Space battles

Hear me out on this. Halo: Infinite should add in space battles. Kind of like how the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 used to have space battles. I’d like to see halo allow the player to be able to operate all air and space craft from all halo games. It’d be better if the players could operate all halo vehicles from all of the games combined. That hasn’t yet been done, but I am looking forward to it possibly happening. Bring back the chopper and the falcon. That was one of my favorites in halo reach. I’ve always wanted to fly a pelican and a phantom, but we’ve been deprive of this.

Im not quite sure what chopper has to do with space battles, unless you meant sabre.

And this has been under discussion in various degrees & this seems to be more about the smaller scale space battles.

The problem would be the spawn balance for you can only spawn with one vehicle which they cant really change on the fly, so tho speak.

So either some smaller vehicles should be excluded from the space battles, like the banshees, to leave room for less seen in gameplay options like seraphs & pelicans.

Obviously there could be separate aircraft mode with falcons, hornets, banshees & such.

Now, how the spawning could be handled is something like longer lasting spawn timers for bigger spacecraft & shorter for weaker ones of which you could choose from with what you spawn with on the spawn menu.
Otherwise everyone could spawn small but could fly to some form of hangar to upgrade their vessel after meeting some form of requirement.

Now the vehicle pool maybe could be a bit more compact than the entirety of Halo universe vehicles to keep the mode & spawns less messy. There also are things like restrictions in development time, budget & platform hardware.
More variables, more testing.

Other things that have been discussed earlier are something like larger scale ship battles with carriers, frigates & such though even those could have separate modes for various sized ships.

Just give me my Broadsword again plx.

it would be hard to do especially when the lore surrounding who was superior in space usually is confusing. you have shortswords, longswords which are supposed to be lethal spacecraft but are quickly gunned down by seraphs and ship turrets, while sabres, which have shields, can basically easily destroy seraphs but are supposed to be a prototype of a starfighter, considered superior in fighting compared to longswords which are bombers, able to hold nukes. it would be cool to have a somewhat cinematic space battle missions like reach, but the lore surrounding it is just a mess and seems like the sabre is OP as hell.

If you really think about, if the UNSC had mass produced the Sabres, they probably would’ve destroyed the covenant in space.
broadsword is basically the Sabre and its said, unlike the sabre, it was used as strike aircraft by the UNSC able to travel into space. I have no doubt a broadsword has the same amount of power as a Sabre which makes it a mystery why they lost so many battles why these fighters are so OP.

I love the setpiece campaign missions featuring the Sabre and Longsword in Halo Reach and 4. I also played a ton of SWBF 2 at an age where I can look back and be incredibly nostalgic for the space battles featured in that game. All of this makes me really want to agree with you that this could be a phenomenal new large scale MP experience.

But, ultimately I don’t. I just think it’s way too big of a challenge to try to make Halo work in a paradigm like that. I’d also argue that even though the Battlefront 2 space battles were a ton of fun, they weren’t especially balanced or highly controlled affairs (and I think Halo at its best is a game that is all about controlled pacing and player awareness, neither of which are encouraged or showcased in the Space Battle format.)

I’m very open to the idea that I’m wrong about this, as if they nailed it, I’d almost never put the controller down. I think that they should probably just focus on getting the basic Halo formula right this time around instead of trying to add a whole new dimension on top of the basic formula that they’ve yet to completely nail with Halo 4-5.

I know bungie almost did that with reach but it got ultimately cut 343 should focus on nailing the core gameplay for infinite and maybe down the line as a update should they attempt to implement it to multiplayer

A really cool thing would be to introduce a section with space battles in Invasion gametype ( hope to see it in Infinite). For example:
match starts on Argent Moon facility; in the first section (on foot) dinos fight for the two territories and spartans defend them. In the second section, you fight in space (seraphs vs sabres) to take one of two different mini stations/satellites. Then in the mini station you just took, you try to obtain the data core (on foot again).

Space battles would be rad.

I honestly would just like to see all the vehicles ever in halo, operable by the player.

I kind of like your idea I think they should do space battles to with like 200 players with all the spaceships in space that you can fly and control them and even go into walk around inside the space ships to hide
pelican coming on to the infinite ship you get off the pelican and hide right away but space ships keep spawning it and make it where you can damage the ship like battlefield make it more interesting !!

If implemented correctly I would LOVE to see some badass space battles!

That would be absolutely incredible. I would love to see Seraphs, Phantoms, and Banshees flying in space and fighting against Sabers, Broadswords, and Pelicans.

In a franchise like Star Wars, yes, the Sabre is a superior craft (it’s been noted starfighters are one of the only areas that the UNSC is superior to the Covenant) and would win space battles, but this is the more grounded Halo. Starfighters don’t win battles against capital ships. The UNSC could have thousands of Sabres, and the Covenant capital ships would blow them to pieces before the fighters could penetrate their shields. The power difference is too great. Even if every Sabre carried a nuke, it would take multiple direct strikes to disable a Covenant ship from the outside, and their point defence system is capable of intercepting hundreds of missiles/fighters. It would take hundreds of Sabres, all carrying nukes, just to bring down on CCS.

Hell yeah. We could raid each others ships and stuff. It’d be amazing. Space CTF! Even better!

I would absolutely love to see space battles in Halo similar the original Battlefront 2. That being said, I doubt it will happen in Infinite as 343’s probably (hopefully) will be getting the core gameplay down. Infinite seems to be very ambitious, though we don’t know very much in terms of gameplay yet.

I would prefer them to

  • get the art style right - from the trailers, this seems to be pretty solid, a good mix of new and old. I particularly love the HW2 art style. - Better campaign - Whilst I did like aspects of Halo 5’s campaign such as Sanghelios and the multiple paths you had on levels to accomplish the levels, it was disappointing for me with regards to the story. - Classic-esque gameplay - We have not had a gameplay demo from 343 yet or seen any gameplay (I’m keeping fingers crossed for X019). It will be impossible to please everyone with infinite. My first Halo was Halo 2 on original Xbox and I didn’t get a 360 till around like 2013 so I kinda missed both 3 and Reach at their peak. However, whilst I think Halo 4 on a whole was a good game with a good campaign, as a Halo game the multiplayer was lacking. What I have noticed is whilst older fans who played the newer games have complaints (to say the least) but rarely have I noticed newer fans complaining about the classic gameplay. - A complete game - Whilst I do love Halo 5 as a whole in its current state, launch was a different story entirely. However, I would definitely be down for a campaign mission(s) set in space like Reach did or even have us fly a Pelican (like Halo 4 did though it didn’t take full use of the opportunity). Who knows, maybe Infinite’s sequel or a spin-off game where we don’t play as a Spartan or something like flight sim.
Edit: To add to the list above: Proper customisation not based on loot boxes haha

WyvernZu made a game mode that’s kinda like that. It’s pretty fun.

Long Night of Solace was a hell of a mission man. One of my favorites. But multiple space battles akin to Star Wars doesn’t really sound like Halo to me.

I think it would be cool to board a Covenant Cruiser and escape it as it is crumbling.

Definitely. There is plenty of room for innovation in the space battle department. I would just prefer that the campaign isn’t over saturated with those types of missions.

Hang on, are we even sure its the Covenant this time? Because last time I checked they didn’t have that weird energy shield thing that trapped the Pilot’s pelican.
