> combat in Halo 5. Now, with so many aspects, you’d think there’d be some strategy variation right? Doesn’t seem like it. There isn’t a single time when I round a corner and i’m not spartan charged by a sprinting enemy. I do the same, always. Because spartan charge is unbalanced. Here’s why.

> Halo 5 stands out from a lot of other FPS games because of it’s regenerating health and long times to kill. This is what makes Halo really good in my opinion, because it’s a break from all those .50 second shooters that break your thumbs. But with Spartan Charge, it’s the complete opposite. It takes all of your shield, and around 55% of your health, and then you’re susceptible to a headshot or just a burst from anything in general. This extreme power means it’s constantly used, and it gets old FAST. A lot of other things about Halo 5 are fun and new, and you’re gonna get a different experience, especially when you’re having gunfights. But when you turn a corner or get blindsided and have no time to respond, it takes away that feeling.

> You could just remove it, but the amount of uproar from tryhards and no-skil- er, I mean players that enjoy spartan charge would be immense.
>
> So, here’s an idea: With other weapons that don’t have long TTK’s, like the rocket launcher, ground pound, and snipers etc, there’s always some negative effect that balances them. With the Rocket Lawnchair, you need to be careful not to blow yourself up, and the projectiles move slow meaning it’s hard to get shots that aren’t close to you. With ground pound, it needs to be charged, and aimed correctly. You mostly need to lead your shots as well when people are moving. But with spartan charge, you simply sprint, press RB and if you’re aiming in the general direction of an enemy the game does the rest, with no negative repercussion. So why not add impact damage, like you can lose 50% of your shield when you crash into a wall, player or vehicle. This would make the fights a lot more fair, instead of heavily favoring the player receiving the thwack.

> Now, remember how I said “The game does the rest”? Well, this could be nerfed too. Maybe remove some of the aim assist in spartan charging, so you would need to time it better and not just be able to jump up while full sprinting and get mid air spartan charges.
>
> The worst thing about Spartan Charging? The range, the range. It’s ridiculous. I’ve earned myself way too many kills by spartan charging someone in the back from ten feet away. The range needs to get reduced.

> Agree with me? Disagree? Tell me. I’d love to hear what you guys think.
Here, I’m going to offer you constructive advice all else aside.
I had the same exact issue as you being a competitive player from previous Halo games. Halo 5 was what I’ve always wanted but it was new to me and I had to get used to the mechanics. The game is faster paced with sprint, quick maneuvering with thrusts, and the addition of Spartan Charge. Coupled that with a shorter radar range my awareness and speed just wasn’t there.
However, instead of getting mad or frustrated an coming on the forums complaining saying thins like:
- Sprint sucks - Spartan Charge is to strong - Hit detection is broken - Aim settings are broken - My controller is brokenThe list of excuses could go on. I instead decided to ask, “What was I doing wrong”? or “What could I improve, do better, or adjust to best utilize these new mechanics”?
You can’t walk into Halo 5 playing like this is Halo 4, Reach, or 3. You’re gonna get your butt kicked because its a faster game. You have all these new rules and mechanics set in the game and instead of complaining and whining about each and every single one, you should learn how to play with it and make the game work for you.
What you did on this post has not helped you becoming a better player. You could’ve been out practicing. Find a friends and mess around on custom games. Play obstacle courses that utilize these abilities. You think it wouldn’t help but it does, because these obstacle course get you to use your abilities in odds way that usually push them to to the limits. it’ll help you know the limits of the abilities as well as build muscle memory. The more comfortable you with using you abilities the more often you’ll be able to not only utilize them but react to them when used against you.
Another thing I did was instead of complaining on forums or sending an angry message to that onyx or champion calling them a sweaty try-hard. I put my own ego aside and asked constructive questions to actually learn. Questions like, “How did you maneuver like that”?, “How do you know where to always be”?, " What are the nest points on a map to be"?, “When to sprint and and when not to”?. Some might be conceited but I played many matches with champions in swat and got my butt whooped but i asked them some of those exact question above and they were willing to invite me to teach me a thing or two. They also taught me how to utilize replays in theater. I have a number of them bookmarked from playing with champions and upper level Onyx’s. Watch how they play.
Those moments are what made me a better Halo player and is the reason I went from barely getting any kills on WZ to getting 40-70 kills on average and getting up into Onyx on swat.
Again, this post has done nothing but stir an unnecessary pot. Like life, the rules and whatnot may already be set. You may not be able to change them but you can change how you work with them. Learn to pay the game and make it work for you.
