Does anybody else think the voice overs for multiplayer Spartans are cringy? I want to like that the Spartans talk now, and I know it can be turned off, but some lines just sound so bad to me.
There was one part in Gamespot’s terrible gameplay where a Spartan called out “Plasma Caster’s mine!” and he sounded like the dopiest, knuckle-dragging dudebro ever.
Compared to something like Battlefield 3’s which sound so raw and natural and really put you into the battle, some of the voice work is really off-putting in 5 IMO. I like chatter and I don’t want to turn it off because I enjoy it in games like Battlefield and Gears, but the bad voice acting seems like it’s going to make me.

this is it. The chatter was added as a way to encourage teamwork between players in different chat channels. After the beta feedback they made it default on but optional
It would have definitely helped if we were given voice options. Characters voices from the campaign, like in Reach Firefight.
“Plasma Caster’s mine!” In Lockes or Chiefs voice is money!
Also, where’s the righteous accents? United nations? Ello guvnah?

What do you mean by “exposing”? It is not like one team can hear the chatter of the other team
Nope, Spartan chatter is a great solution to the game chat conundrum. It’s like playing with a coordinated team without even speaking a word to each other. Also, I don’t need A-list celebrities to do toggle-able multiplayer Spartan voices in Halo 5, the voice acting is fine for what it is.

If we could use cortanas voice I would leave it on

I think you meant “United Kingdom”, but “British” would have been more accurate because Northern Ireland is also part of the UK and they don’t have the same accents or patois.

I understand what purpose it serves, but that doesn’t excuse it from sounding like crap.
You don’t need Nolan North to do a decent voice over, BF voice work is serviceable without being distracting.
Some lines sound so ridiculous in H5 that it actually annoys people, apparently to the point of 343 adding the option to turn it off.

Sorry, I just meant I’d like to hear more accents is all.

I haven’t heard anyone complain about the quality of the voice acting. As far as I’ve heard, most people complain about the chatter being distracting or unnecessary, which is why 343 made it toggle-able, not because people were complaining about subpar voice acting.

No need for apologies, friend, I was just being a pedant is all.

I thought you were referencing the fact that the soldiers in Halo fight for the United Nations Space Command. I agree that a unified Earth military shouldn’t sound only like American dudebros.
I can understand this probably comes down to time and resources; even BF used the same guy for American voices since at least Bad Company I think.
I quite dislike the chatter in the beta. I don’t want another Spartan yelling at me “WATCH YOUR AMMO!!!”, or “WATCH YOUR GRENADE SPAM!!!”, or again, “LOW ON ROCKS!!!”. I get it, you need to go pick up some boulders for your garden or something Oh wait, you actually mean that you’re low on rocket launcher ammo?. Good for you, stop calling it silly names… And I can throw all the grenades I want to, thanks. And my ammo is low? Wow, it’s a great thing that you annoyingly shouted that in my ear. How would I have known with the two indicators on my screen from my weapon and HUD?
I am so glad that this feature can be turned off. That, and the bro-down were the two things I disliked the most about the Halo 5 beta, and even got to the point where it prevented me from playing more than I should have.
