Sp.Charge/Melee is a legit tactic in Halo now...

I’m pretty sure the devs didn’t intend for Halo’s gameplay to devolve into this, but a year and a half later, sprint-spartan charge into an AR or Melee, is now a legit tactic in Halo.

That, coupled with the ridiculous amount of lunge on melees, Halo has devolved into a gameplay style that doesn’t include any skill to aiming and shooting. We’ve never seen this many Melee or AR kills show up as a tool of destruction ever before. People getting 10+ melee kills as their tool of destruction?! I’d be impressed as hell in past titles. Sadly, this a natural occurrence in Halo 5. The fact that this is a feasible tactic, is just not a good addition to Halo’s gameplay.

Yes, in the past, I suppose we could attempt such a tactic, but it was certainly nothing to be confident about, and it wasn’t something that players used as a PRIMARY method of their offense due to the lack of a very powerful, default-loadout AR/smg and sprint (minus reach/4, although this tactic never turned up as a primary method of offense for many reasons).

In the past it was more of a, “Oh I’m in close quarters, I could probably land a melee.”

Now, it’s turned into, “I’m going to go full sprint and easily get myself into melee range for an easy AR-melee or spartan charge-AR. If they have a pistol out, they better perfect me, or else they should just set the controller down.”

This is a part of Halo’s new gameplay elements that need to be toned down or outright removed in the future. This can be done by removal of sprint, minimal to no melee lunge, weaker AR, no thrust, and/or no spartan charge. You could probably just alter one of these elements and Halo 5’s gameplay would’ve benefited from it. Hopefully this gets addressed in Halo 6.

I bet you love the Battle Rifle.

I actually used to melee kill a lot in Halo 3, especially in Halo Reach and now in Halo 5. The average amount of meleeing for me hasn’t really changed. That s just my playstyle; up-close and personal!

The melee lunge isn’t even that much. In fact, I think it was reduced, or at least it feels reduced now.

When was the last time you played? You do know that there’s am HCS playlist now, right? No autos…

Try defending against the spartan charge when you play from Australia I get hit through walls around corners and from so far away it’s un dodgeable with our lag it’s the single biggest frustration I have with the game

I second this. Happened to me a lot in close quarters maps and I also live in Australia :australia:.

I love just sprinting around SCing and then finish them of it’s a really really good tactic.

Nah I love the Ce Pistol

Spartan Charge was cool for the first few weeks, then it just got annoying. It’s still satisfying to ram someone down from behind (especially if they were sniping or something) or actually manage to land the finishing blow on a vehicle with it - or knock said vehicle over then kill the occupants - but the cons outweigh the benefits of the mechanic IMO, at least the way it’s implemented. It’s a great feeling when someone spartan charges me then fails to kill me though, or they attempt the charge but I shotgun them down mid-lunge. evil grin emoticon

Don’t forget the lack of ANY cooldown so you can just shoot immediately for the instakill and run around corners blind and just hit the “panic button…” lol, so OP!!

SC is still fun for me. I tend to use a BR or DMR and SMG. Most of the times I’m SCing into a head shot and to me that really doesn’t seem all that different from normal melee into head shot from past games. I find it funny how sooo many people rely on it as if it a guaranteed kill. I’d say I’ve killed over 80% the people that have tried hit me with and missed and over half the ones that hit me I’ve killed with a normal melee and a head shot. Using it to overturn a Warthogs and ghosts is also really fun. I enjoy feeling powerful as a Spartan.

It’s like that other annoying armor lock ability (edit for clarity: in one scenario) where you armor lock for only a second when an enemy goes to melee you and then come out of it and melee them. Hopefully, it goes away like armor lock did.

Armor lock was a literal Gameplay pause button. Spartan Charge is nothing like that.

I’m only pointing out the similarities in that they’re both annoying abilties that can give a person a melee advantage.

Except Spartan charge is something everyone has, is completely avoidable, and really doesn’t give you an advantage.

Are you really trying to make an argument/debate over armor lock and spartan charge from my passing comment that wasn’t meant to be taken any more than that? I already know all the points you’re trying to make, but I’m sure most people on here will get the gist of what I was talking about despite the flaws in my example that you’re trying to nitpick at. Good day.

Edit: I added to my original post so some people don’t get confused about what I was talking about.

The only time Spartan Charge is avoidable is if the user absolutely sucks or if you move unnaturally fast (Teleporter, man cannons, etc.)

It can very much give you an advantage in starting an engagement. You have a melee in that the opponent cannot always counter (and even less possible given the knockback), and their attempt to melee you would only put them further behind because you can shoot them during their melee cooldown. It only doesn’t give you an advantage if you’re already seen and shot at before you Spartan Charge to begin with.

When it comes to spartan charge it certainly doesn’t belong in ranked play IMO. But should it be here to stay they really need to make it so you can’t charge some one while being shot. You shouldn’t get what essentially is a get out of jail free card for being late on the trigger.

What’s that supposed to mean? You say that as if it’s a bad thing… lol

Advocating that trash weapon under any circumstance is a bad thing. DMR or get out.

I’ve been advocating for decreased melee lunge range for ages, it’s been awful since after the beta, and back then, you could bait people into a melee and just walk backwards to avoid it. Right now, if someone melees and you are within the lunge range, even thruster does nothing; they will teleport to you. It’s like 343 put child-lock on close combat and it sucks.

Oh and Spartan Charge is just too easy to spam, I feel like trash whenever I use it, but you can’t help it when you have less than a second to react.

Nerf lunge, kill charge.
