Spartan Abilities

Hello everyone!

I saw this topic a while back, but I couldn’t find it again. Out of all the spartan abilities from Halo 5, which ones would you like for them to make a return in Infinite? For a refresher here are the abilities: 1. Thruster Pack 2. Ground Pound 3. Clamber 4. Slide 5. Spartan Charge 6. Smart Scope 7. Stabilizer/Hover 8. Sprint
I for personally, would love for them to keep thruster pack, since it greatly increases movement for offense and defense. It also makes sense for a super solider in a high tech suit. If they where to keep one ability it would be this one for me. If they take it out, I would be so sad. :frowning: Also smart scope for it makes sense, and your also knocked out of it every time you get hit. So its not OP at all. It just allowed you to see farther away. I would also like them to keep sprint, slide and clamber, more so because they just allow easier navigation between different areas of the map. Making getting into the action faster and quicker as well as more fun.
Ground pound I’m indifferent, its fun to use sometimes, but not something i really use at all. Or really useful. At least in multiplayer but it is kinda fun in campaign (was playing evolved and i kept wanting to ground pound a lot)
Things I would like them to remove is the stabilizer/hover, never liked it, wish i could turn it off. As well as spartan charge. If they would remove one ability I would like them to remove that one. Sprint was made so your in a disadvantage when using it, you cant fire quickly and your shields dont recharge. I think its well balanced, but when you add spartan charge, I feel a little cheated when one person is sprinting and your walking when you meet in a closed area the one sprinting can basically one hit kill you. When in fact it should be reverse, the one walking should have had the advantage.

These are just my thoughts personally. What do you guys think? Are there any other special abilities or equipment from 3, Reach and 4 any of you would like to make a return in one form or another?

Honestly, I think only the clamber, smart scope, and hover abilities should return. Mostly because all of these abilities enhance the game without drastically changing it too much. keeping things simple would not only be a good way to bring back some of the old community who want a more classic halo, but it would also revive an old style of game play that hasn’t been seen in a long time.

Keep Spartan Charge but instead of slamming into them with your rifle, you bash them with your fist and DECK THEM.

I think the enhanced movement mechanics add too much unnecessary complication to gameplay imo. Whilst they were implemented well into Halo 5’s sandbox, I feel Halo 5’s Halo 3 Anniversary Throwback Playlist just shows that Halo doesn’t necessarily need fancy movement mechanics for good gameplay.

Sprint’s controversial and it seems that the community is quite split about it as some players started with Reach/4/5. I would personally like to see it go, though again this one is quite divided. I wouldn’t mind if it’s only for the campaign as it makes level traversal a lot quicker though I doubt we would have a game mechanic like sprint be campaign only and not in multiplayer.

Thruster pack depends though I feel classic Halo tactics such as how grenades are used wouldn’t work as well due to the fact you can just thruster away (you could make grenade explosions larger though that makes the mechanic feel pointless imo). Spartan charge needs to go as well; it could work somewhat but based on how Halo 5’s Arena was, the limited motion tracker range meant there was virtually no way to really counter it until it’s too late.

I personally don’t mind having smart-scope (though maybe disable it in ranked or Arena and have it as option in custom games). In addition, maybe add an option under settings on enabling classic zoom for people who prefer it. Hover/Stabilise is actually rather nice and I feel could be combined with previous jump techniques like grenade jumps (which do need to return I feel) or crouch-jumping to have some fairly tricky jumps. The same for clamber.

IMO this is the problem that is one of the main problems with the newer Halo’s and why people love the classic (Halo 3,2 & CE). Your first question is which abilities would you like to see come back? Even from the introduction of the sprint function in Halo Reach people have been resistant towards changes to the play style of the game. After Halo 3 the dev team tried to keep introduce new and exciting abilities and gameplay mechanics with each new Halo and that’s not what Halo was about, whether it’s adding a sprint function or Promethean vision. Halo at it’s peak was a game based on skill. You have one set movement speed, wits, and your skill that’s it. That’s what made it such a competitive compelling game. It does the franchise such a disservice to keep adding more and more instead of keeping true to it’s roots. I have been playing halo since the Launch of CE and I guess you could call me old school, but I will never understand to want to stray away from what was working in the first place. I still play Halo MCC to this day and I’m hoping Halo Infinite’s team listens to the many people saying exactly what i have been. Nothing personal it’s just my rant. Also i’m not resistant to change, as long as the change has been request by the majority of players.

I like sprint, slide and clamber, they offer more in the way of map traversal than any of the others, should map design be tailored to fit these “enhanced” abilities. Ground pound and Spartan charge, while cool was too balance breaking. I didnt have an opinion for stabilize, ADS can be good, should the game trade hitscan weapons for projectile based fire, and get rid of bullet magnetism. I like the thrusters, but maybe have a deft movement mechanic allowing the player to quickly side step left or right, and have a tactical roll ability either forwards or backwards.

I’m fine with thrusters, clambering, smart scope, slide, and sprint. Ground pound and shoulder bash/charge can go in my opinion. And the stabilizer.

Wall running , double jumping and grappling hook should definitely make a return this edition .
