Spartan Charge is an Abomination

Can someone please explain to me how after a year the atrocity that is spartan charge is still in Halo 5? Surely I can’t be the only one to see that this is hands down the most ridiculously overpowered spartan ability to date? It’s absolutely sickening to me that in any given game type you can simply pull out your AR, press sprint and “LOL I used spartan charge on you” all over th -Yoinking!- map. It’s a spammable ability, no sense of high risk as it also KNOCKS YOU BACK on top of momentarily STUNNING YOU, and has virtually NO cooldown. How dumbed down must a game become for 343 to decide “let’s give everyone the ability to become an unstoppable train!” Get this -Yoink- out of my game

Jump
+Turn around
+Thrust backwards
+Melee
=You win

I shall try that! :relaxed:

Unfortunately it will obviously remain in the game. It is one of my few complaints, but the biggest complaint about the game. I absolutely despise it. It completely rewards running blind around corners which in my opinion makes for terrible gameplay. I watch the pros play. They rarely use it. Thats very telling. That tells me its not a good mechanic. I hope its a one time deal and will not be in H6.

Does not help a bit when approaching corners. Your advice also assumes you know they are coming. Given the crap radar/motion sensor the only way to ave a hint is to play with a really good headset which is not an option for a lot of people.

I hate it too. There are very few things I’ve ever wanted nerfed in Halo, but Spartan Charge is one of them.

edit - I still don’t think it’s worse than Armour Lock or Promethean Vision though.

I hate it as well - the ability to melee the guy charging you in an exchange is so damn RNG as well… It’s total luck-based and does not belong in what is supposed to be a competitive shooter.

I love spartan charge

I agree with you. I think the spartan abilities as a whole should not exist. Spartan charge is blatantly overpowered it is worse than the boltshot in Halo 4. Please remove spartan abilities in Halo 6. Also sprint can be in the game but not in 4v4 modes. I actually think it works fairly well in Warzone but in 4v4 or even 8v8 it breaks the flow on almost all of the maps, same with clamber it breaks flow. In Warzone all that (except for spartan charge) is fine but it needs to go in arena.

Geez, use your radar, its literaly not that hard to dodge. Try melee them when they ram you then be the first to shoot them, I have absolutely no problem with it and very rarely use it, And whether its in warzone or arena its never been a problem for me, I always use my radar and always see it coming.

A 7’ tall cybernetic supersoldier in a suit of power armour should be able to climb over a 5’ high wall.

Gameplay is way more important than making sense. Regardless of how I feel about any specific example.

That’s probably the stupidest argument I’ve seen on a gaming forum in a long time. Congratulations.

All they have to do is zero the charging magnetism so you don’t get those “homing charges” and it’s fine. It’s literally a sprinting melee. Treat it like a melee.
Spartan charge does have a “cooldown” in the sense it has a startup time. If they are damaged before they can go into full sprint, they can’t charge you.
Between this and your “too powerful autos” thread, it seems like you’re complaining about everything that kills you. Especially considering you say “pull out your AR”, when the AR doesn’t affect Spartan Charge at all, you’re actually better off with the BR because all you need is a headshot to win.

I miss typed I meant to say that it needs to get out of arena.

No it is not a “sprinting melee” a melee executed after sprinting would not knock you back several feet. Also the charge up time is only like a second or two and considering it is very easy to sprint around the whole map (due to sprint being unlimited) spartan charge is a bad mechanic.

Man, I totally agree. Personally, I don’t find the new movements for spartan period (This makes me sound like every Call of Duty fanboy) but I can see why 343i would implement it simply for more marketability. A ton of games are switching to systems like this (though Halo 5’s may be a bit different than the usual iteration of this movement) and it seems to work for expanding a player base. For me, this makes the game not feel like Halo anymore for the fact that I feel a bit overpowered in the campaign when in the old games I felt almost equal to Sangheili and Jiralhanae. They posed just as much of a threat to me as I did to them. Personally, I think 343i should implement playlists that cater to the original fans by throwing the thruster packs out of the window. I will admit that it is nice to use (excluding spartan charge) if you come into the game expecting an experience close to that of Call of Duty’s. Let me know what you think.

Ways to counter Spartan Charge:

> Jump
> +Turn around
> +Thrust backwards
> +Melee
> =You win

Doesn’t always work, but it’s a good one!

  • Shotgun them in the face (Probably safer to just aim for the whole body) - Snipe them in the face (Practice those snapshots) - Stick Em. (They hate those blue spiders) - Splinter Grenade their path. (That’ll melt em’) - Watch your Radar (You need those eyes in the back of your head) - Stay Away from corners. (And if you must near one, anticipate a Spartan Charge) - Don’t stay in the same area facing the same direction for too long (Good way to get spartan charged or assassinated) - Play Destiny and then you can complain about Spartan Charges (At least there are no skating Titans in this game)Anyways, on a more serious note, I do think that the Spartan Charge should not have magnetism. If it truly is the spartan’s mass flying forward, then it should just be in a straight line, in whichever direction you were running. This would also make the Spartan Thruster a more viable solution to counter the charge (Ole!).
Also, try to stay near wall corners, or put an object between you and the charger. They are more likely to hit that and then you have a second where they are completely vulnerable.

It’s still in Halo 5, because it’s a Halo 5 mechanic. We can only hope they take it out in Halo 6 or nerf it with no aim assist (Or at least a very small amount). Also, a 25m radar wouldn’t hurt.
