So I’ve been playing halo sense halo ce. I thought playing as a bad -Yoink- space marine combo of iron man and captain America couldn’t get cooler until halo 3 and the introduction of equipment. My first glimpse of equipment like many others came in the form of the halo 3 trailer and master chief using a bubble shield grenade. Though the bubble shield didnt function as advertised it was still an awesome add to the already powerful and fun array of weapons players had. As halo reach and 4 came out equipment took the sideline for abilities which where again cool but I missed the equipment when halo 5 came out I fell in love with the thruster system but felt it was both too much and yet not enough. Moving forward into halo infinite here are a few suggestions. First off I think a point about armor customization needs to be made. Recent halo games have had various customization options my personal favorite being reach and with the addition of 4 and the the spartan 4’s being acknowledged as multiplayer PLAYER Spartans l think it time that armor customization be more than simple cosmetics. I feel that the stylization of a players spartan should reflect how they play and in turn bolster it. For instance wearing a recon helmet give a player enhanced motion tracker, zoom or a marking ability, or wearing Linda’s style helmet and not being knocked out of zoom when shot,motion tracker visible while zoomed as well as the ability to mark targets for your team, wearing odst helmet give you status updates on map based power weapons and respawnables and minor threat detection filter outlining hostiles in red light and wearing the air assault helmet make it so you get killed by a single headshot “cough” kat"cough"…had to sorry. But under no circumstances should these ability and stat altering armors be purchasable through microtransaction. Only cosmetic things such as stances,banners,perhaps quips,visor colors,skin patterns for armors,weapons and vehicles and the announcers voices be spartan team leaders such as palmer, buck,dimarco, Thorne, Locke or even the chief himself. But armor its self should be earned by level or commendations such as falling from a stunning height and getting a kill soon after a number of times unlocks a hell jumper style piece. I hate halo 5s armor system quantity over quality is not better and having to rely on RNG to get a piece I want is like trying to find a needle in a haystack while blindfolded.its neither fun nor rewarding…
Anyway here is my list of abilities and changes.
1.replace hover aim and change ground pound. These abilities are both extremely situational and often underused and I find it extremely difficult to believe that the thrusters could generate enough lift on their own to keep a near 1000lbs spartan airborne for even a few seconds. Instead I suggest hover aim be replaced with a double jump that works off the same charge as the evade thrusters so you can only do one or the other but not both.
The ground pound ability should be instantaneous as soon as you’re in the air at the appropriate height and hold the button input you should go rocketing down not hover for 3 seconds while charging the ability that’s a great way to present yourself as a clean sniper target. Additionally only hitting the target should do damage either resulting in a kill or knocking back anyone close enough to the impact zone.
2. Sprinting charge should do the more knock back damage to targets perhaps leave the actual damage it does alone but focus more on increasing the knock back effect on targets. I’d like to sprint bash a warthog or something and flip it rather than die.
3. The ability to go prone should be a feature by now they do it multiple times in the books and comics I just think it’s odd it’s not in the game yet.
4.no fall damage death at most it should pop shields that’s it.
Note these are abilities I think Spartans should have by default meaning their universal. Next I wanna suggest new armor abilities like from reach or 4.
- Bubble shield either as a large deployable the player throws down to support their team such as in reach or as single occupant once per spawn survival tool this idea would have it function like armor lock where you would be frozen in place inside an impenetrable shield trying to live just long enough for your team to kill your attackers or save yourself from a rocket or tank shot many a reach vet will tell you this makes a difference.
- Active camouflage is a halo must but for the life of me I’ll never understand who’s bright idea it was to program the camo to fail if you moved to fast this should only happen if sprinting otherwise you should remain invisible for the duration.
- Motion tracker jammer either as a deployable such as in halo 3 or as a rechargeable ability but having this ability tied to camouflage is not good combo the people start to look for the invisible guy.
- Over shield being a once per spawn ability. Pro is you get 2 extra shield layers. Con is once depleted and you are one shotable it takes 3 times as long for your shields to recover back to normal once the cooldown is over you’ll have normal shields until you die and use the ability on your next life. Using an EMP device like the plasma pistol or grenade launcher will knock out the over shields in one go.
- Leach mag is kinda like a glass cannon ability. Once per spawn you can trigger an ability that drains all your shields and gives your equipped weapon mag a 2× damage multilayer. Pro you get a significant damage increase to your held weapon. Con your shields wont replenish until you reload or swap weapons in which case the effect wears off the weapon and your shields recharge like normal.
- Emp burst consumes half your shields but discharges the energy in a short range blast disabling vehicles and shields within range.
