Spartan abilities or armour abilities

which would you rather see in Halo infinite

Neither.

I would like to see them return in campaign and firefight, but not as much in PvP.

If one or the other has to be in the game, I would prefer spartan abilities so that equal starts are maintained. That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing a return to more classical gameplay without either of them

Reach customization and firefight.

Spartan Abilities, but tweaked and without Spartan Charge, Sprint, Clamber and Slide.

Equipment. Single use.

Armor abilities designed around being map pickups. Its always boggled my mind this was never tried as it always seemed like loadouts were the big problem not armor abilities as a concept, though specific armor abilities were always going to be a problem RE: Armor lock.

I think the idea of a “4th leg of fun” has merit, but both Bungie and 343 have gone about it in the wrong way. Like I said, the problem with AA’s in Reach and Halo 4 is that they were tied to loadouts and were often too defensive in nature. The problem with Spartan Abilities in Halo 5 is that they fundamentally change the core of movement and design. They are more “fair” than Reach/H4 AA’s if only because everyone has them, but as a result the core of the game is irrevocably changed as a result. Halo 5 is essentially the Super Mario Sunshine of the Halo series. It is not a “bad” game taken by itself, but in the context of the series, the new gimmicks are so pervasive that they take away from what made the games that game before it enjoyable.

Armor Abilities don’t have those same problems provided they are separated from loadouts. At that point they become part of the greater sandbox as a new layer on top of existing mechanics rather than subsuming them.

TL;DR: Armor Abilities, but placed on the map > than both loadouts or Spartan Abilities

Soooooo, just a whole new set of abilities?

Personally, I like armor abilities more. Compared to Spartan Abilities, they were more impactful and powerful. While Spartan Abilities have more uses since they have no cooldowns tied to them, armor abilities are just so much cooler and allow more creative ways to play. Flying in a jet pack, defending a point with an auto sentry, going invisible with a sniper rifle in BTB, and so on. Hologram will always be a favorite of mine. Being able to trick people into thinking you moved somewhere, then ambushing them… It’s just always fun for me.

We’d be lucky to get any firefight at all.

What makes you say that?

Out of those two choices I’d rather have Spartan Abilities since it’s more equal and not a guessing game as to what someone is using.

none of the above brother lmao

I really enjoyed the armor abilities in Reach, it gave the player more strategies to use. If you use them right ofcourse. I would love to see the hologram, jetpack, autosentry, promethean vision, evade, active camouflage and regenerator. Spartan abilities I would love to return too. Played Halo since 2001 and it’s good to refresh the gameplay I think. But to be honest, I think if they would stick to the Halo 3 gameplay style with equipment items and classic movement I think the Halo population could get back on top again.

Would like the return of where I could actually toggle my active camo when I wish instead of it being a single use kinda thing. Would also like the return of the jetpack, could make gameplay more interesting and maybe switch the armor lock out for the hard light shield since it’s kind of OP when your about to spatter someone only to have your vehicle flip and explode because they used their armor lock at the last minute.

Basically all that’s left is Thruster Packs and Ground Pound even thought Ground Pound could go too. So no, not a new set of abilities. I just loved using Thrusters in Halo 5. I wouldn’t mind seeing Thrusters with H3 Equipment, in fact, I would probably love it.

none

I’d like to have both in changed manner:

  • H3 style equipement on the map, maybe multi- use with a cooldown.

  • Momentum based Spartan Abilities ( differnt name): insted of button activated abnimations, you get a momentum boost in the indicated direction:

  • reach maximum strafe velocity , or somenthing a bit above it, in a split-second

  • halo online like sprint ( a small speedboost forward, reduced turning speed, slower shield recharge)

  • add a extra vector of force to your jumps

  • if the momentum button is pressed while crouching mid jump, you are accelerated downwards

  • extra momentum increases your melee damage, but also the dammage others can inflict on you by meleeing ( a bit less)

  • there is a second “feet hitbox” around your normal hitbox. if you narowly miss an edge by height or distance while jumping, the additional hitbox can still reach the edge and you can perform a half-height jump ( like bugging up a wall). crouch-jumping would also move this hitbox.

I would rather have equipment, some of which using certain armor abilities or spartan abilites as a one time use thing.
say for example, replacing the thruster pack and jet pack with a one time use jump pack that shoots up into the direction you were looking. and also a promethean turret like halo 4 and of course the good old bubble shield.

but if I were told to choose between the 2 then it depends on which armor abilities and which spartan abilities are returning. the only spartan abilities I’d be fine with are sprint, clamber, and maybe thruster.
