I’m pretty sure the devs didn’t intend for Halo’s gameplay to devolve into this, but a year and a half later, sprint-spartan charge into an AR or Melee, is now a legit tactic in Halo.
That, coupled with the ridiculous amount of lunge on melees, Halo has devolved into a gameplay style that doesn’t include any skill to aiming and shooting. We’ve never seen this many Melee or AR kills show up as a tool of destruction ever before. People getting 10+ melee kills as their tool of destruction?! I’d be impressed as hell in past titles. Sadly, this a natural occurrence in Halo 5. The fact that this is a feasible tactic, is just not a good addition to Halo’s gameplay.
Yes, in the past, I suppose we could attempt such a tactic, but it was certainly nothing to be confident about, and it wasn’t something that players used as a PRIMARY method of their offense due to the lack of a very powerful, default-loadout AR/smg and sprint (minus reach/4, although this tactic never turned up as a primary method of offense for many reasons).
In the past it was more of a, “Oh I’m in close quarters, I could probably land a melee.”
Now, it’s turned into, “I’m going to go full sprint and easily get myself into melee range for an easy AR-melee or spartan charge-AR. If they have a pistol out, they better perfect me, or else they should just set the controller down.”
This is a part of Halo’s new gameplay elements that need to be toned down or outright removed in the future. This can be done by removal of sprint, minimal to no melee lunge, weaker AR, no thrust, and/or no spartan charge. You could probably just alter one of these elements and Halo 5’s gameplay would’ve benefited from it. Hopefully this gets addressed in Halo 6.
