Space Battles. Make it happen.

I’ve been fascinated with games that make you pilot air vehicles. Halo: Reach has introduced this in a mission whereas Noble Six and Jorge battle Covenant threats with UNSC allies to defend a UNSC ship stationed just outside of planet Reach. It was considered one of my favourite missions due to it being something new and worthy to the Halo series.

With the next-generation Xbox One being released recently, Halo Xbox One could be capable of running large maps that could make space battles much more awesomer. UNSC Infinity fighting off smaller ships in the background, the glassing of a planet from multiple ships, or near the wreckage of a ship. It sets the mood for the player and gives the “your-not-the-one-doing-this-objective” feeling. Gamemodes such as all out deathmatch, team deathmatch, co-operation (Spartan Ops mission probably?) or Capture the Artifact (basically Capture the Flag but with King of the Hill elements.)

Maybe at the start of each map, a cinematic should play with a UNSC Spartan-IV or Covenant Elite entering a ship and blasting off into space before beginning the match.

Not in multiplayer.

In campaign, hell yes if they can work it into the story.

Multiplayer, I’d take some convincing. Tbf it doesn’t really fit, it’s a standalone thing…but that might not be so bad. It’d be a nice change in some regards.

I’m an avid pilot in many games including halo so if it’s done right…I’d enjoy it in multiplayer.

I hate how you always put Duck at the end of your posts. Not because i despise you or anything its just Duck was a guy i knew in High School. we weren’t exactly friends and everytime I see your posts it just reminds me oh him. I get a little twitch and a little angry but i have to remind myself that you aren’t him. At least, i hope you aren’t. Then it would be weird because I find many of your posts amusing.

ON TOPIC!

I would imagine that space combat in Halo would work like the MP in Star Fox. Bombs being replaced by nukes of course and at any given time players can just leap out and board a fool who flew too close and take their star ship. Being a huge fan of Sci Fi that i am it would be ludicrous if I (or anyone like me) were to be against space combat. (Unless of course they are the Sci Fi people who believe in exploration instead of domination. You guys get a huge free pass.)

Yes to multiplayer space-based battles, but uh…

“Capture The Artifact”? “Capture The Flag with King Of The Hill based elements”?

…You mean Extraction? See, this is why it shouldn’t be stuck in Team Throwdown. Nobody knows about it anymore…

LOL! It’s safe to say I’ve never had the nickname duck…so no, I’m not that guy. Please, don’t let him sour your image of us ducks, we’re actually quite cool respectable people by and large.

The Mighty Ducks for example.

I’m tired of voting yes in thread after thread on this subject since Halo 3. They know we want it, it’s been done in Reach, so let’s get on with it.

Having a feature like this for online multiplayer would be what halo needs to make it stand out from todays first person shooters. I say yes especially if it could seamlessly fly from the ground and into space.

Well yes of course this would work, most people tend to compare the idea to Star Wars Battlefront’s space battles since people do like to mention often about the idea of big Halo battles while trying to capture bases.

only if im able to duel wield pillar of autumns

I wouldn’t mind Halo taking a page from Star Wars: Battlefront II on this matter…

A Space Battle in MM. Now that would be cool. BTB UNSC Sabre’s v.s Covie Banshees. However, if that were to happen, Halo 5 would have to be 64-players in MM. That way the map would be big enough to support it.

No.

At best it’s going to closely resemble the space battle segment from LNoS in Reach. Sure there could be some improvements and additions on top of that but expecting anything more would be silly.

I say no because when you strip it down the bare basics, all space combat does is restrict player choice, options, and movement just for a slap of paint on the player and the background.

Because of the restricted and simplistic nature of the gametype, player enthusiasm and excitement would quickly diminish over time.

I can’t imagine why anybody would be against an extra playlist for Space Battles. It was done well in Reach and could easily be adjusted for ‘Space Slayer’ 4v4 games. Just don’t add objective stuff like CTF (though that idea sounds compelling, honestly). Just keep it Space Slayer and you have a nice extra for people in the game.

Just going to add something I though might be kinda cool. What if the type of space battle determined what fighters you used? For example, an orbital defence battle would give you the SS-1000 Sabre (I’m leaving the Y out since i think that just refers to its prototype status), while a ship-to-ship battle would give you F-41 Broadswords.

An Invasion mission type could be escorting Pelicans or Longswords carrying boarding teams or on a bombing run.

Yes definitely, I say make it a particular playlist. There could be loadouts including pelican, phantom, whatever promethian ship, etc.

> Yes definitely, I say make it a particular playlist. There could totally NOT be loadouts, too.

Fixed it.

Didn’t need fixing. Don’t start. Please.

Well, maybe yours would. I like space battles, and 3D battles in general. In ODST I tended to go after more Banshees while flying the Falcon than I really needed to (but they just kept coming!). Point is, fun stuff never gets old.

How about three people for every space vehicle? Have it one driver and two gunners. Also have like a multi team based game type for slayer or LTS
