SPARTAN ABILITIES

Button mashing is great, however, button combinations are awesome.
I really enjoy the complexity in Halo 5’s movement mechanics, and I really think we can take it a step further.
Primarily, should we see a return in Halo 4’s ordinance drops?
More importantly, I would really enjoy combining buttons patterns and activating a jetpack, or a hardlight shield, etc.
A step to a new league of gaming, what do you guys think? Should we get more variety in gameplay mechanics and field upgrades or simply should we sharpen our traditional combat style even further more?

God no. Please no ordinance drops. However i did like halo 5’s mechanics but the halo community is extremely divided in this area. Whatever 343 will do, there wil always be people complaining about it. To me the old trilogy is too slow and kind of boring so i hope 343 goes with something like h5.

Terrible idea. Button mashing isn’t fun for a shooter.

I liked the Spartan Abilities of Halo 5. Ordinance Drops was a cool mix in Halo 4 but it took some of the traditional joy of finding weapons on map. The armor abilities of Halo 4 were cool but I question how they could merge that and Spartan Abilities together. Might be a bit of a cluster mess there. If anything, I’d say keep the Spartan Abilities.

I have never played Halo 5 so I don’t know about Spartan Abilities but no to ordinance drops. They were really bad because without weapons being spawned on a set time it is just random. Also it helps restrict the weapons.

This.
I’ve played every Halo since day one back in 2001…but going back to the old mechanics is difficult for me these days. I guess it takes some time getting used to a slower paced Halo again but I wouldn’t mind if H5 was in large the base for Infinite’s multi. Just no more thrusters and ground pound. And certainly no return to armor abilities in any way (including what H3 did).

In halo 5 I always plan my dashes, they have a cool down period.

Either I time it perfectly, or I’m button mashing dash to win my encounter.

So I don’t know what you are talking about.

Honestly Spartan Abilities need to go and Equipment should make a comeback, Prefer to have Sprint, Slide & Clamber, and having Equipment like Bubble Shield, Rader Jammer, ect would be awesome

A first-person fighting game sounds great, but it’s not what i personally want from Halo. I found it difficult to dive into Halo 2’s multiplayer with it’s button combos (not that a dedicated player couldn’t learn them easily), and i imagine the average gamer would feel the same way. If 343i is hoping to attract the attention of a wider audience, i don’t think they should make a game as dense as Mortal Combat.

I also don’t like ordinance drops as it homogenizes the sandbox. It may have it’s place in certain gamemodes, but the average match of slayer should not include them, in my opinion.

I think new mechanics could be added to Halo, but the core system should be easy to understand. When a casual player watches Ninja stream Halo Infinite, they should be able to guess which buttons he pressed to get his spartan to do things. This got a little out of hand in Halo 5, especially when high-level players started exploiting the mechanics. For this reason, i suspect we’ll see a reduction in movement complexity in Halo Infinite. Additionally, i don’t see Halo 2’s button combinations coming back in style anytime soon.

Finally, i do think we’ll see more variety in gameplay mechanics through the sandbox in Halo Infinite. Makings Spartans more powerful through base mechanics, and thus making them less reliant on the sandbox, reduces gameplay variety. Ordinance drops have a similar (negative) effect on gameplay variety, with less reliance on the sandbox. I think this is why Halos 4 and 5 didn’t retain the same playerbase that previous Halo titles did.

THIS!

I think equipment can be built upon and bring the best of both worlds to Halo. Equipment really hit it’s stride with Bubble Shields and Gravity Lifts, and I really think that movement options could be incorporated through maybe a new forerunner grenade that can be used for jumping instead of just offense, or anything else someone can think of.

Incorporating movement changes through map pickups reinforces the core Halo gameplay as well as innovates the game without changing base player traits

I say only have sprint and clamber, at most

With the release of Infinite at here now, we have an abundance of information for its release.

Some ideas that have sparked are as follows;
flood mines - placeable traps that set off once enemy player activates it by being in its radius.
upgraded hologram - a psychosis feature that is a one time use. Multi hologram that are distinguishable between player and holograms. Small radius, for quick one on one encounters.

The built-in thrusters in Halo 5: Guardians were unnecessary for all purposes besides making the game faster. Give me sprint, give me jump, and give me clamber, and you’ve got yourself a happy camper.
