super soldiers too? Maybe not pass down the cybernetic components but maybe the super soldier serums they injected into them.
Or can they not have children because they made their Spartans sterile.

  • Spartans aren’t sterile. Not as far as we know, at least. Augmentation processes were said to have a chance at suppressing -Yoink!- drive, but otherwise nothing. - The augmentations shouldn’t be hereditary. None of the modifications apply to DNA aside from gene therapy which is there to make sure nothing goes wrong with the augmentations. Children of Spartans having augmentations would be like someone giving birth to a child with a titanium hip implant because the father had one. Or something like that. Or I’m completely wrong and my biology class was a lie.

Actually augmentations are passed down to the children but as far as we know it doesn’t make them super human just somewhat better than normal people. These are the Spartan 1.1’s. The children of the Spartan I’s. No II or III as of yet has had a child so no idea if its the same for them.

They aren’t. Any superhuman traits found in the Spartan 1.1s are a result of augmentations applied in their infancy.
From Halopedia:

> While born ordinary, it is suspected that they are subjected to numerous augmentations at infancy.

Here’s an audio clip from from ilovebees.
And here’s the important part of that clip:

> Sometime when you were a baby, somebody stuck you with a needle and shot you full of miracles.

Randal in nightfall was a S II and had a daughter who unfortunately died from a sickness brought in by a Sangheili terrorist attack

Hadn’t Randal’s augmentations been removed or reversed already though? We can’t really use him as an example of whether the augmentations are passed down.

But the simple fact that most or all of the augmentations were able to be removed would logically also remove the possibility of them being passed along to off spring , at least in my mind. If they are superficial (I use the word relatively and loosely , as we all know they are by no means superficial) enough to be removable then I doubt they could be passed on.

Only the implantation augmentations such as the bone reinforcements, the biochemical augments you can’t get rid of because the bond with your DNA

There is no reason to believe it isn’t reversible considering the technology the UNSC has available.
Biochemical enhancement is reversible, even genetic alterations are reversible.

I can see them being reversible but I doubt it is a gentle process, most likely it’s something similar to chemotherapy, an extremely rough and long process over the course of weeks and months

Most likely. The augmentation process was (and still is) not a gentle process either.
But its probably not that long though considering that the initial procedure that also very short.

True, and no doubt has really bad side effects

Spartan augmentations aren’t hereditary; full stop. It’s all cybernetic or biochemical alterations; none of which would be passed down. Heredity is only determined by your germ line cells. You can do almost anything to your somatic cells without worry about your germ line cells. Even the “gene therapy” the Spartans went through wouldn’t have affected their germ line cells.
The only possibility of offspring inheriting something unconventional from Spartan parents would be through epigenetic inheritance. However, the children wouldn’t inherit the augmentations, but rather the epigenetic changes their parents had in response to the augmentations.

Didn’t the Spartan 2 that retired (Maria) start a family? Granted we never saw them, its implied she did.

She retired with the intent of starting a family. Whether or not she actually followed through with it is unknown.

I remember in Halo Nightfall the movie

**Actually augmentations are passed down to the children but as far as we know it doesn’t make them super human just somewhat better than normal people. These are the Spartan 1.1’s. The children of the Spartan I’s. No II or III as of yet has had a child so no idea if its the same for them.**If I do recall myself, I remember that in Halo Nightfall the movie, Spartan Randall Aiken rank colonial, service tag: S-037, had a daughter in the movie. she died soon after the movie started, due to a suicide Elite who dropped a bomb that compromised human DNA and essentially killed them unless they could be treated fast enough. unfortunately the daughter did not make it. the movie does not go into much detail at all about the girl, or who Randal’s wife was, but I know that he had a daughter.

(and I quote from this website)

  • “With all outbound communication and transport equipment destroyed in the Covenant attack, Randall-037 lived with the survivors of Vodin for a full decade, even marrying****one of the colonists. By the time the colony regained contact with the UNSC, his ties to the people of Vodin and his wife were too strong for him to return to service. Randall-037 – now going by the name Aiken – decided instead to keep a low profile and remain on Vodin. In 2545, Aiken and his wife had a daughter named Natalie. Tragically, Aiken’s wife died during childbirth. In 2546, ONI finally located him and made plans to reintegrate him into service, as they viewed him as a massive investment of the SPARTAN-II program. When Aiken refused, ONI deemed him compromised and no longer viable as a Spartan and so made plans to “decommission” him. . .”

Randall had Natalie (His Daughter) before some of his augmentaions were removed, would have been interesting to see her grow up.
