How would you guys feel if they allowed control of a spartan like in spartan assault? An expanded version of the arbiter from the original Halo Wars. Am I wrong in thinking spartan assault was built off the Halo Wars engine?.. Hmm
Personally I’m easy either way. I’d hope to have some variation in factions like the original (Covenant with leaders and UNSC with Spirit) but perhaps instead one leader of each faction could have a playable character on the ground whilst the other had different abilities. Captain Cutter could still have his ODST and MAC while another UNSC leader would be lacking such abilities but instead have say, the ghost prototype suit playable on the field instead. Another worry would be for this playable character (If fully playable like Spartan Assault) to take too much attention away from building and commanding and therefore It might be better to have another player control the troop on the ground.

Perhaps like that. Not saying I’m completely for this. Just putting together the fact spartan assault was built from Halo Wars and we already had something along those lines with the arbiter… maybe it’s already in making.
If they were to go along those lines I’d rather have a playable spartan in first person even if it was combat evolved graphics down there… but have another player in your team control it.
I have thought about that since like forever great idea and maybe if you had ally’s they could control them with permission and it would be like covenant leaders
Twin Stick shooter would be better than FPS. Because in FPS you wouldn’t really have many features, or even an interesting battlefield to look at. That and Twin Stick shooters are generally closer to RTS games in term of unit properties and funtionality than an FPS game.
There’s way to much to take into account if you were to make an FPS like feature in an RTS to make both parts actually interesting.
For instance, are all units to fire projectiles that can miss as the target moves? Like a player in FPS mode who’s strafing. Or will most units have hitscan and 100% accuray like it usually is? Meaning mass infantry will take down a player quite quickly despite movement from the player.
Moving on from that, Halo Wars will most likely feature height maps, meaning there’s only one layer. While many Halo maps are essentially one big layer, they often feature more layers at some places in the map. So jumping wouldn’t really be that useful.
Then the enemy the enemy will encounter, it won’t really have any intelligence aside from pursuing you and trying to kill you, regardless of faction. Or whatever the player orders them to do.
There’s more as well, and all that puts too much restriction on the FPS part in my opinion for it to be enjoyable, or even viable.
That’s why I think a Twin Stick shooter mechanic would be better, but some of the aforementioned problems still exist, and I’d rather have more of a pure RTS to play.
