Let me begin with saying this:
I have worked in combat with Special Forces, Rangers, Seals, and CAG (Delta Force) as an Infantryman. I have also played Halo games since Combat Evolved was released. I have read a few of the novels as well.
My views:
In the original Halo games (1-3), one thing stood out to me above all else: 117 was an operator. Pure and simple. He was a member of special operations. His attitude. His lack of dialogue. Everything about him… it screamed operator. (An operator is a member of the special operations community.)
When ODST was released, I chuckled at the portrayal of the unit in the intro. THIS was an airborne Infantry unit. This was a Ranger unit. It fit. They weren’t the elite. Buht they were better than Soldiers and Marines. They were the 101st Infantry. The 82nd Airborne. 10th Mountain. They weren’t 1st Cav.
The dialogue fit.
Your Spartans in Spartan Ops… and even Halo 5.
. Do not.
Not one bit.
In the presence of others, they are infallible. So, around others, they don’t -Yoink- around. They don’t hit on females in uniform. And, most of all, they don’t get in formation and salute outside of VERY formal events. If they are Spartans, even Spartan IV’s, they are tier 1 assets. They are silent professionals. They don’t -Yoink- around in public. In private, they worship game of thrones and drink beer and cry. In front of others, they are above regulations (No shaving, no saluting) and they don’t act like -Yoinking!- kids. They are terrifying. You are glad they are on your side. Not curious as to why they hit on superiors and punch each other in the arm.
343… you need a military advisor. One who is knowledgeable in special operations. Not a -Yoinking!- SEAL. Study CAG. Or DEVGRU. Master Chief was perfect. Others can have his attitude and still be original. Buck and Locke are good as well. But throwing Spartans left and right and acting like only a few are actual badasses is ridiculous. For selection to train to become any serious spec ops takes more than strength and stamina.
You have a lot on your plate. I get it.
This is making your Spartans laughable.
Stop it. They aren’t conventional military. They don’t toe the line. They don’t act like children.
