Space Warfare

Everyone remembers the amazing space mission in Halo: Reach; how weighted and realistic the ship felt, the freedom of the battle zone, and the actually descent fighting mechanics. So why not majorly expand it in Halo 5 for multiplayer?

343i could model it after Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s epic space warfare.

Two flagships exist, or even one flagship attacking a space station like in Halo 2’s opener. One faction could be Covenant while another UNSC as in Halo: Reach’s Invasion game type.

  1. Unique and exclusive ships for each faction.
  2. Jet packs would be standard to allow for travel outside the atmosphere.
  3. Ship would leave hangers and each engage in dogfights or invade the other team’s hanger.
  4. Each team would have to complete a specific objective to win, not just reach a kill count, such as lay explosives within the other’s ship, taking over the other team’s command bridge or even just a form of capture the flag.
  5. The space station could have to be defended for a long enough time to charge the MAC cannon to destroy the invading ship.

That sounds like an awesome gametype, I just hope that they will have a ton of maps on launch day to support multiple gametypes. I’m hoping for around 15-20 maps. 3-5 small sized, 3-5 medium sized, 3-5 large sized and a couple maps made for specific gametypes like what you have. Halo 4 didnt fail because of its terrible gameplay, it failed because it lacked a variety of maps and if they can have the classic gameplay with classic Halo inspired maps along with some maps that can support infinity settings then we should have what should be the best Halo since Halo 2 and 3 without upsetting anybody

Something tells me, that this and alot of other things we want are going to be in the next game

Forge would really come in handy if we were to have space battles.

Jet packs wouldn’t be necessary considering that there is no gravity in space. Spartans should be able to walk along the outsides for each ship, but going out too far should be prohibited, as it wouldn’t have a point. Jet pack would still break the game anyway for most of the same reasons anyway. I would rather just have a modified invasion loadout system from reach.

Well, when in space, yes you can jump and glide far, but a jet-pack would slow you down, if it can rotate 360 degrees.

That and it would allow you not to float off into the void of space and die because you didn’t have a jet pack.

A jetpack could help in a novel way, like you bale out of a dying ship and scoot around a little while in space before you die lol but actually it could help u slow down like the guy above posted

All this said, I don’t see it coming just yet, perhaps a remake of Reachs space vehicle combat.

Not slow down as much as navigate or change directions. Assuming the laws of physics apply to the next Halo game the only way you would be able to move in space w/o a jetpack would be by firing bullets or throwing grenades in the opposite direction you want to go.

A big difference between Star Wars space combat and Halo space combat is that when it comes to the larger-class ships engaging each other (like two frigates/cruisers/carriers), in Star Wars, they tend to park next to each other and bombard the -Yoink!- out of the other with the small-class ships zipping about. In Halo, there’s more movement and strategy going on.
I wouldn’t say that taking Battlefront’s space combat gameplay and applying Halo to it would be wrong, just not very accurate and canonical.
If space combat is ever implemented into the main series, I would suggest keeping gameplay similar to the segment in Halo: Reach, where you have to defend/attack a space station. Maybe have a progressive match where you eventually attack a larger ship or something.

A thruster pack would be better. It’s better balanced and would allow you to move in all directions except up. The jetpack just sends you up, and that’s why it doesn’t work as well as other abilities, not to mention that pressing a button to get Hight advantage on someone is exactly what’s wrong with this ability. Insides of ships would also have to be catered to it just like maps are now. It is an all around bad ability. Plus we have magnetic boots, so flying off into space would be difficult.

i like what your saying, but it would be really cool if players could pilot the flag ships.

> i like what your saying, but it would be really cool if players could pilot the flag ships.

Maybe ones as big as Savannah was, but not any bigger. Even Savannah is a stretch.

How would that work though? One person cant pilot a whole flagship. What does it add to the gametype as a whole? I would like to see ship defenses other than fighters be available.

I would personally like to see that the ships are MOVING constantly, the base should also be more larger and have aesthetics.
This Gametype could be called Orbital Slayer?

Perhaps each side would have a commander who is able to upgrade the ship capabilities and maybe ‘call in’ support like ordanance.

The team scores points by destroying each other’s ship and destroying enemy fighters.

The ship may also have weak spots(certain area which contains a shield, a comms array, the bridge, engines, life support?)

This ‘ordanance’ support could be maybe a Mac Blast, maybe AI support(more advanced ships with great AI), and maybe even more vehicles or boosts for the ship( overshield or speed boost).

The commander can also control the ship course and speed and shielding.

Has two frigate class ships supporting it(cannot board)

The ship can be destroyed on the inside.

There are fighter classes.

Dropship which can set your spawn, tank enemy fire, but have only one cannon which does moderate damage(pelicans and phantoms/spirits)

Anti Fighter- can destroy fighters with eas but are extremely vulnerable and have lower health.(Longswords and Seraphs?)

Main Fighter- all around balanced fighters(Orbital Banshee vs Broadsword)

Another gametype could be Ship Invasion?(Invasion in space to capture the opposing team’s ship.

Objective no.1
Open Doors from main hangar

Objective no.2
Secure Main Area

Objective no.3
Storm Bridge and Kill all personal
(everyone including the attacking team now has one life.)

Next up could be Planetary Slayer.

64 or more players

Battle in the Orbit, Sky, Atmosphere, and Land(limited to only one section of the world for many reasons)

Ships cannot move

Spawns may vary depending on population in Space or Land.

Any Space fighter can go onto the land.

Only the Space fighters may enter Space as well.

  • Slayer Variant

I think they should stick with the tradition ship-to-ship battle senario played out in space just like two pirate ships at sea. The two ships slowly pass eachother and blast cannons at their hulls whilst smaller parties board or defend the other ship, and broadswords, longswords, banshees, and serephs fly about and dog-fight. It’s fun. It may not be realistic, but it’s always fun.

“The pirits liefs is the lifes 4 meh. lolololol and a bottil ov win”

Yes I can agree with that. Bring space combat on, but keep it simple yet effective and fun. That goes for the whole game

Okay, this is starting to bother me, how come nobody is suggesting anything different from SW:BF2’s space battles?

I’ll start, how about a gamemode where all players start and are permanently in their ships? Similar to regular Slayer, or maybe even CTF, in that all players start with the same ship and have to navigate the map, gather powerups/upgrades, and be the first team to reach the score limit.

I would not say it was amazing it just felt like normal with a skybox change.
