So anyone notice a lot of the sound design for the alien stuff in halo 4 is rather generic sci fi? Like real bleep bloop stuff.
The ghost sounds like a fairground ride to me, and the new video today reveals the beam rifles sound effects to be genuine LAZORZ PEW PEW PEW stuff. I mean what the hell?
Its strange because all the human stuff sounds so badass.
Not a hater thread, ill get over it whatever happens. My preorder remains.
I think theres too much click clack sound in the human weapons, i will have to watch the covenant weapon video again to get a listen, but we will all get use to them. Also i think they should give about 10 seconds for each weapon in the videos so we can get a proper look and listen.
It’s something 343 is doing that is inferior to Bungie. There are weird hisses and clanks that sound unimpressive, but it’s something that I can get over.
I agree somewhat with the OP. I personally think that pretty much all the covenant weapons sound weak(the reach and anniversary covie weapons sound better than halo 4s) and inferior to their unsc counterparts. I don’t see me using them much in halo 4. I think personally the covenant weapons are going to die off in the reclaimer trilogy and slowly get replaced by forerunner weapons(IMO).
The only sounds I like so far are the AR, BR and DMR and Carbine. The Forunner weapons sound ok and I like the sound of the Rail Gun.
Not a fan of anything else. I thought it was my computer but once I played the vids on My xbox with my surround sound on I still was not impressed. Actually I’m kinda sad.
Any Halo fan can close their eyes and hear sounds from any Halo game and easily recognize it. Unfortunately for Halo 4 that feeling has been lost.
Even the vehicles are messed up in my opinion. The Warthog sound like a Honda CRX stuck in 2nd gear. Sounds like they went into a kitchen and banged pots around to capture their sound effects.
I’m still petty excited about the game but they should of just took from Halo CE Anniversary cause everything in that game sounds BOSS!

I’m pretty sure they did, according to Nexy’s video with the updated kill times.

No, BR kills in an estimated 1.85 seconds while the DMR kills in about 1.4 seconds. The Carbine kills in about 1.63 seconds and the light rifle kills in 1.8 seconds unscoped(1.3 inscope). This is all best guess at the moment accurate figures will probably be figured out whn the game drops.
It feels as though 343 has focused more on the sounds of the armour and such instead of the actual weapon or the things being fired from it. The sword and hammer practically have no sounds of their own so all you can hear is the clank of the armour. The plasma pistol sounds more like a magnum than something that fires plasma.
It’s like they’ve focused so much on making the armour sound clanky and tank-like that they have forgotten to make some of the weapons sound unique and impressive in their own ways.
The UNSC weapons aren’t too bad but they sound rather weak. 343 should have taken more hints and inspiration from the excellent gun sounds of CEA.
I’m actually starting to get quite worried about the sound design in general, not just the covie weapons. All the gameplay videos I’ve seen so far, all the audio, not just the guns, sounds way overprocessed. Like it’s beeing played on a cheap 80’s boombox with the bass cranked up in an echo chamber, or like they just discovered the “amphitheatre” post-processing setting on their new amplifier and think it makes everything sound awesome.
Hopefully it’s just a problem with how the audio in the trailers was processed, or it’s being tightened up before release. But so far it all sounds way too “overdone”.
