I’m just gonna create a hypothetical situation here and I’d be interested to see everyone’s answers.
Okay, so E3 comes around and we finally get to 343i’s panel where they plan to start releasing info on H5. Beamish O Connor comes out on the center stage with his trusty mop alongside him and starts speaking.
“I’m afraid we have some bad news everyone, we are running low on budget and development time and can’t realistically complete the game before it’s launch. We also can’t delay the game because of $ reasons so instead we’re going to ask you, our community on what you want to see in the final game. You can choose from either having a great lengthy singleplayer only Campaign, or you can Have Matchmaking along with Customs, forge and theater. We are sorry we could not deliver this game as originally intended, but we hope you choose wisely as we will not be releasing the next Main story or multiplayer for another 3 years.”
Which would you choose? I know lots of us go by the “Come for the campaign, stay for the multiplayer” idea, but what I you couldn’t have both? Would you rather learn the next chapter in the Master Chiefs epic saga now and then have to wait 3 more years before you got multiplayer? Or would you rather miss out on the story and have the full suite of Matchmaking, Customs, Forge and Theater to play with for the next 3 years?
Personally, I’m torn 50-50, I have know idea which I would pick. For me this is such a hard decision to make.
Halo current style of campaign is not worth buying only renting. So I want multi player instead. If halo was more of a rpg like mass effect I buy it for single player.

So you want to turn Halo SP to a bad game in order to buy it? No thank you dude, it’s an FPS not a bad RPG…
always Campaign!!
Hell… I would love to have a Halo game like Mass Effect or Fallout or Stalker to travel trough a huge openworld planet as Master Chief or as my very own selfmade charakter.

Campaign was always the driving force for multiplayer. I don’t understand how some die hard Halo fans don’t even play for the story, Halo’s core was and always will be in its solid lore and fun gameplay.

Mass effect was a great game all the way up to the last 15 minutes.
I think I’m gonna have to go with the multiplayer side because of longevity. Although I’d hate to miss out on the story the campaign would only last about a month for me while the multiplayer would keep me on at least a year.
when i pay for a game i expect to be able to play it whenever i want regardless of the state of the online population. The $60 is for the game not the privilege to play it should it’s servers be up. MP is extra that’s why we pay gold for it.
Campaign, they could make a really cool, potentially, open world campaign with different characters or a character of your own. But now the Halo Games’ focus is the multiplayer.
Campaign. I just dabble in multiplayer every now and then, so it wouldn’t exactly break my heart if it had to be cut. On the other side, if it was pure multiplayer and no campaign, I wouldn’t buy it, ever.
