There will be a balanced weapon sandbox this time around. Getting tired of spawning with a BR, and having that be the best gun. There is already a thread for discussing this, why make a new one?
im good spawning with an smg or ar.
preferably an smg
lower range on spawn weapons translate to more map movement. since an smg will /should forever lose to a br at mid range i say its a viable spawn weapon. you should have to search for better guns on map.
the AR is a viable option since its range also makes it so people have to move more and it being a viable mid range weapon this time makes it more versitile. it still loses to the br at mid so there is still reason to pick it up.
ps. i think we should have the req system from warzone in btb my reasoning is that loadouts are good for btb since h4 is nearly always chosen for btb in the mcc.

We’ve already had many Halo games with BR/DMR starts (Halo 2, 3, and Reach). I’m sick of the same old starts, same old 3-burst song and strafe dance. It’s about time this changed and we see more variety in the weapons wielded by players.

Leave it alone, OP. A lot of people are tired of the same stuff every time, myself included. It’ll be refreshing to have a Halo game where I have a starting weapon that isn’t a BR, but is still a competent weapon. The reason BR starts were a must in the older games was because all of the other weapons were terrible, which isn’t the case anymore.
If this were a thread on any Halo title that wasn’t Halo 5 I’d agree with this. Every other title has this problem where almost none of the weapons in the sandbox can actually kill in less than one clip. Halo 5 on the other hand has extremely well balanced weapon play. Every weapon is a viable option at certain ranges. You wouldn’t be able to beat a Battle Rifle with an Assault Rifle at mid-range, but if you close the gap the Assault Rifle stands a far better chance.
About the whole you need a Battle Rifle or Designated Marksman Rifle to take down armament problem you seem to have. In Halo 5’s new game-mode Warzone you will not have players spawning with power vehicles or power weapons straight out of the gate or even 5 minutes into the game. The basic Battle Rifle is also a card that is almost always available for requisition during a match, so if there are Banshees flying around harassing your team it will more then likely be shot down.
Now onto Arena Big Team Battle, if memory serves me right and it almost always does, this game mode will be traditional Halo play. You will not call in ordinance or have a requisition system in place to gain an upper hand in a match. This is standard team coordination with weapon and map control. This mode will probably feature several game-types. Them being; Capture the Flag, Assault, and Slayer (this is purely my own speculation so don’t go saying “I heard this and this from such and such” to someone) The facts are it will be 8v8, and traditional Arena multiplayer.
With the way the current Halo sandbox is balanced for Halo 5 I can say with full confidence that every weapon serves a purpose and can actually sway the outcome of a fight depending on how effective it is at different ranges. So if Halo 5 Big Team Battle Slayer is assault rifle, pistol spawns I’m okay with that because they actually function as lethal weapons.
This happened with h2 and h3.
The problem is pre launch the forums are pretty much %100 filled with fanboys. An echo chamber is created and dumb decisions like this are made. Then the game launches, people complain and its reversed.

This is only true at low levels. The more skilled the players, the less movement will occur in auto starts. If a few players have ranged weapons and everyone else has short ranged weapons those players will have to play a very slow, tedious, methodical playstyle just to be able to find a weappn that will allow them to move around and compete.
AR start is way better as you get a whole extra tier of weapons to fight over.

FTFY.
Regardless of how differently the weapons are balanced, the biggest point still stands that when everyone spawns with close-mid ranged weaponry, there will always be better weapons on the map that can effectively control spawns if a team coordinates to control those superior ranged weapons. Slapping a scope on an AR, or giving everyone a bunch of Armor/Spartan Abilities on spawn isn’t going to prevent that. Halo’s always been about fighting for superior weapons on the map, but those superior weapons are power weapons, not standard rifles. 343 could try changing it to work better, while completely changing Halo’s core gameplay in the process, or they could just accept the fact that their “vision” doesn’t translate well enough to Halo’s core as classic gameplay does.
Although that being said, if the vehicle health system doesn’t drop Reach/4’s system, it won’t matter what you spawn with in BTB, because even the friggin pistol will be able to wreck an entire Warthog. No one is going to try shooting the driver out of a moving vehicle with an AR or pistol when they could just hit the vehicle itself for the easy double/triple kill that terribad system provides.
I and many others exclusively play BTB and playing that playlist with a SMG or AR, with its huge gaps in distance, is really foolish. Can I engage an opponent with a SMG or gun that’s not a BR or preferably a DMR, the answer is no. So have SMG starts in your 4v4 maps but the large scale of BTB maps require a DMR start. When I’d look at the player counts of people in BTB vs any 4v4 playlist, BTB dominated in player count. This is why BTB, the most popular playlist according the player counts I’d observe, needs DMR and BR starts. Cater to who has the most players- that was and will be BTB again.

You can just spawn with a precision weapon without too much hassle in Warzone.
As for BTB, no one really knows any specifics right now but BR starts could work its way in there if there’s a glaring issue with AR starts.

I can guarantee there will be unless there’s DMR and BR guns laying all over the map.
There’s this thing called power weapons and vehicle on vehicle combat. Sorry but Br/DMR starts are a bad idea for BTB. We might as well spawn with plasma pistols at start instead of the pistol…
I dont think this poll is turning out the way the OP wanted
im fine with it either way whether i spawn with a AR or BR i still do good
Depending on the Buffs to the Pistol, it may not be a problem. I don’t care what I spawn with as long as I can effectively defend myself.
That said it is very possible the Pistol may prove to be subpar upon release so I don’t have an issue spawning with the BR in BTB, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we did right off the bat while the 4v4 Arena stays Pistol/AR.

The revisionist history is real. Issues in BTB have never been the result of spawning with precision weapons, I can’t think of a Halo game where non-precision weapons starts worked well in BTB or otherwise.
BR starts, sure. DMR starts, no. Also very fine with starting with an AR, since it’ll actually force people to move around the map.

They don’t require a BR or DMR start. People play with ARs in BTB all the time. Just because you can’t engage someone from across the map doesn’t mean you can’t engage them at all. Learn to close the gap or just find a ranged weapon somewhere on the map.
